My wife and I celebrated my birthday here last night while we were vacationing. I waited til the next morning to leave a review just in case I had a change of heart but I haven’t. For appetizer we had the fried green tomato crab stack which was amazing. It was so delicious packed with flavor and an amazing sauce. Would recommended 10/10. We ordered two cocktails while we waited on our salad of which I had a house old fashion. The old fashion was nearly water and had too many dashes of bitter in it. The ice cube was wrong as it was melting entirely too fast—to be a $16 cocktail you expect a little better.
We then had the Caesar salad which had phenomenal presentation. The dressing and the crunch was dialed in perfectly. Would reccomend 10/10. For our main entrees my wife had the Pasta Bolognese and I had the hanging tenderloin with bacon blue Mac. I’ve had a lot of variations of bolognese at this point and I will say the noodles are entirely too thick. Taste was mediocre at best so I would score it a 5/10. Per the recommendation of our waitress I had the 10oz hanging tenderloin over the filet because she talked me into it. I ordered it medium as I always do as well. This had to be the rarest steak I’ve ever cut into. I told the waitress that my wife and I aren’t complainers by any means and that we usually just eat it. However this steak was rare and the bacon blue Mac was overwhelming with the blue cheese. It was practically all I could taste. I told the waitress that the steak was undercooked and the Mac was not what I expected. There was never once a regard to comp the meal, offer something different, or even try to cook the steak more. NOTHING AT ALL was offered to us when I left over 8 oz of steak and the entire side of Mac uneaten.
I gave the restaurant opportunity to make it right in hopes I would be leaving a 5 star review this morning. I’m leaving the 2 star for food and service because the only thing making it a 2 star food experience was the appetizer and salad. I’m leaving a 2 star review for the service because of the lack of thought and execution of our waitress when presented with an issue. I left a 4 star review for the atmosphere as we had a great view out the window...
Read moreWe were booked for three nights at the Perdido Beach resort. And we read the reviews of others and made a special effort to reserve a place at Voyagers for our first night of dining. Regrettably, the dining experience was anything but good, and made us question whether the reviews that we read were even valid. Maybe they were artifacts created by a 'pump' service. Caveat emptor.
No restaurant should EVER serve their customers spoiled shrimp. Voyager did. Maybe they forgot to refrigerate. The shrimp also included the heads, which was more than a little discomforting. My daughter elected the stuffed chicken, which turned out to be wrapped in bacon, which she does not like nor accept, and had to peel off. And then the chicken was so dry it was almost like newspaper. She gave me a taste and I left most of my sample behind. She also had broccolini, which she said was old, chewy and anything but tender.
We thought we could at least depart with a good taste in the mouth by electing the peaches & cream dessert. Regrettably not so. The 'peach' was a rather dry cheesecake image creation (of a peach) with very little flavor. So even a decent dessert was denied to us.
We truly felt sorry for the server, and so we left him with a generous gratuity. I trust that our generosity was not interpreted by the kitchen as a compliment. We did tell the server about the spoiled shrimp and I assume that the restaurant received the message. We did not get any feedback from the kitchen, either then or later.
The executive chef (Brody Olive?) needs to go back to school. No dining customer should ever suffer any one of the caveats we encountered, much less three. Our evening was a total waste of $250.
I recommend to all future diners who are looking for a fine dining experience to totally avoid Voyagers and instead go across the street to the Louisiana Lagniappe, as we did the next night. Had we known not to trust the Voyager reviews , we would have done better that first night elsewhere, maybe even at a...
Read moreVoyagers was a great date night dining experience while in Orange Beach / Gulf Shores area.
Reservations- while it didn’t seem 100% full, I’d recommend making reservations if you can online. We were able to request a table by the window in the notes section which they were able to accommodate for us.
Parking - if you are not at this resort, they have complementary parking (so just bring a few bucks if you want to tip the guys parking your car).
Oysters - we got half a dozen as an appetizer, and you can mix and match if you want to try multiple flavors. We got the garlic, the Rockefeller, and the Frenchie. All were good, but we liked the garlic one the best.
Wedge salad - we asked to share this and to our surprise, they pre split it. And it was plenty for both of us to have some salad. Delicious!
Filet Mignon - we got it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. It had a perfect amount of salt and if you dipped it in the melted butter it was even juicier.
Gulf grouper - still very good, but overall this was probably our least favorite thing we got tonight (but that probably speaks more to the other things than it does this dish). It was a good option if you want something seafood. The corn that came with it was delicious.
Blue Cheese Mac- we had plenty of food so probably didn’t need to order this. It was good, but if you actually get a salad or oysters then you may not need a side with your steak. It was basically blue cheese version of Mac and cheese with spiral noodles.
Drinks - I got the Pineapple Mescal Sour and my wife got the old fashioned. Both were great.
Service - Craig did an awesome job. He was funny and helpful (clarifying things that customers tended to get confused about or that he thought was helpful). Also at the end of our meal they brought us 2 chocolate covered strawberries.
Overall, I’d recommend Voyagers to anyone coming to orange beach / gulf...
