Louisiana Lagniappe has long been a favorite of ours. We’ve dined here many times and always appreciated not just the delicious food, but the elegant, elevated atmosphere that typically accompanies it. Unfortunately, this recent visit did not live up to those standards.
While the food was, as always, exceptional; consistently flavorful and well-executed. However, the ambiance left much to be desired. The dining room was so noisy it felt more like a cafeteria than the fine dining experience we’ve come to expect at this price point.
We asked our server’s assistant about the music, and he agreed it was odd that none was playing. He said he would speak to the manager. We watched as he did, only to see her glance over, roll her eyes, and return to setting a table. When he returned, he informed us that she was busy and would get to it when she could.
After sitting through the harsh clatter of dishes and the loud whirl of the daiquiri machine for a while longer, we felt compelled to ask again. My wife went to the hostess stand to speak with the manager directly. Unfortunately, she was met with more dismissiveness. The manager informed her that the music was already on, and turning it up wouldn’t make a difference because “people would just talk louder.” She claimed there were over 250 people in the restaurant, but at 7 PM, it was far from full. The attached videos show both the sparse crowd and the near-total absence of music, even in the lobby.
I have an auditory processing disorder, and loud, inconsistent background noise like clattering dishes and loud machinery is especially difficult for me. We chose Louisiana Lagniappe specifically because it has historically offered a calm, elegant environment. That expectation was not met, and it was disappointing. We hope this feedback is taken seriously. The food remains outstanding, but the atmosphere and the dismissive response to a very real concern left us questioning whether this is still the experience we’ve...
Read moreI had no intention of writing a negative review, but after the pure unprofessionalism of the general manager - I feel our experience should be shared. I have been a patron of this restaurant since 1999 when it opened, but I’m not sure it will make it much longer if the manager continues to harass guests, taking up for her inappropriate employee. After a very rude interaction from our initial waitress, Rena, and voicing to the hostesses our desire for a different server, we were thankfully provided service by Austin. He was very kind and considerate. It’s a shame that the General Manager would not offer an apology for the pure rudeness of our initial server. To provide background - we were seated by the hostess who placed the sling for our baby carrier at our table. I simply placed our baby carrier in the sling which was placed specifically by the hostess. Rena arrived at our table, rudely complaining about the location of our baby’s carrier. We stated that we didn’t choose the location of it at the table - the hostess did. Rena then continued to speak negatively of the hostesses. After much pushing, we moved the sling and carrier which woke our baby and caused for an entirely different dining experience. She eventually threw her hands up and walked away from our table in the middle of us trying to talk to her. We are EXTREMELY disappointed in the rudeness of both Rena and the General Manager. If you want to be specific about the placement of slings or high chairs - train your hostesses, if you want to bombard your customers into feeling like an inconvenience- pick a different industry. It’s not about needing to move the sling - it’s about how she went about it! The amount of money we have spent at this restaurant of the years is pretty significant, and that will...
Read moreFor everything that was really amazing about this restaurant (the location, the kindness of our server, some of the food), there were a couple things that really tampered with the experience. For one, we made a reservation for 6:45. We arrived early, and they did not seat us until 7:15 even though tables were sitting there empty. It took someone from our party going back to the hostess and explaining the situation for us to be seated. It was truly strange. Once we were seated, we were seated in an area that was freezing. We watched several people move seats to get away from the cold. On the bright side, our server brought a couple of shawls to our table for us to wrap up in. But be aware that if you visit, you will need a jacket. Service was slow, but everyone moved as quickly as possible, so there are no complaints there. Just be aware that if you eat dinner here, it will likely be over a two hour experience. The food was very good, but you can get similar food for slightly cheaper elsewhere. If you’re expecting big, bold Louisiana flavors, this isn’t it. Expect more rich and decadent foods, but not extremely flavorful. That being said, their appetizers and starters are amazing. If you order from the bar, also be aware that their drinks typically do not have very much alcohol in it. It’s perfect if you’re driving home, so we liked this. But if you prefer stronger drinks, you’ll have to be more selective with what you order. Something we found incredibly odd is they automatically charged our card for the 20% tip. We didn’t have a large party, and we’re not sure if this is restaurant-wide. We would’ve tipped that anyway, but it was strange nonetheless. Be aware of this going in. Overall, with everything considered, I would say this was a mediocre...
