Very Disappointed. You would think a campground that you had spent thousand$$$ with over the past few years wouldn't be looking to ding you $100 on a minor parking violation on a first offense! Campground security should be looking to mitigate issues, not create them. We camped oceanfront across from the basketball courts in June 2023. The sites are tight throughout the campground and by the time we leveled our motorhome and parked the golf cart, we couldn't park our rental car without interfering with the neighbor. Therefore, we parked across the street by the playground where there were marked spots for vehicles. The only sign appeared to be aimed at parking golf carts overnight there (see attached photo). Midweek, we awoke to find a parking ticket on the car for $100! When we spoke to management, they contacted security which stated they had left two warnings. If they did, either they were removed or the high winds blew them off overnight. All I know is waking up to find a $100 parking ticket for a minor violation. I also had witnesses from neighboring campsites that no previous warnings were on the car. None of that seemed to matter to Lakewood. Keep in mind, our camp was 20 feet away and the site # was on the dash of the car. They could have simply walked 20 feet across the street to notify us or leave a note on our door.
Later that week, we had family coming to visit and use the waterpark with us. We were told at check-in that we would get seven pool wristbands in our packet. We only had four. When we called management about it, they said we should have notified them at check-in. Fortunately on this one, the girl at the front desk corrected the problem and issued the missing wristbands. At that point, instead of waiving the parking ticket, they offered to cut it in half. If we didn't pay, they wouldn't sell us any further items. One other inconvenience was bathhouse 5 near us had been remodeled but the shower drains were all stopped up and the facility was closed all week. We've stayed in many campgrounds during the years but have never been given a parking ticket. And for $100! So in the end we paid the fine and headed back to West Virginia where I made note of this story on the WV Campers FB page which created a lot of buzz. As a business owner, I live by the motto "the customer is always right." Especially ones that have been loyal to you and spent thousands over the past few years. Maybe had there been a different manager on duty things would have been handled different. We had never had any issues with Lakewood before. Sorry for the long post but it mirrors our level of frustration over what should have been a minor misunderstanding and friendly correction. Obviously the fine and money weren't the key issues but rather the unwillingness of Lakewood to understand the issue and correct it on behalf of a good customer. Outside of all of this experience, we do like Lakewood the best of the big three (Ocean Lakes and Pirateland included). We just wish there would have been a better effort to mitigate the problem.
Attached are photos of the signage that was misunderstood (thought it related to golf carts) and our...
Read moreI absolutely love Lakewood Campground Resort and have been coming here my entire life. Itâs been a family tradition for decades, almost every year growing up, and now that my siblings and I have our own families, we continue that tradition our parents started. This place holds so many wonderful memories, and itâs truly one of my favorite destinations. We just got back from our Labor Day weekend trip, and part of the excitement after a great weekend at Lakewood was knowing that we already had next yearâs trip booked. While reviewing the confirmation email for that 2026 trip, I noticed something was off. Originally, I had booked for July 2025, but we later called to move the dates to July 2026. Unfortunately, the associate who helped us made a mistake and booked it for June 2026 instead of the July dates we specifically requested. June would never have been an option for us since our kids are still in school then. When I called to explain, the first employee I spoke with was kind, understanding, and acknowledged it looked like an error. However, she explained she wasnât authorized to make another change and encouraged me to call back once her supervisor was available. When I finally spoke with the supervisor, I was very disappointed with how the situation was handled. Instead of approaching the issue with understanding, she immediately pointed out that their system shows when we opened the confirmation email. I acknowledged this was an oversight on our part for not noticing sooner. We took accountability and admitted we missed it. But I also asked for them to take accountability for the mistake that occurred when our request for July was booked as June. Unfortunately, the supervisor was unwilling to do so. She emphasized that we had âplenty of timeâ to catch the mistake and refused to help us adjust the reservation, even though it was clearly a miscommunication. I fully understand that businesses have rules and policies, and I respect that. But when a guest who has been loyal for decades comes forward with a genuine mistake, one partially caused by staff, it would mean so much if management could show flexibility and shared accountability. The lack of compassion and unwillingness to make things right was very discouraging, especially from a supervisor. I still absolutely love camping at Lakewood, and this campground will always be tied to so many of my best family memories. But this experience was a reminder to review every email and every detail carefully because of how strict and rigid their system has become. My hope is that Lakewood can find a better balance between enforcing policy and providing the kind of warm, understanding customer service that matches the family-friendly atmosphere theyâve built their...
Read moreThis was our first time staying at Lakewood and we stayed a total of 6 days. We very much enjoyed our time there and will likely go back in the future. There were some pros and cons to this resort but I feel like the amenities and location were a big plus. We stayed at lot 1205 which was right beside the Waterpark and pool, maybe 50 yards. This site like many others are not on concrete so be prepared for a lot of sand and mess, especially if it rains. They have 3 slides and the lines were minimal even during peak hours. The pool is rather large, both the pool and Waterpark have lifeguards on duty. The pool is open until 10 pm and the Waterpark and lazy river are open until 8 pm. The Waterpark and lazy river have tubes provided to ride and there are plenty. Can't have any sort of float in the pool. Our site was about 100 yards from the beach. They have a Chick-fil-A on site during the daytime and pets are only allowed after 5 pm. The private beach is about a half mile long so there's plenty of space. The beach was always clean and well maintained. They have golf cart rentals for 74$ a day for a 4 seater and $113 for a 6 seater. You can pick those up until 5 pm. It's a very good time just cruising all the roads on the golf cart. They also do nightly golf cart parades and everyone decorated theirs with floats, lights, and different things, even if it was a rental. They have two ice cream shops, two or 3 food trucks, and a trading post to buy supplies. They also offer free Put put golf and paddle boat rentals that are included in your site rental. The only cons were, they have about 4 ice machines located around the property. One was about 20 yes from our site. It was down 3 out of the 6 days we were there. I heard and talked to multiple people who were upset because they had to leave the grounds to find ice for the day, myself included. The other con was, that my site had two power hookups and sewer hookups. If I parked close to one the 25ft power cord on our RV wouldn't reach. One of the sewer hookups was completely uphill and wouldn't remotely drain. Both were too far and I had to drive to the nearest Walmart and add 10ft extension to my already 25ft pipe. The only usable sewer hookup didn't have a threaded pipe so I had to place a hitch on there to keep it from popping out. Unfortunately, my neighbor behind me had the same problem as his pipe wasn't threaded either. At the end of the day, we really enjoyed our time here and the resort. I do believe Lakewood should improve their ice machines and the sewer hookups as those are rather frustrating problems. But as I mentioned earlier, the pros outweighed the cons for us and we will likely be...
