We arrived at 9:00 AM so that we could enjoy a full day of sun even without our room.
Upon arrival we pulled up to the main entrance and were greeted by a friendly valet staff who recognized we were in a Tesla and gave us directions to the EV chargers.
We were quickly checked in, and given rubber wristbands for the ammenities.
We drove to the EV charging spaces and found 2 NACS (Tesla) chargers and one J-1772 charger. The NACS chargers provided 11.5kW (43/hr charge rate in our Model 3). No spaces were ICEd as the chargers are on the far edge of the property, but it does mean a bit of a longer walk which is better than ICEd spaces.
They called that our room was ready at 10:30 AM and at about 11:00 AM we got our wristband room keys. On the walk back it started to rain which turned into a downpour, so after dropping stuff off we enjoyed a slightly early lunch indoors.
We got our lunch from Costal Coffee in the lobby and then ate at some tables by the windows. The food quality was good, but Coastal Coffee only had a single person working so it was slow. That is not a dig against the individual, but against the lack of adequate staffing.
While enjoying our lunch we noticed the resort had set out coloring sheets and crayons for kids. Thankfully the rain lifted and we were back outside at 12:30 PM. Unforutnately the umbrellas had to stay closed due to wind to prevent damage - this is not a complaint against the resort as it is completely reasonable.
I (a middle-aged man) had a problem with the wristband room key causing an abrasion on my wrist, the staff swapped my wristband to a key card, but did not express any concern about the abrasion. I did have to wear the rubber wristband for the rest of my visit since I no longer had the key wristband.
More rain came around 3:30 PM, but we planned to go in around 4:00 PM to get ready for an off-site dinner. In the room we ran into two minor annoyances with the shower. Housekeeping put the mat in the shower, and left the shower adjusted to spray from the wand and had the wand pointed where your face would be if turning on the shower from the outside. I ended up getting sprayed in the face with water, and it sprayed the mirror on the far side.
The next morning we noticed the door doesn't shut naturally, you must push/pull/slam the door for it to latch. Every time we left or returned to our room we saw multiple room doors not shut including hotel service area doors. We notified the desk thinking it is probably just a minor issue with the new locks being sticky and they said "it's an old building with heavy doors, you have to slam them". It would be incredibly easy to end up with your door not being secured an you not knowing it which is unacceptable and inexcusable once notified.
We then had breakfast at Coastal Coffee. Again they only had a single individual working, but the coffee and food was good.
Around 11:25 AM a very friendly staff member came we were able to order from Perdido Beach Pizza or Splash Bar and Grille. We ordered a small pizza to split, it was a 10 inch cut into quarters. It was delivered at 11:50 with plates, napkins, parmesan cheese packets, and red pepper packets. She walked by about every 30 minutes and explicitly checked with us about every other pass.
One key factor in us choosing to stay at Perdido Beach Resort was the presence of the EV chargers, from our home in southeastern Louisiana we can drive all the way there and have about 40 miles of range left, then charge up all the way overnight before leaving and make it home with about 40 miles. Thankfully even if we were not able to charge at the hotel there is a Supercharger in Orange Beach, and if we found ourselves running low along the way there are 3 superchargers on the route (D'Iberville, MS; Robertsdale, AL [at a Buc-ee's], and Orange Beach, AL [at The Wharf]) and 3 just slightly off the route (Slidell, LA; Pearl River, LA; Mobile, AL). Typically we avoid the Buc-ee's and get off one exit earlier because there is frequently a lot of traffic...
Read moreUpon arrival first pleasant surprise was free valet parking! Checked in, very friendly staff. Took time to explain the hotel's features and services. Received a wrist band that is used as the door key and to show staff and security we are guests. Hotel has armed security on foot through the hotel.
Dinner was at Voyagers restaurant in the hotel. I had a filet Oscar, served with hollandaise sauce. Medium rare. In most restaurants they over cook steaks, but they got it right. I've had steaks all over the US and Europe, and this was the best steak I'd ever had! Wife had a snapper dish, seasoned very well. She loved it. I had for dessert a chocolate cake, with moose and white chocolate. Spectacular. Service with waiter new to the restaurant and his trainer. Both were extremely friendly and attentive. In most restaurants once served we don't see the server until they bring the check. They checked back several times, which I appreciated. Overall a wonderful experience.
In the evening we went to the lobby bar. Piano player, very good. We asked and TV was changed so we could see the Mavericks Lakers game. Very enjoyable evening.
