Had a lovely and restful week at The Tipsy Butler! Steph is a delightful host, and the rooms are comfortable and thoughtfully laid out.
The location is easily walkable into downtown Damariscotta, assuming you can handle a few small inclines and don't mind the ~half a mile jaunt, which was a lovely walk on our first day after a few hours in the car.
Things I always wonder when I stay somewhere: Yes, TV, fridge, and microwave in the room, all worked excellently (great for late night Hulu watching to relax after hot days at the beach). Delicious breakfast each morning, and coffee/tea available through the day. Plenty of games and books on site, for any time you need to relax with a good read or challenge your traveling partners to Scrabble. There was a sauna we didn't end up using this time, but great to know it's on site! The air conditioning was fantastic. I've stayed in probably a half dozen B&Bs, cottages, and homes in the Damariscotta area from the 90s-today, and having an insulated top floor with good a/c is wonderful on those hot days - it was a relief to return to our room after the heat of the afternoon.
Of course, being in New England and near the water, it's not hot every day, and we had a mix of weather during our week-long stay. Steph was great at giving recommendations for things to do in the area, no matter the outdoor temps. I was able to catch up on local history and changes to the area. It was the perfect break from a hectic work schedule.
We will definitely be back. Highly recommend booking here for your next stay in the mid-coast...
Read moreA group of us stayed at The Tipsy Butler in September 2022 when we were in Newcastle for our friend's wedding, and what a delightful place this inn is! Stephanie and her family were SO welcoming -- it felt like we were staying with old friends as soon as we arrived. The house itself is cozy and clean and the rooms are comfortable, charming, and unique. I loved drinking coffee on the porch in the morning looking out over the property. Plus there are some very sweet pets on the premises if you are looking for a friendly cat or dog! (Though Stephanie was also very good about keeping the animals corralled to help with my husband's allergies.) Also even two months later I can't stop thinking about the breakfasts that Stephanie made us each morning. That open-faced smoked salmon omelet? The STILL WARM baked goods with real Maine blueberries?? And how she made sure coffee was ready to go super early in the morning as soon as I told her I was an early riser. My only complaint about our stay is that I wish we could have spent more time at the inn itself -- we were too busy out and about with wedding stuff!! I just wanted to hang out at The Tipsy Butler! But if you are in mid-coast Maine for a wedding, The Tipsy Butler is the ideal location to get around to spots in Damariscotta and Bristol. The amazing restaurants River House and the Shuck Station are within walking distance, and 1812 Farm (the wedding venue) was a short 10-minute drive down the road. Thanks for everything, Stephanie! I can't wait...
