This is a difficult experience to rate, due to some very unusual circumstances. When I pulled up with my partner and my 6-year-old daughter, there were 3 Mountain View police vehicles on the road outside the hotel. There were 3 more in the parking lot as we turned in. The office was locked, but the staff opened up for us to check in. We were told that there was a domestic issue with some long-term residents in the complex and that the police were talking to one of the participants. This was apparently not the first incident with them. We were told the response (which included a K-9 unit) was typical for the police.
The room we were given (which was the only room with the 2 beds we required) was, incidentally, 2 doors down from where the police were deployed. After confirming with an officer that the situation was safe, he asked that we give them a few minutes to wrap up. 30 went by. The hotel staff was friendly and showed me an alternate way to the room, which involved walking over an unlit narrow dirt path between the building and the wall of the complex.
A firetruck and ambulance showed up as well, as the disturbance had now seemed to become a medical issue. We were finally escorted by an officer to our room. Of the 2 beds, one was obviously slept in and unclean and there were used towels on the counter. I went back to the front desk and the staff came with me to the room and was surprised to find that it had not been cleaned. He left to see what options were available. After a few minutes we were offered 2 rooms (one for free) to accommodate us. We declined and were instead provided a full refund without fees.
The good: -The location is very convenient -The front desk staff really was quite helpful and very friendly -Had the room been clean, it would have been perfectly adequate, albeit a bit dated -The police officers on the scene were very professional. Once the situation was explained to us, we did feel comfortable staying.
The bad: -As other reviewers have pointed out, the Google listing is out-of-date and there is no longer a pool (this was a big one for my daughter) -There certainly seems to be a housekeeping disconnect where the staff is unaware of the status of rooms -Allowing long-term residents to stay who have had prior incidents requiring a police response is (to me) a baffling choice. I'm sure there are other factors involved in the decision, but pulling up to that was a horrible first impression and immediately made us question our safety.
Overall: If we had arrived at probably any other time and been given a clean room, I would have little to say aside from the pool not being as expected. You can try your luck if on a budget and hope for a better experience and, honestly, I suspect you would have one. Front desk service is 5/5. the 3/5 rating is reflective of the failure of housekeeping. The 3 stars off for the room are purely for...
Read moreFor a facility in the Wyndham/Ramada chain, this one left much to be desired!||Upon arrival, the lobby is locked so you handle check-in thru a small plexiglass window with small holes to talk and hear thru and a slot at the bottom from credit card/ID, paper, etc. ||The clerk on duty couldn’t find my two night reservation and had to refer to the confirmation paper I had printed out. He finally found the info after rummaging thru desk drawers.||The parking spaces are small so if you’re driving a pickup or larger car, you likely won’t be parking close to your room. We had room 126 and the spaces outside could only fit compacts.||The room key gave us fits each time we used it over the two days we stayed. ||Once inside, the room was small for a king. It had basically no storage space for clothing nor a suitcase stand. The smoke alarm was missing and the bathroom door handle was not much from being off, very loose.||The “high speed” WiFi was anything but and often disconnected. ||The tv remote didn’t work so I took it back to the office where the clerk left and borrowed one from another room. A few times the cable just stopped working and the tv went dark so we just turned it off.||There is no pool on the property and the gym is a small room with a bicycle and treadmill.||There is no breakfast area either despite the pictures on booking websites. Your breakfast is in a paper bag and has to be picked up at the lobby and you get it from the clerk. You can choose one of five frozen entrees including burritos, breakfast croissants and a couple others. Inside the bag was a small bottle of water and orange juice, a banana and a snack bag of cookies.||If you’re not expecting much from a hotel, you’ll be ok with this facility. If you are, maybe consider booking another hotel/motel in the area.||The one benefit I saw from booking this motel was its close proximity to the Shoreline Amphitheater which is about a 8-10 minute drive. ||There is also a bbq restaurant nearby called “Wagon Wheel” and it’s really good with...
Read moreThis place is a bit... jarring. It's got that roadside motel feel, which for me, isn't a good thing. The rooms are pretty cramped. The place has everything you theoretically need, and the price is unbeatable, but being locked out of the main lobby and having these dingy little rooms that open to the outside left me feeling displaced. (Tiny room + locked lobby = nowhere to hang out.) I'm leaving it for a hotel I can go chill out in the lobby of and drink coffee.
There's a good number of amenities, but no way to get coffee outside of their two-hour breakfast window (7a-9a), which as of now, is limited to a fridge of wrapped breakfast sandwiches you can microwave in your room or in the communal nuke. There are no eggs, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, waffles, or anything you'd see at most continental breakfasts. I forgot this wasn't standard for a bit. There are coffee pots in the rooms, but it's a far cry from a Keurig with breakfast blend pods handy. There are also fridges in the rooms, so theoretically everything you need. My only other complaint is that the air conditioner can't be set to always run the fan (to drown out the ambient traffic noises from the highway outside) without disabling the heating and cooling. I just want to keep the room low-humidity with white noise and circulating air... but whatever. The showers are dingy and feature dust and dead bugs in the obscured glass windowsill, single shower head with no detachable sprayer, but on the plus side, they have shampoo, body wash, and conditioner dispensers baked into the shower wall. These are good quality and a welcome surprise; I prefer these to the little disposable bottles (though some might be bothered by how hermetic or hygienic it is not). The WiFi was fine, the furniture was of good quality with baked-in power and USB.
Me, I won't be back. But I'm not upset; the staff treated me well and there was no cancellation fee for leaving...
