STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!!
We had a NIGHTMARE of a 3 night stay at this hotel which began by us checking in on a Friday night only to be “greeted” by a Reception Staff wearing a baggie hoodie and a black durag. What a terrible and unprofessional first impression!!!
This hotel is very dated, very poorly managed, and a chaotic disaster at its very best. During our first night we were “locked out” of our room mid-day because Reception apparently thought that we had left the hotel and all our belongings behind. I still have no idea how they arrived at this conclusion? I was also charged to my credit card a second room that we had already cancelled. This was quickly corrected by Reception, but only after I pointed this out.
During the first night there was a large party happening only a few doors down from our room blaring extremely loud hip hop/rap music until 5:30 a.m.! I wasn’t able to sleep at all the first night as a result of this disturbance. It appears that hotel guests disturbing other hotel guests at all hours of the night is accepted by the hotel staff.
The bed mattress was another NIGHTMARE. This is a very common complaint made by many reviewers. The mattress is so soft that it actually causes back pain and is bound to result in you having a horrible sleep. I have no idea how old the mattresses are, but it is about time that this hotel invest in some new mattresses for all the rooms.
During my second night stay I purchased a $3 Orange Crush soda from the soda machine located in the lobby only to find out after drinking half the bottle that the soda was 2 months expired. There is obviously no quality control at this hotel, food safety or otherwise. It is very concerning that the hotel is selling expired food products to their guests. I have never seen anything like this before.
During my third night the bathroom shower and toilet both became clogged for an unbeknown reason. We immediately advised Reception of this issue. The hotels’ solution was to move us to another room with 2 queen beds (on the same floor) notwithstanding that we had specifically booked a room with a king bed. Apparently, the Maintenance Worker ends their day at 4:00 p.m. so there was “nothing else” that the hotel could do for us. I can only imagine what would happen in the event that there is any maintenance issue after 4:00 p.m.? Again, not even a simple apology given for this major inconvenience and blatant downgrading of our room.
This has been by far the worst hotel experience that I have ever had. I am a frequent traveller, having travelled and stayed at many hotels across North America, and having stayed at many Best Westerns before, and this one stands out, by far, as the WORST HOTEL and Best Western that I have EVER stayed at.
This hotel needs a major remodelling and new management. Even better, just demolish the entire building and start fresh with a new hotel with new ownership.
That is not all. Expect a wait of at least 1 hour before getting picked up by the Shuttle Bus from the Newark Airport. Other local hotels had there Shuttle Busses come around 2-3 times each before this hotel’s Shuttle Bus even showed up once. Again, horrible customer service at every turn of our stay here.
The Reception Staff appear disinterested and they do not think “outside the box” to resolve issues in a reasonable and practical manner.
The rooms either smell heavily of bleach, stale cigarette smoke, or cheap perfume. The rooms each had their own unique disgusting smell.
I can go on, but the above should tell you all that you need to know to AVOID this hotel like a plague.
Overall, a very shoddy hotel and we did not feel safe at all. This hotel should be shut down. An embarrassment of a “hotel” and “Best Western”.

Read moreTerrible service. Period. I flew in from Seattle to Newark around midnight and got to P4 shortly after that. I called the hotel and was told my driver would be there in 15 minutes. Thirty-two minutes later still no driver. I called back and was told the driver would be there in 10 minutes. Fifteen minutes later still no driver. I called the hotel again and was told I'd need to take up my issue with the driver, and that all I could expect the front desk person to do was dispatch the driver, the rest was up to the him. I called an Uber instead, and was at the hotel front desk in 15 minutes.
I walked into a dirty lobby. There were bits of paper and debris on the carpets, and broken bottles near the elevator. No one wore a mask, but there were signs everywhere saying that this hotel required everyone to wear face coverings. Finally, I got to my room and the first thing I saw was a roach or something crawling around on the floor. There was hair on the floor; no one had swept in weeks. I kept everything in my suitcases. There were popcorn kernels and corn nuts in the corners and on the side of the bed. The sheets were stained. I tore them off to check for bed bugs and there were none, thankfully. I went downstairs and asked for a new room. By this time, it was 130am.
