Stayed here after driving about 7 hours on a road trip with my wife heading to Maine…anyway it was the ONLY hotel for a long time so we stopped . The room was a little expensive considering the location but it was the only hotel for a while so we paid the $184 and hoped for the best. We opted for the upgraded room after reading the other reviews suggesting they were better in quality. First thing the building the room was in did not have power in the main areas. Second we got to the room and it was freezing, it was the first week in September and we are from DC and wasn’t expecting it to be cold. We tried setting the temperature in the room but the thermostat did not work so we called the front desk and was told she had to set it from the front office. She asked us what temperature to set it to and we said 74. She said no problem and we went to sleep. The temperature in the room got up to 80 degrees that night. We were miserable. Got up the next day to check out and told another employee what happened and at first she acted like she didn’t know what I was talking about when I said we had to call the front desk to change the temperature, then she told me the system had gone down the day before and it wasn’t possible to change the temperature from the front desk, and finally she checked it and said our room did have that ability but the temperature had been set to 80. I was then told to call back to talk to the manager about maybe doing something about the price of the room but honestly the attitude we received after asking about the temperature and I can’t remember what the other issue we had was, so I decided to keep it moving and just give a review later. If you can, keep going to the next city to find a hotel but this place while it is clean isn’t big on customer service and is not worth almost $200 from...
Read moreFor the money, and its proximity to Jay Peak, NCI&S can't be beat. Indoor pool and hot tub, free Continental breakfast. (Matt, the head maintenance guy, drained the hot tub and refilled it of his own volition when I was there, just to make sure the water was clear for guests after a week of heavy, heavy use the week before.) Great staff, Brittany, Destiny, Bev, Yvette, Matt, et al. And they gave me a much needed check-out extension last month, not only with no problem, but with compassion. Seriously, considering it's in Newport City in the economically depressed Northern Kingdom, there has to be some perspective here. $400 a night at Jay Peak (no offense, I love Jay Peak), or $100 a night for NCI&S -- 20 minutes from Jay Peak, easily the best ski mountain and snow in all the East. I only post this because the staff has always been so good to me, and the value is exceptional. Too many people's expectations are often just too high or unreasonable. Get real, and consider NCI&S. (And if it's noisy -- heck, the nosiest room I've ever had was next to a drunk woman's room at the luxurious and historic $350/night Le Chateau Frontenac years back -- as one reviewer overly complained about . . . ever try foam ear plugs? I swear by them, and never leave home without them. And how is the staff supposed to deal with loud drunks? Call the police? Trust me, the police have bigger fish to fry.) Also, good restaurants in town too -- Hoagies (hey, Travis!), the lovely East Side Restaurant & Pub (hey, Mike!), the Tavern, et al., and a cute downtown with shops. Oh, one more thing: Ski fast and take chances. . . . (I ski the double green circles -- so extreme...
Read moreI thought this was a decent place for the money, but I was wrong. The walls are paper thin. You can hear everything. My floor creaked as well as the floor above me. The person upstairs was probably just walking around a bit but it sounded like there was an aerobics class upstairs. There were two drunks next door who were screaming at each other for a good two hours. I finally had to call the cops and get a new room. Worst motel experience of my life and I've stayed in some cheap ones.
Regarding Owners post below-"heavily discounted my stay"???. I was discounted 5 bucks, because the new room didn't have a refrigerator. I don't think that qualifies as "heavily discounted". Not your fault? Was it my fault that two drunks were screaming for two hours with no one from your motel doing anything about it? Bottom line-the walls and ceilings are paper thin and you can hear everything, as if the people are...
