DO NOT RECOMMEND

We had an opportunity to pick up our pilot late one evening & decided to make it a fun little overnight for our kids.

When we arrived, it was obvious there was construction taking place. Okay. We checked in & the front desk took my card for incidentals & put a $100 hold on it. Fine. What she didn't tell me was that at the same time, she charged me another $75. Our room was free through our Bonvoy.

The front desk person told us the restaurant was still open for 51 more minutes & we could also enjoy the outdoor pool. When we came down 6 or so minutes later, the restaurant was almost empty w/ an open pizza box & food debris on one of the tables. I went to ask the front desk if we were at the right dining area. She said "Yeah. If you don't see them at the desk (there is no desk) just call for them." We went back over & asked the bar tender. She informed us that they were closing very soon. My receipt says "Ordered 9:15pm". Still 45 more minutes as advertised on the website & according to the front desk. Just moments after we paid, a pilot came in asking to order. He was turned down. Then the cook came out from the back to inform us that she only had "fryer" foods. We then Ordered 1 cheese pizza (she said she could do pizza) & two orders of cheese sticks. I tipped the bar tender 30% bc at this point I still felt like I was somehow misinformed & they were being kind.

There were men at the bar & one women. The conversation was about making sure to bring shots & or the bottle. The bar tender poured herself & a friend a shot each. I saw a male at the elevators so drunk he could hardly stand up. I began to feel uneasy about our surroundings.

When I say this hotel has gone DOWN HILL, I cannot express it enough. It felt like I was in Biff's world from Back to The Future.

We went back to our room & my kids decided to swim. We went to the pool to find it locked. We went to the desk & were told it was closed. (To her credit, the gal at the desk felt responsible & did let my kids pick a piece of candy.) My husband had been told he was lucky because we were getting a renovated room. I had to use my weight just to shut the door. It had at least a half inch all the way round that light poured in from the hallway. No seal. There was debris in the floor of the shower & on the 9th floor, I had to ask my children to stay away from the window because it wasn't completed in the trim out.

At 11:05 we went back down to head to the airport to get my husband. The front desk person had guests & she was sitting at a table w/ them. The Bar tender & cook were with the men from the bar. They were there when we returned approx. 25 mins later. We went up to bed.

The next morning, my 11 year old realized she left her purse in the restaurant. ANYONE who opened this would know it was a child's purse.

We called the front desk & the response we got was very odd. She told my husband that it would "take a few minutes to try to find it". When we came down we thought we'd check at the bar. Remember, I had over tipped so I thought surely they'd have been kind to my girl & put her bag up or in lost and found. New bar tender. "No purse". The morning manager was there cleaning up water off of the floor & very much not attempting to find the purse. She wanted to send us on our way w/ an answer that she'd call us "if it turned up".

I informed her calmly that we needed to look harder because we were the only patrons of the restaurant & it was not only early in the morning. The only people around were the staff & their guests.

She immediately got defensive & said "What are you implying?". I told her that I wanted her to contact those from the cleaning crew & night shift to inquire. I explained that it had a lot of money ($84 is a lot when you're 11) & my daughter's emergency items for her food allergy. She just wanted us to leave. I told her we would wait while she looked. She went behind the desk & was back in moments. Why would she be defensive?

Needless to say, nobody called us today to...

We've stayed at the Preston on numerous occasions & they've taken a lot of my money over the years. I have always had a pleasant experience. The gym is VERY small but since I'm lazy and don't like to do anything with the word "work" in it when I'm on vacation that's fine. The pool area is beautiful, the rooms are clean, the staff largely great, and it's only a few minutes to downtown (about $12 for Uber which is better than the $400 per 15 minutes they want to charge you to park). It's my 12yo daughter's favorite hotel though, granted, she doesn't get out much.

However...things went awry on our most recent visit (end of July 2023). We booked a room on Hotwire for 1 night. About an hour after we checked in, I got back on Hotwire and extended our stay. The money left my account & I received an itinerary & confirmation number. I spoke to the night receptionist and he said it was no problem, but that I'd have to check out/re-check in the next morning since it was technically a new reservation. Whatevs. I was just happy that I wouldn't have to change rooms.

The next morning, I went downstairs about half an hour before checkout to do as I'd been instructed. However, at this time the receptionist looked at me like I had 2 heads & informed me that, thanks to George Strait and Little Big Town, they were full and that Hotwire had never sent them my new reservation. They had no record of me staying a second night and couldn't accommodate me because the hotel was full. Thanks, LBT. (Leave King George out of it.) I was traveling with 3 kids (luckily my 4th child, aka my husband, had stayed home) & despite it NOT being Christmas there was no room in the inn. We essentially had no place to go since my money was tied up in the hotel's nonexistent room. They offered to refund that night but with my bank it could take several days to show up. I declined to do this until I spoke to (yelled at, cursed, whatever) Hotwire. I had a confirmation number from Hotwire, but the hotel was all like, "Uh, yeah, full is full, lady." (Paraphrased.)

