My husband and I have stayed at Gruene Mansion Inn once or twice a year for about 15 years, but I think that will change after the bad experience of the past visit. My mum-in-law had never stayed at the mansion, so we decided to bring her for a weekend. We booked the Grand River Lodge, which has a bedroom and 2 bathrooms downstairs and a bedroom upstairs in the loft because we wanted to have separate sleeping space.||Not long after arriving, we noticed water dripping from the ceiling and a large puddle in one of the bathrooms. It appeared to have been dripping for a while so we were surprised the staff had not noticed it when prepping the room. I contacted the front desk, and a woman looked at the mess and said she would call someone to determine the problem. We agreed to go out for a while and give them time to address the problem. After a couple hours, I received a call that the A/C drip pan had overflowed and was now fixed. We returned and water was no longer dripping, but it was a very hot day and with A/C off while being repaired, the room had become unbearably warm. I let the woman at the front desk know the room was too hot to occupy, and we were going out again. We left for another three hours, and when we returned, the downstairs had cooled to 75 deg, but the loft was still really warm. It eventually cooled down overnight but was miserable, even with a fan blowing, for several hours.||When I got up in the morning, I expected to start my day with a cup of the Vienna coffee that had been provided on previous visits. I was upset to discover that despite the Mansion website stating they provide Vienna coffee, there were only Cuisinart pre-filled coffee packs. I went to the front desk to inquire about the coffee because I really like the Vienna and was told they no longer provide Vienna coffee in the rooms. If I wanted some, I could purchase a bag to brew in my room or buy a cup in The Pantry. ||I explained that the website specifically mentioned Vienna coffee in each room and asked if I could have a cup as a goodwill gesture because of the A/C problem and being unable to use our room for several hours the previous day. I didn't think I was being overly demanding to request a $3 cup of coffee when we were paying $855 without taxes for 2 nights, but the woman at the front desk disagreed and told me I was not entitled to anything and if I wanted premium coffee, I needed to pay for it like everyone else. I declined.||The remainder of the stay was fine. The Coffee Haus down the street has a flavorful pecan blend coffee, and maybe I was being petty, but I wasn't going to pay the Mansion extra for premium coffee that their website states is included.||I enjoy the location of the Mansion, being able to sit on the porch in the evening and listen to music or in the morning with the sound of birds and river view. However, what I consider a lack of hospitality of this recent stay has made me rethink future visits. Maybe the staff is correct that asking for a free cup of coffee was excessive, but an apology doesn't cost anything, and we didn't...
Read moreStayed 2 nights but no room available for both so stayed in 2 rooms. 1st night Berthas Room in main mansion, upstairs so a bit of challenge to get to, used back staircase (a little uneven and slippery if at all wet so be careful). Gorgeous room with Victorian feel, elegant furnishings, bed was very comfortable with soft sheets, loved the claw foot tub and private access to wrap around porch that overlooks town and has several rocking chairs. The room can be noisy due to location but they have earplugs in room to help cancel noise. Mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave in room, well worth the price. Excellent location in heart of Gruene. 2nd night Riverbarn Getaway back of property, did not like this room as much, same price as first room, but this one was small, bed and sheets were very uncomfortable, felt like a tiny cheap hotel also had coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge. Did not feel this room was worth the price. Free parking on location you're given a parking pass. Second night we could not find parking, spoke to someone who said they never enforce parking and many of the cars were non guests, so we had to park far away. Check out is 11 am but hotel woke me up twice both mornings just after 8am with texts reminding me to check out at 11. Lots of outdoor seating to relax and area in the back to walk to river (a bit of a hike downhill.) You can purchase breakfast in The...
Read moreJust left after a little Anniversary get-a-way. It was our first time staying here and we stayed in the hay loft. The view was amazing, the room was so cute and comfortable. The ONLY negative I could ever say about this place had more to do with our room location than anything else. This is probably more our fault for getting married over spring break in the first place. The walk way in front of our room was used alot.. by children. Not the most ideal with floor to ceiling windows on an anniversary weekend but hey , the blinds were nice. I do have to say that while there was a decent amount of foot traffic in front of our room, no-one was loud or prying in anyway. Next the front desk ladies!! Ciecly! Hands down, the sweetest young lady. We forgot a fan and she went looking around the entire property to deliver one to us late in the evening. She remembered us every morning and afternoon/evening when we went in for different things. The breakfast was yum. So not your normal hotel breakfast. It was all so homey and welcoming. All in all. Its worth the money. I could go on and on about how wonderful this place is but just go check it out for yourself.
Ps. Not a drinker as was a little worried it would feel like a bartown but it didnt! Plus we enjoyed a free concert from the mansion side of...
