I went to The Gruene Olive for the first time today and it was really the highlight of my day in the town. The decor, with it's Turkish lamps and handpainted bowls from local artists, is colorful and inviting. The products are high quality with an impressive range of selection. I got some of the lemongrass mint white basalmic vinegar and just cooked a delightful bowl of Vietamese rice noodles with kimchi and other veggies. It was a little more pricey than what you could get at a grocery store, but totally worth it for the quality and would make a wonderful gift for the foodie in your family.
The best thing about it was the Southern hospitality. I wish I'd gotten the name of the woman working there, but she was one of the most genuinely friendly people I've ever met. I loved the experience of watching her label, fill, and seal my own bottle. I even got to pet the Tom cat they feed behind the store! Score! The bottles of olive oil, white and dark balsamic vinegar are all infused with flavor not your home crafting.
The first time, I purchased the "Tuscan" the top seller at that time. We have thoroughly enjoyed dressing up pastas, croutons, bread butter (olive oil) dipping and more. I used it as more of a finisher than to only cook but you can. I find i can cut back on the additions because I have the Italian garlicky tasty in a simple bottle from the Gruene Olive Tasting Room.