Luckily, after a bit of voodoo and threatening to never use them again (something both me & the website knew was a hollow threat) Hotwire was able to transfer my reservation to another nearby hotel and covered the price difference.

As we were scurrying around the room trying to toss things in random bags and ensure that we weren't inadvertently leaving underwear stuffed in weird places, a worker knocked and demanded to know why we had not left the hotel since it was 30 minutes past checkout. (I think he tried to be intimidating, but I grew up as a girl living on the boys' side of an Appalachian boarding school- I've seen it all). I was like, "Uh, we didn't even know we HAD to leave until 15 minutes ago. Slow your roll."

He seemed so understanding that methinks it wasn't his first rodeo. But just as we were starting to bond he was all, "That's cool. As long as you're out within the next 30 minutes we won't charge you." Dude...😬

(Honestly, the fact that I was able to get 4 of us packed and out in less than an hour was kind of amazing. If you knew my kids then you'd agree. Ever tried herding cats on speed?)

To be clear, none of this was my fault. I'd paid for the night, received a confirmation, and the money was...somewhere. I don't know who screwed up, but in the words of Shaggy...

Regardless, it was all very dramatic. With so many concerts going on, a lot of hotels were already at capacity and the ones that weren't were way out of my price range. (I went to Belmont and therefore, as a rule, refuse to spend more than my former tuition to sleep 1 night in Nashville.) I really was afraid I would be stranded with three kids and have to sleep in my Mommobile (aka minivan)-especially since 2 are pushing 6ft.

The hotel didn't apologize for this or try to accommodate us in any way except for promising that they wouldn't charge me for a late check out. I thought about telling them who I was but "horror author with 24 books" isn't the flex my kids...

I visited with my family over memorial day weekend 2023 and did not have a good experience. One star is too many...its not an option to give zero. Its a dump and would rather sleep in my car

Specifically the staff at the front desk the late evening of 5/26/23 was not accommodating, extremely rude, offensive, and not willing to resolve my issues. The lady didn't even try and didn't care about my issue. I am surprised she even has a job there and would be better in the laundry service rather than be the face of customer service for the hotel. Completely inept and the worst example for customer service. I wouldn't trust her with a cup of coffee

My kids were traveling with me and there was not adequate blankets in the room for my family. My kids went down to the front desk to ask the attendant for extra blankets. She at first ignored them, then rudely snapped at them when requesting more blankets. There were 4 kids and she eventually provided one blanket and would not give them anymore, even though they specifically asked her

I proceeded to visit the front desk myself and received the same treatment...rude, short, and she refused to provide any more. She said the hotel does not have any and can't do anything about it, and wouldn't provide additional sheet sets in leu of blankets, even though I saw an entire shelf full of them. After I asked several times her associate provided them reluctantly. He did nothing to try and resolve the issue either, and at times agreed with her treatment of hotel guests

I asked for the manager which she said was not available, and also asked for the general manager who she also said was not available. She also refused to provide me her name when I asked for it. She said she did not have to provide it to me even though I repeatedly asked for it. She eventually provided me the card for the GM and walked away, still not addressing the issue and saw her leave the property minutes later

I called the GM using the contact information on the business card and left several messages and never once did he answer, or return my calls. To this day nobody from the hotel has ever called to apologize or address the issue. I will keep calling the GM but don't have any confidence he will respond and address the problem. I see other reviews where onsite management is ignoring the calls of other customers. Seems to be the norm with management and completely unacceptable.

The room itself was dated, not clean and the shower head was not attached to the wall properly and looked like it was going to fall off. The only thing that worked well was the AC... The only good experience was at the bar as the service was great and Bert was exceptional. The wall outlet was exposed and falling out of the receptacle, found water damage, and earwigs were in the room. Just a complete disaster and probably would have better experience in a tent.

The quality of the service was terrible and the quality of the room was poor. The bar was the best part and will never stay at this hotel again. Highly recommend staying here unless you like subpar rooms and being treated poorly by the staff at the front desk. I would stay away from Hotel Preston...

My recommendation for hotel management is to replace the lady at the front desk. She is hurting your business more than she is helping. Her customer service skills are one of the worst I have seen. I am sure that me and my kids are not the first she has treated badly. She is costing you customers and money each day she remains at that position. Management really needs to take their customer service, hotel maintenance, and staffing serious. You need some major changes in staffing and property maintenance. Gut the place and your staff...they are worthless minus the bar staff which were good.

Where are the owners in this mess? I see other customers experiencing the...
