This hotel claims a free airport shuttle in order to get your business, then doesn't have one, which cost me over $70 for the ride there... WRONG!!!Also, this place is already located in a poor area. But, with nobody at the front desk after 11pm and no security at any time, I felt SO VERY UNSAFE... and, there's metal brackets on half of the doors in the hallway leading to my room, indicating many break-ins. At the end of the hallway on all floors, every fire door is kept propped wide open, as well as the main fire door that's supposed to be kept locked at the very bottom, allowing access by ANYONE on the street in this already "sketchy" neighborhood. And, around 3AM, there was someone revving his/her motorcycle very loudly for approx. 30min; afterward, those same people were shouting at each other for a long while, with no security there to stop their disturbance, as well as upkeep the safety for their guests. On top of everything, as funny as this may sound, there were strange "clicking" sounds coming from the insides of the walls, with nearly simultaneous light flickering of one of the bedside lamps. This experience just kept getting worse and worse; I was so upset, it all terrified me,, and I felt extremely unsafe! I am still completely traumatized.Needless to say, I just could not get to sleep, and I could not stay there any longer. Plus, since I was in town, for two days, for the Yankees game later that afternoon, I certainly didn't feel comfortable leaving my valuables in the room while I was away for hours, including my passport and many important gifts I had brought back with me from my few weeks in the Philippines. So, I made countless calls to look for a different place to stay, so that I could leave right away. After hours of calls, I could not find availability that late in the middle of the night, that I thought would be safe in that area, after what I was already going through at that time. Then, I found a Holiday Inn within 5 minutes by foot, which was the only place that assured me that they had 24hr security and a 24hr front desk. I wanted to leave to go there immediately, but by that time (4:30AM), I wasn't going to put myself in danger by walking with luggage in that neighborhood; plus, I'd did have had to make a couple trips, back and forth, because I had several peices and couldn't muster it all at once. And, I couldn't book a ride-share, because no drivers were accepting such a short ride of 2min down the road. The conclusion to this all, is that I had to wait 'til morning, in terrible fear inside those four walls of my "room", and left without looking back. Luckily, I was actually able to book a ride, regardless of such the short distance, because it was daylight now and not at the scary "wee hours" of the night.I was able to get an early check-in at The Holiday Inn & Suites and the difference between the two was lokenight and day.Do NOT stay here...you have...
Read moreThe hotel was recently purchased, and not by a hotelier. The former Lyon logo was crudely removed leaving a giant circular empty metal shape above the marquee, which feels incomplete.
The new ‘business executive’ name is generic, designed to attract the high-end business traveler, but feels and is very low-end, printed in banner format and hung like a flag.
The former Lyon may have been run down, but this new version is merely $1-store lipstick applied to a corpse at a wake. only lowers expectations. Banners are used around the hotel as if it a convenience store and all-class is completely missing.
All nearby hotels catering to the same traveler gives breakfast away gratis. When a guest comes downstairs for coffee here, the waitress waits until his plate is full of the breakfast ‘buffet’ item and then asks, “should I charge the $12.99 to your room or will you pay cash?”
Forgive my use of buffet, it’s a short spread of a few items only. The space is really a bar, walking in the first thing you see are the backs of the bar fly’s backs.
Signs advertise a happy hour with well drinks for $2. It begs the question, ‘who are they marketing to?’
Even the best western and Marriott two blocks away serve a buffet spread with eggs and bacon. Making matters worse, employees over use Pine-sol for everything, and anything.
One of the two elevators is carpeted. Someone or something urinated on the material and then it was doused with headache causing amounts of the name brand cleaner.
Why not pull the rug out and reveal the marble underneath, and match the other elevator? Who knows, they are imperious to anything malodorous evidently,
I just know that at some point I’m gonna hear these words shouted between workers.
“I got a spill over here!”
And the not too long after reply, “I’ve got Oine-sol, I’ve got Oune-sol!”
Class you can fake, taste cannot be. Taste is lacking, class unfindable save the gentleman who honors the front door as a part bell master and the other part wise man of help, assistance and even sage advise.
Sadly, brainiacs confirm fragrances are wired to our long term memory. That fact made my stomach gurgle a bit and then I had this thought.
From now on, when I fly in or out of OAK, the pungent cocktail of urine and Pine-Sol will mark the hotel’s location just like a google pin drop....
Read moreStay Away from Oakland Executive Hotel: A Nightmare to Remember
I write this review as a cautionary tale for anyone who may be considering a stay at the Oakland Executive Hotel. This hotel is, without a doubt, the most unsafe, unhygienic, and unsettling place I have ever had the misfortune of staying at. I implore you, for your own well-being, to avoid this establishment at all costs.
Upon entering our room, it became immediately apparent that cleanliness and hygiene were not high on the hotel's list of priorities. Stains marred the walls and carpets, while an unmistakable odor of mold and dampness permeated the air. As a family, we felt our skin crawl at the thought of spending the night in such a filthy environment.
But the lack of cleanliness was just the beginning of our nightmarish experience. As we tried to settle in, the sound of someone— or something— banging on pipes echoed through the halls. The noise was incessant, intensifying late into the night and ensuring that a peaceful night's sleep was nothing but a distant dream. The cacophony was accompanied by an eerie feeling of unease, leaving our family petrified and fearing for our lives.
The atmosphere of the Oakland Executive Hotel was not just unsettling; it was downright dangerous. With every passing moment, we grew increasingly concerned for the safety of our belongings. Our car, parked in the hotel's lot, seemed vulnerable to break-ins, but the overwhelming feeling of insecurity made us hesitant to leave our room to check on it. The hotel staff, who should have been a source of reassurance, did little to alleviate our fears, leaving us to fend for ourselves in this dreadful place.
I cannot emphasize enough how crucial it is to stay away from the Oakland Executive Hotel. No amount of cost savings can justify subjecting yourself and your loved ones to the potential dangers and horrors that await within its walls. Do yourself a favor: heed this warning and choose any other place to stay in the area. Your safety, peace of mind, and overall well-being...
