A friend had this place at work event, and recommended it, so stopped in to try it out. Stopped in around 5 so it wasn't very busy. Since it was our first time we asked what was popular and the guy at the desk told us brisket and ribs. My sister decided to try the gaucho sandwich with brisket. I decided to try burnt ends, my kid wanted a hot dog, and my friend decided on baked potato with burnt ends and a soda. This place has Stubborn soda. I have never tried and my friend normally doesn't order soda so I knew it must have been good so we all got sodas. When I got to the fountain machine I saw Cola, diet cola, citrus hibiscus orange, classic root beer, agave vanilla cream, black cherry tarragon, and pineapple cream soda. Now that's what I call artisan soda! The pineapple cream soda caught my eye so I decided to try that, OMG so good. My friend got black cherry and that was also pretty good. My sister had taken my kid to bathroom while I was ordering so i let them get their own soda but I let them try mine first and they both got the pineapple soda too. The baked potato was huge. The gaucho sandwich with brisket was really flavorful. The burnt ends was my least favorite, it was a little tough so I probably wouldn't order that again. But I would definitely get the brisket again. Overall food was good, staff was friendly, and soda was great.

Uniqueness: Classic BBQ spot, but nothing particularly innovative Wait Time: [x][x][x][x][x] (Instant seating, felt more like a takeout spot) Food Quality: [x][x][x][ ][ ] Service: [x][x][x][x][ ] Setting: [x][x][x][ ][ ] Cost: [x][x][x][x][ ] Came in expecting some solid BBQ, and while the brisket had a nice smoky flavor, the biggest letdown was that everything was cold. It really took away from the experience—BBQ should be fresh, hot, and juicy, not feel like it’s been sitting around. Service was friendly, but with hardly anyone in the restaurant and food coming out quickly, it was clear this place operates more like a takeout spot. The setting was basic, nothing special, and not really a place where you’d want to hang out for long. For the price, I expected better execution. If they focused on serving food hot and fresh, it could be a solid go-to, but as it stands, it’s hard to justify coming back.

I got the burnt ends, and the brisket. Apparently 7 ounces of each but it felt like a lot less. Burnt ends (6/10): I was extremely pleased when I saw this on the menu because you know a bbq establishment is legit when they have burnt ends on the menu. But burnt ends drenched in bbq sauce??? That’s heresy! The saccharine sweetness of the sauce masked whatever minuscule smoke had seeped into the meat. Brisket (6/10): The brisket was cooked really well. Fell apart in my mouth. But as alluded to before I couldn’t really taste much smokiness. There isn’t much of a smoke ring too. It’s only vaguely there on one of the sides. The seasoning was sub par. If I’d never been to Texas, I’d give this spot 4 stars. But having lived in Texas for the last couple of years I’d say this is a solid 3. In Texas you can smell a bbq spot from across the block! This isn’t there, at least not yet. —— @eddythefoodcritic

I am totally shocked by the ratings of this place. As someone who grew up on northern-style BBQ, this is extremely disappointing

I got the tri-tip, coleslaw and a tea and that was just over $22 after tax. The sandwich was absolutely pitiful. It was no bigger than 3" x 6" and was literally just tri-tip on bread. Nothing else. Just bread and three slices of meat.

The tri-tip was hardly seasoned and thus bland. You absolutely had to dowse it in the BBQ sauce provided at the tables to get any flavor. It was cooked well, but not excellent. It wasn't dry, but also not juicy moist.

The coleslaw was about 1 cups worth and was probably the cheapest, blandest coleslaw I have ever had. I'm pretty sure it was just cubed green cabbage and mayo. No red cabbage, no carrots, no onions. I couldn't even get any taste of vinegar or sugar. It was so awfully bland.

I'm not a big person. I weigh 150lbs, and I didn't even leave full. For a $22 meal, this was terrible. Maybe if it was $12 I'd give this a 4 star, but this is literally a rip-off for ever-so-slightly slightly above average BBQ.

Also, the parking is terrible. It has like 6 parking spots in front of the restaurant, so if you go at prime time, you'll have to...

This place has the best BBQ I've had in the bay since I moved here from Texas 5 years ago. The meats are tender and delicious. The brisket was moist and juicy, basically falls apart and seasoned just right. And ribs had just the right flavor and texture. Tacos were great too with nice pico. I gotta say the sides were a bit, um, off. The mac and cheese was like garlic or fettuccine or something. Not good old fashioned yellow mac. It was a weird pairing for traditional BBQ. The beans were a bit over seasoned with chili powder. Good garlic bread. Craft sodas and good craft beer selection. Counter service staff was relatively uninterested in, well, doing counter service. Which is a shame because a positive attitude would really brighten up the place. But omg, the meats. Just get the meats and you'll be happy. It is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the extra five minutes from Castro. The couple times I've been here, it has been maybe two other tables with people. It makes me sad because I want to keep coming here. So rustle up all your peops and bring them down to the Wagon Wheel, I wanna see a line at this place next time! I'll be willing to wait.

Great bbq , with a...
