Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park - A Serene Escape with Stunning Views
Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park is a true gem that offers a breathtaking view of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, which connects Mount Pleasant to Charleston, South Carolina. This park is not just about the stunning bridge views that draw visitors in but also offers several unique features that make it a must-visit destination.
Upon entering the park, you're greeted by a series of benches that overlook serene lagoons and swampland, providing a quieter, more reflective atmosphere away from the main viewing areas. The park is dotted with historical signs and podiums, each offering fascinating information about various dedications, sunken ships, and the branches of government that serve the Mount Pleasant community. It's both an educational and peaceful experience, making it perfect for history buffs and those seeking tranquility alike.
The amenities at the park are top-notch. There are clean and well-maintained restrooms and small shops where you can pick up local Mount Pleasant goods. The abundance of picnic tables and open spaces makes it an ideal spot for families to gather, play games, or enjoy a meal together.
I visited the park on a Friday evening around 7 PM and was pleasantly surprised by the calm and spacious atmosphere. Despite my expectation of it being busy, there was plenty of room on the extra-wide walking path under the bridge, allowing for a leisurely and uncrowded stroll. As you walk further out towards the end of the pier, it becomes increasingly peaceful, with the gentle sound of the ocean current and a cool breeze providing a perfect setting for relaxation.
This park is also an excellent spot to catch a spectacular sunset. As a member of a small group called Sunset Around the World, I visited specifically to capture a sunset photo for our audience, and the view did not disappoint. The quiet end of the pier provided the perfect vantage point to witness the sun dipping below the horizon, casting a beautiful glow over the water.
Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park is a wonderful destination for anyone looking to enjoy scenic views, learn a bit of local history, or simply unwind in a peaceful setting. It's a place I'll definitely return to for its beauty, tranquility, and the memorable experiences it offers.

Read moreI am in town on a small tour and was looking for a park to spend some time in before my gig this evening.
The park here is really well kept. The kids seemed to be having a blast and there are tables and benches for parents to rest on while the kids play.
The Sweetgrass Pavillion ladies were very friendly and informative about the baskets they were weaving and the detail in their work was really nice. One of the ladies spoke with me about the technique and materials used to make the baskets, an art form handed down from generations of weaving which she learned from her grandmother.
The walk to the end of the pier and back was beautiful. The day I was in town it was overcast so it was not very busy. A few fisherman lines the pier as I walked to the end.
There are many spots to sit with tables or benches and even some bench swings along the walk.
At the end of the pier and even just past the cafe you can see the aircraft carrier that is part of the maritime museum right down the road from here. I visited that the last time I was in town and enjoyed it too.
The bathroom by the Sweetgrass Pavillion was very clean and well kept. Someone mentioned the fountains not working but they were when I was here.
There is a war memorial here as well with a fountain and statue. A bird was bathing in the fountain whike I was taking in the sites here and reading the dedications on the walls.
Noise wise, you can hear the traffic overhead crossing the bridge but I guess it just did not bother me.
This park and the pier h ab e my full appreciation. Being on the road and having checked out at 11am with no real spot to light, I was really happy to find this spot, finish up a book I was reading...
Read moreI took my Nanny kids to the shaded playground on a beautiful sunny day. The sea breeze kept the bugs and the humidity down. The kids are 11 and 3 year-old boys. Time went by fast, as they had so much fun on the play equipment. There are two separate areas, one for under 5 and one for 5 and up. The little guy had fun on the toddler equipment, but he really wanted to challenge himself and keep up with his brother. The big-kid side did challenge him, but with his brother guiding him (they got along!!) he got a confidence boost when he mastered the apparatus. The big brother also got a boost from teaching his little buddy how to bravely push past his fears and accomplish something he didn't think he could do. Win-win!! We ended the day with soft-serve from the shop and a walk on the pier. Excellent place to take the family or meet up for a playdate. Securely fenced in, handicapped accessible equipment, recycled rubber playground flooring, and plenty of benches for nursing moms, parents & grandparents, or worn out...