I got to my new room and this was an improvement except for the party of 50 three doors down. They talked loudly, yelled each other’s names and ran down the hallway until at least 5am. In fact, one guy from that party berated someone for at least 90 minutes. Going in and out of his room repeatedly, saying, “That’s on everything I love.” I was thinking, really, man. Just fight the dude already. It was crazy.
FYI: this place is full of youngsters and they’re doing their thing. Maybe I got here on the wrong day. Either way, I saw maybe four people over 25 years old (and that’s being generous). The front desk staff are unmotivated to care for the place. While I was there, they sat behind their desk and did nothing else but answer questions and bury their heads in their phones. No one cleaned the lobby or wiped down surfaces. No one vacuumed or took out the trash. The trash out front was coming out of the trash can. Someone had even placed an empty pizza box on top of it, and it still wasn’t emptied. And that’s the first thing a customer will see when they walk into the place!
Anyway, I’m over Best Western. This spot was not a Best Western Plus. But then again maybe it’s a regional thing. All I know is I’ve stayed at Best Western Hotels exclusively since 2011 and I’ve never run into one as poorly manned as this one. And the worst part is they didn’t even have breakfast. Not a biscuit, not a roll, no cereal or coffee. Nothing. And that’s one of the main reasons I chose Best Western in the past. I understand the covid-19 response to buffet style eating. But no breakfast at all? Staying here makes me question if I’ll ever stay at another Best Western again. For real. I know I’ll never stay at this one, and I suggest you...
Read moreMy husband and I purchased a rather expensive stay and cruise package for the day before our cruise in order to avoid any transportation problems. This hotel was stuck in a back section off the highway and needed more or larger signage to help with locating it. We arrived in a downpour, got drenched while unloading luggage from our car and the hotel was as dark and dismal as the day. The personnel were bright however, and very cheerfully told us we'd have to wait a while before being allowed to enter and dry out in the room we'd reserved almost two weeks earlier. There was hot water and a variety of teas as well as coffee, lemonade and chocolate chip cookies to munch while waiting for the room, if you didn't mind sitting in a poorly lit air-conditioned lobby in rain-wet clothing while doing so. The room itself, when we finally were allowed to access it was satisfactory. We were shuttled to a neighboring hotel for lunch as apparently we arrived in between mealtimes at Best Western. The food at that hotel was "old," including the "freshly" cooked french fries but that's for a different review. The Best Western buffet breakfast the following morning, although not finger-licking good, was edible. Scrambled eggs, sausages, a few pieces of fruit choices and a waffle maker were on the menu as well as a variety of teas and regular and decaf coffee, although a trip to the front desk to get someone to "fix" the decaf machine which was only producing hot water was required. The ride over to the cruise ship was with the same driver who had initially taken us to and picked us up from the neighboring hotel for lunch and was fine. The cab voucher we were given as part of our package which would return us to the hotel at the end of our cruise was just an expensive joke. None of the cabs, vans or cars available wanted to accept it, and we were forced to wait while everyone from the ship paying cash for transportation was whisked away while we supposedly waited for more people with vouchers to arrive, our only option being if we were willing to pay $20 each/$40 total over and above what we'd already paid for the package which included the voucher. After we called dispatch and complained, and after it was determined there were no more passengers from the ship looking for cabs, we were finally driven back to the hotel by a sultry driver who not only had to program his GPS, but wove though traffic in an unsafe manner. I add this to Best Western's review since it was part of their stay and cruise package, for which we paid twice as much as the regular room fee, and thus, also detracted from the overall review. If we ever cruise out of Bayonne in the future, we'll definitely select a different hotel and suggest the same to...
