We came down from VA for a weekend getaway. 2 adults, 1 10yr old and a dog. The room was advertised as an oceanview room, clean, and newly renovated. We reserved a 2 dble bed standard room. First off the parking lot is BARELY able to be navigated as it was SO small. Now the Oceanview- if u look out the dirty window in the back, AAAALLLLL the way to the right u can see a TINY bit of the ocean and the view from the dirty chairs and table in front of our door was of the pool area that looked like a scene straight out of My Name is Earl! There were literally 3 or 4 buildings between us and the water. Cldnt see the ocean, cldnt hear the ocean. Clean? Compared to the dumpster sitting out front....sure.... The floors were dirty, there were at least 3 or 4 dead flies on it which we had to pick up, the windows n screens u cld barely see thru, dirt on most surfaces, and couch and chair in the room were stained and filthy. Will say tho, the fridge was clean, dented badly, but clean, lol! Renovation? (yea, ok)- there were soft spots in the floor in the bathroom that i swear felt like i was gonna fall into the downstairs room, the paint on the hollow feeling walls, which was basically just a piece of flexible plywood, was peeling and bubbling, due to im sure the moisture, the coffee maker screwed up several times, n spewed coffee all over the counter, the main ac was so loud and thr was some kind of rattling noise that sounded like it was gonna blow up, secondary ac was a floor stand 1 that was loose n almost tipped over if u barely touched it, the TV in front room (yes the rooms were separated by the afore mentioned piece of plywood) was kinda hanging off the wall and crooked. We were on the second floor and the outside flooring that u walk on leading to the room was also just pieces of plywood. If ne1 weighs more than, lets say, 250lbs....ur probably gonna fall thru. The bedding however, did look newer and not the granny flowery looking 1s in some of the older pics for this property, so there's that.... Which comes to the point of THIS PLACE IS NOT AS ADVERTISED IN THE PICS OR THE TEXT DESCRIPTION!!! Half of the pics, mostly for the views were from a different property! 90% of what they described this whole property to be was BS! When we pulled up, we had our doubts. As soon as we walked in n saw the condition of the room, we called the front desk to see if we cld get a refund so we cld change hotels, and were told that since we went thru booking.com, we had to call them n the hotel mgr cldnt do nething abt it! Well, customer service for booking.com is based out of the NETHERLANDS!!! We cldnt get a hold of anyone to help us, so we had to suck it up n stay. We reserved another room at a different hotel for the next nite and asa it was checkout time, we ran for our lives!!! We r still trying to get our money back, even if only part, from booking.com for having to go thru all of this crap! Travelers...GO...
Read moreOur first indication of bad property management was trying to call and leave important messages regarding our needs for this stay. No phone call answered. No message answered. Even Booking.com attempted to contact the motel and had no luck. This motel is one in a series of old Outer Banks motels that were once pristine, clean and enjoyable according to local sources I have known for over 30 years. Here we have a clash of cultures. Unfortunately the Indian culture that has bought up these old properties gets a government pass on taxes for 5 years, and then they sell it to a relative to start the process over again. These people own several properties on the OBX including the Driftin' Sands and one in Manteo that is disgusting to look at from the street. We tried to stay here at the Colonial and did "manage" for three nights. We did not leave early, due to the fact that I knew we could not get our money back. My first issue was the window that was left unlocked beside the bed. My disabled wife had a difficult time with this "accessible" room. I had to move furniture around to even begin to have room. I made the mistake of walking around the room barefoot, and my feet were almost black from the dirty floor. Dust and sand were all over the floor and especially where it would take some effort to clean. The room had not been properly cleaned for a long time. No maintenance at all. The closet ceiling had been halfway repaired from a leak likely from upstairs. The paint is chipped off the doors and looks nasty. The tile in the bathroom had been cracked, the old tile soap dish had been broken off and not repaired. Terrible caulking around the sink area, and even some wiped off a finger onto the tile wall. Wiring in the room was mostly tacked to the wall openly. The wall unit AC had some kind of cloth or bags stuffed in the space that was left open due to terrible installation by someone who has no idea how to maintain anything. There was a large wall patch below the bedside window which looked halfway done. Even wiring on the outside of the motel looked like something from a third world country. The parking lot was very nasty with sand covering every corner. A highly visible trashy corner of the parking lot had old machinery and a trash bin that does not belong within view. The paint on the outside of the hotel is peeling everywhere. The ice machine outside was improperly draining from hoses into the parking lot. Seems to us that the health inspector for Dare county needs to make a stop here. The Chamber of Commerce must have no knowledge of the situation here, however they will know soon. Prior to our stay we gave it the benefit of a doubt, however we were sorely and completely disappointed. We have many photos of all the aforementioned problems. Please heed this warning and do not attempt a stay in...