The next morning we had breakfast at Latitude, a hotel restaurant had pancakes, yummy. Wife had a omelet which she enjoyed. Good attentive service.
Ate outside the resort for dinner. That evening spent in lobby bar. Piano player excellent, service good.
Dinner third night at Latitude. Both had snapper, wife grilled, me blackened. Wife started wit Cesar salad, she really enjoyed.
Wife had fish tacos with tater tots. She loved the meal. I enjoyed the blackened snapper. Server was Marvin who was excellent. We had him previously for breakfast. Extremely friendly and attentive. Dessert was Key Lime Pie. Excellent. One.of the.best we've had.
Can't say enough about Marvin. He really took great care of us. Checked back often. Great sense of humor. He would be a great restaurant manager.
Went to Lobby Lounge after dinner. I ordered coffee, server told me they don't serve coffee but said he would take care of it. He went to Latitude restaurant and got coffee for me there. Amazing! Onique was our server. Great guy! Coffee was really really good. Wife requested Andre Crouch from the piano player, he knew him and played for us.
Saturday morning breakfast at Latitudes, Marvin was our server again. Spoke with him for a while, learned about his family. His service is excellent. Learned that the hotel was built 1987 was a Hilton before owner purchased. A lot of the staff been here over 20 years. I had ham and cheese omelet again, fantastic. Wife had Biscuit bowl, which was eggs, cheese and bacon on a biscuit. She said it was excellent.
Karissa was our hostess at the Lobby Lounge Monday night. She is delightful. My wife doesn't drink and Karissa suggested a virgin Pina Colada, which was terrific.
Dinner our last night was at Voyager's in the hotel. I again had the filet, best I've ever had. Medium Rare and they got it right. It was my wife's 60th birthday. She had Seafood pasta, fettuccine with shrimp, scallops and blue crab claws. She said it was outstanding. Our server was Christina, she was absolutely wonderful. She brought my wife cholate covered strawberries for her birthday. I had a triple cholate cake, scrumptious.
After dinner we went to the Lobby Bar. Server we'd gotten to know there let the piano player know it was my wife's 60th birthday, and the piano Player played Happy Birthday for my wife. My wife got to know some people there, danced with them, then she and I danced. Wife said her birthday was great. Upon leaving, the server gave my wife and I hugs, welcoming us to come back.
Overall, we were very pleased with the Perdido Beach resort. The service from the staff was fantastic, the restaurants excellent, the room was heavenly, and the lobby bar enjoyable. It exceeded our expectations. We'd had a cruise that had awful food last year, and we were apprehensive. Perdido Beach gave us a...

Perdido Beach Resort has always been a favorite of ours, and we visit here several times a year. The location is stunning, with a beautiful, pristine beach and crystal-clear pools that we love spending time at. One of the highlights of our trips is the live music by the pool—it really adds to the relaxing, vacation vibe and is something we always look forward to.
However, despite the wonderful setting, we've noticed a steady decline in attention to service details. The poolside bar is painfully slow, and the staff doesn't seem very attentive. If you’re hoping for a quick drink while enjoying the live music or lounging by the pool, you’ll be waiting longer than you'd expect. There was not any poolside service as well.
We also booked a suite on our visit, for our anniversary, but was really disappointed to find that it doesn't come with any expected suite-level amenities and only with a limited beach view. The tower itself is beautiful, the carpet reminds me of turtles swimming! The bed was absolutely terrible, offered little support for us and the frame was too big and hung over, so I kept hitting my legs on it. While the sink-side toiletries offer a nice variety, they are far too small to last a full week. Plus if you offer bathtubs you should offer bath gel for baths! On top of that, housekeeping is on call only, meaning you have to clean up yourself using the trash bags provided. I completely understand the concept but a suite is reserved for a reason…at a “resort” - It feels more like a budget option than the suite experience you'd expect. There’s also no complimentary water in the room, coffee setup is subpar, with only weak options and powdered half-and-half available. Breakfast is just ok, nothing spectacular, and just as suggestion, have coffee available at 530 so guests can get it and watch the sunrise !
We still love the beach and the atmosphere here, but it’s frustrating to see the service and attention to guest detail declining. Hopefully, management will address these issues soon, as we want to keep coming back to the Perdido Beach Resort we once knew and loved. It also seems they only respond to positive reviews, so if you’re not happy with your stay, don’t...
