The University of the People began in 2009 with just 177 students, and today we are more than 150,000 strong. It is now accredited as one of the leading universities globally, recognized for using cutting-edge technology to deliver rigorous, accessible, and high-quality education. According to UNESCO, 91% of global universities have adopted online learning modalities, acknowledging their legitimacy and effectiveness (Hongsuchon et al., 2022). I am a scholarship student at the University of the People, and I study completely tuition-free. In my organic garden, I used to produce biofuel, biogas, and organic compost. I also built homemade incubators using cardboard to hatch native chicken eggs. I would place around five eggs under a hen and about fifteen in the incubator. Once hatched, I transferred the chicks to the mother so she could raise them. The chicks fed only on cracked corn and the warmth of their mother. The rooster played its role by protecting the chicks and helping the hen. These experiences taught me the vital importance of maternal and paternal warmth, the value of the family unit, and the profound intelligence and philosophy of nature. I believe even children are born with innate knowledge that must be nurtured and cultivated. To me, being innovative means learning from scientific sources, reading extensively from credible materials, and always listening to advice with a critical lens. Developing a critical mindset is essential for becoming not just better professionals, but better human beings. The University of the People has given me the opportunity to grow and improve through a rigorous and thought-provoking academic program. The institution evaluates my progress through an innovative virtual learning environment to ensure I achieve the expected outcomes. Throughout this process, I interact with people from around the world, benefiting from a peer evaluation model supported by current research. Recent studies show that the effectiveness of online education is closely linked to well-structured learning communities and the proper use of technological development (Meng et al., 2024). The peer-review model used at UoPeople is grounded in research showing that peer assessment fosters self-regulated learning through metacognitive strategies and critical reflection (Ortega-Ruipérez & Correa-Gorospe, 2024). This is the best university. I discovered it less than five years ago, and today—with over 150,000 students—it continues to grow, thanks to its robust technological platform. It is not only the first and only tuition-free university of its kind but also a model for sustainability, efficiency, and quality in global education. Access to quality education, supported by innovative instructional design and technology-enhanced learning resources, is essential for expanding opportunities. Access to education changes lives—and it is truly fundamental. References Hongsuchon, T., Emary, I. M. M. E., Hariguna, T., & Qhal, E. M. A. (2022).
