This hotel is in a great location in Pasadena. It was easy walkable to lots of restaurants and shopping. We also walked to Old Town (about a 40 minute walk). I also really liked the lively lobby and the lovely decor. The courtyard is quiet and a nice place to gather. The hotel bar was also nice. That being said, here's why I'm uncertain if we would stay here again. As other people have mentioned, the rooms are extremely small. These are New York style hotel rooms and so space is at a premium and you need to stay organized. I would not recommend this hotel for any more than two people in a standard room. I originally booked a corner street facing room thinking we would have a view of the street from two angles. Although it was a corner room only one of the window was accessible as the other window was above the bed. The main issue with our street view was the overnight noise. At 4am we were woken up to someone screaming and using revolting language. At 4:30am there was the noise of someone throwing heavy objects into a truck. This went on for 30 more minutes. We changed to a pool facing room for the rest of our stay and it was much quieter. I highly recommend a room facing the pool to avoid the street noise. One thing we both liked was the shower. There was excellent water pressure and the water got really hot. The bath robes and hotel toiletries were also very nice.||This is also the first time I've ever stayed at a hotel that doesn't offer complementary coffee to guests either in the room or in the lobby. The hotel does charge an additional mandatory daily fee in addition to the room charge (resort fee). The fee is for the pool, phone usage for local and long distance calls, and wifi. Most people have cell phones so I don't know who benefits from this extra charge and it seems odd to charge an additional fee to use the pool. I probably wouldn't have cared as much if it at least included coffee and so we feel that we got at least some benefit from the additional hotel charge. There were lots of places near by to buy coffee and I eventually realized that they also sell coffee at the lobby bar (Philz coffee shop nearby was some of the best coffee I've ever had it was definitely worth the long line-up - it's also inside a beautiful courtyard). ||For the most part, I found most of staff to be professional and friendly.||This is definitely one of the hotels I'm not sure I'd stay at again but all in all it's not a bad hotel so long as you know what to...
Read moreHotel: This establishment is still under development and should be a nice addition to Old Town Pasadena, CA! New suites are being added and a cozy rooftop oasis with pool as well. The room service from their in house Constance Perry restaurant was great. The menu is limited which wasn't a surprise for a hotel restaurant, but the chef was more than accommodating with additional requests. Although the rooms were on the smaller size, the modern approach was a nice touch. Absolutely comfortable to say the least. Amenities seemed endless.
Staff: Staff was friendly, kind, and accommodating ... aside from one rouge front desk supervisor named Tray. He was unprofesssional from the moment we met, and I still question how he obtained that position of authority. Scenario: Even though a corporate card was already on file, he asked for an additional card to be placed on file for possible incidentals. I told him that there was already a corporate card on file for room service. He insisted another form of payment be applied. He assured that no charges would be made to the travel debit card, but then tried to run the card for $250. Thankfully, my bank wouldn't authorize the charge on the travel debit card I gave him for security purposes. I asked why he tried to charge the card without my approval, and his response was "it's mandatory to preauthorize for incidentals"? Why did he lie to begin with? Again I asked to have the corporate credit card on file to be used for incidentals, and we assumed he complied. It got worse. Later that week, he incorrectly authorized 3 days of room service amost $300 to the same travel debit card that he tried to charge the incidentals to 3 days prior!! Why was that card still on file, and why is he still charging it?! I lost my cool and called the front desk only to speak to the culprit, Tray, who half listened and also placed me on a unannounced hold for an extended period of time. I had to go downstairs to try and resolve. Tray stood and stayed quiet while the assistant manager de-escalated the situation and tried to stop the funds, but it was too late. We had to wait 3-5 days for the charge to fall off, and be charged to the correct corporate card. Very inconvenient since this card was our only travel funds. His lack of professionalism and unapologetic attitude towards his constant obvious incompetence on numerous occasions is the reason for the deduction in stars. Hopefully during the development change, there will be a change in...
Read morePasadena Hotel and Pool was built in 1926 and considered a historical hotel. The hotel is centrally located in a shopping and dinning district which made it extremely convenient. First impression was that it was quite swanky with its modern design and exclusive club feel. The bar area was smaller, but it didn’t matter as there was plenty of tables and seating surrounding the bar. We appreciated that there were game boards on the tables as well as a foosball table. All of the staff at the bar were amazing! They were attentive and sweet. They made you feel welcomed and appreciated.
The things we loved about this hotel were the beds and the blankets. The blankets were actually warm, the beds and pillows were soft, yet supportive.
Now for the downside. There is no room or cleaning service. The hallway on our floor was narrow but, luckily we seldom ran into people. Our room was smaller than expected. There wasn’t even a dresser. The drawers we did find were shallow and can hold maybe one article of clothing or a few tiny trinkets. The bathroom shower was beautifully decorated, but a good amount of water leaks out during a shower. Lastly and the biggest issue of all were the thin walls! We heard several conversations, laughter, doors slamming, footsteps and one very pleasured woman. Try explaining that away to your daughter who wanted to know what was happening to this woman and why she was making such noises.
On our first night, we ordered food at the bar. We ordered their cheese plate, cheeseburger with a side of fries and Cajun fish tacos. We liked everything on the cheese plate, but how difficult it is to put together a cheese plate? The hamburger was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The highlight of this dish though were the fries. They were thick cut with a soft inside and crunchy outside. The fries were flavorful. The fish in the tacos were also perfectly cooked and the seasoning didn’t overpower the fish. The tortillas tasted fresh and had a really nice flavor. Everything else on this dish was subpar. The lime avocado crema just tasted of lime; hold the avocado and crema. The siracha drizzled over the tacos just tasted out of place. It would have been better if they made a siracha crema instead of the avocado.
Overall, I don’t think we would opt to stay at this hotel again. We paid roughly $410 for two nights. Based on the price, amenities and compared to other hotels, Pasadena Hotel and Pool just...
