First and last time in this restaurant. Such disrespectful staff working here. If you’re of a certain demographic expect your service to be less than respectful. The pretentiousness in a lot of Pasadena restaurants is at an all time high and I will continuously hold these establishments accountable. I don’t go out into the world looking to receive subpar service because of how others perceive me.
I walked into this place with much excitement because the pastries looked great. When I first walked in, I walked over to the coffee bar, the barista saw me walking up and just kept looking at the tv as if he couldn’t care less. I proceeded to ask if these were all the pastries they had left, he gave a slow turn as if he didn’t want to be bothered and just gave a lackluster head nod. Typically this type of behavior gets ignored because I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I proceeded to the other side of the restaurant where the registers were and asked the guy standing at the register what type of pies were in the case, he names two of the pies, mind you there were about 3 or 4 different pies or cake. Then the guy just walks away as if I wasn’t trying to purchase anything and doesn’t say a word. There’s one guy rolling silverware nearby just staring. Doesn’t ask if I need help or anything so I’m literally standing at the counter being stared at by the staff as if I am not welcomed in this restaurant. Then another young girl walks behind the counter, with me standing there, she doesn’t make eye contact just pretends no one’s standing there. Now all three employees are behind the counter and no one says a single thing to me while I’m standing there. I finally became irate and asked the guy “do I order here or near where the coffee is?”. He immediately hops on the register and goes “yeah you can order here”… I guess I was standing there just to look cute? Mind you this guy saw me the entire time and never said a “hey can I get you anything” just completely disrespectful.
I shouldn’t have spent a single dime in this restaurant. And it’s a shame because the cheesecake was...
Read moreWe’ve been trying this place since the opening last year, and in all fairness, our overall impression is that this place has just been getting better.
The croissants in the beginning phase was off in some aspects and the flavor was inconsistent (not enough salt, too buttery, etc) but in recent months, it’s been consistently good. And through it all, it always tasted very fresh. It looks like they bake in small batches.
Their coffee has always been so good. Typically bakery coffees don’t seem specialized but Oh La La’s coffee has always tasted so fresh and fragrant, skillfully prepared with care for quality.
I see that their food menu has also been updated and expanded and it looks like they update it periodically. We’d like to try their food next time.
We like their comfortable, neighborly vibe, spacious and open feeling without feeling too condensed or too fancy. It feels clean and well-curated for the comfortable and pleasant experience to spend time alone or with a group.
Their service has always been top notch, kind and attentive.
Our favorites are their plain/chocolate/ham and cheese with bechamel croissants and monkey bread. I also loved their choux with vanilla cream but I haven’t seen it in a while.
We didn’t have good experience with the almond croissant, it felt very dense and flat. There was plenty of almond paste though.
Overall, after observing for a while, we think they’re constantly assessing and making improvements and do care about the quality of products and services they offer. We find that impressive and worth supporting. Pastries can be hit or miss, but I appreciate they are attentive to feedback, take them professionally, and take measures to improve. We feel positive that Oh La La will continue to...
Read moreAfter reading about this new bakery on San Gabriel Yelp Elite posting, we decided to stop by Oh La La Bakery and Kitchen in Pasadena before our church on a Sunday. It’s clear that Pasadena is quickly becoming a croissant lover's paradise. This bakery, situated at 921 E. Colorado Boulevard, is a new addition to the scene and is making quite a name for itself. The mastermind behind this delightful establishment is Jean-Paul Veziano, a third-generation French baker, also known for owning Boulangerie Veziano in Antibes, France. He's joined by partners Maxence Bouvier and Thomas Kocer, who, with the backing of several investors, are keen on scaling up this venture.
When I visited on a Sunday morning before church, the place was buzzing with fans eagerly lining up to savor their scrumptious croissants and breakfast items. We tried a chocolate croissant, an almond croissant, and a croissant breakfast sandwich. Additionally, we indulged in a hot chocolate and a matcha latte. The croissants were a delight, and the breakfast sandwich was skillfully prepared. The drinks were excellent, but I found the hot chocolate to be a tad too sweet, as was the almond croissant. The latter had a soggy sauce inside, which didn't quite meet my expectations.
On the plus side, the service was impeccable, and the interior design was top-notch. However, parking proved to be a bit of a challenge, as it involved hunting for street parking with limited spots available. Overall, Oh La La Bakery and Kitchen is a promising addition to Pasadena's bakery scene, and I'll be keeping an eye on their future offerings as they...
