This is a great hotel for people that are not concerned with getting a good night a sleep. Make sure you read the fine print. I’m sure it’s there somewhere, but I couldn’t even find it on their website, even after our stay. We stayed in the “Big Jawn” room. I feel that the proprietors failed to adequately disclose that the room we rented has a subway train which is literally 10 feet from your bedroom window and runs most of the day and night. The train made both of our bedrooms shake, every ten minutes, almost all night long. We got woken up by speeding trains every night, all night long, during our stay. Nobody in our group got a good night sleep as a result. I feel that the owners mask this attribute in a way that is dishonest. To be fair the venue offered me a discount and recommended alternate places to stay, but we did not take advantage of either option. ||Security: there was no way to lock the door to our “Jawn” from the inside. No chain, no deadbolt. Just a key pad. Anyone from the company that rents this property, or anyone who knows my cell phone # (so literally ANYONE) can enter the building and then enter your bedroom while you are inside sleeping, showering, or whatever. This is a big problem in my opinion. We had a child with us and did not feel that they property was secure. I didn’t inspire my confidence or allow for a restful nights sleep. But the train, wouldn’t allow that anyway. ||I don’t need fancy accents. I need a good nights sleep in a room that is secure. We wished we had stayed somewhere else for...
Read moreThe great: Elegant and high-styled loft design. Really enjoyed the space. Black out and light filtering blinds offered nice privacy if not feeling the industrial view first thing in the morning. The neighborhood is edgy and flavorful, great eats nearby. Interesting and unusual view of the metal construction elevated train platform so if you want a more serene environment select the garden view. It’s well organized and host is quick to reply if questions arise. Spacious and efficient space. Lovely and thoughtful details.
The challenges for some: This is not an ideal spot if you're not comfortable using an iPad for software info/manuals and self-led information, or if you want to feel like you are in the heart of old world Philadelphia. I like to check out new neighborhoods every time I go, so it was a fun excursion, but if I was looking for the history of this wonderful city (if It was my first time here) I would not choose this location. The laminated directional signs feel home owner/Airbnb style versus a $300 a night hotel, but that’s a very small detail (I thought it brought the modern loft-feel and elegance down).
It’s clean and thoughtfully maintained. I could not have be happier when I opened the fridge and saw both almond and oat milk for my decaf coffee. That personalized detail really made a morning difference, in addition to spacious room with great design! I would return if I wanted to stay in this...
Read moreI stayed at the Lokal throughout my wedding weekend, and it was one of the best decisions I made. I booked the "Big Jawn" suite, and it was perfect for accommodating my bridal party, some family members, and the hair & make up teams. It has a large kitchen and living room space, beautifully decorated in a calming, modern minimalism vibe & stocked with quality essentials. There are two toilets/powder room, a large shower, three vanities with sinks (apart from the bathroom/powder room), two gorgeous bedrooms with comfortable bedding, & plenty of storage space (the one bedroom has a nice size bathtub). You also get a cool and unique view of the train & city (there are rooms away from the train but honestly, it really wasn't a problem). Plus, you're just walking distance from the train and can get into Center City in minutes. There's also a little courtyard attached/behind the hotel that you can hang out in (we used this location for bridal party pictures). All around it was very clean & comfortable. A couple things to keep in mind: (1) the suite itself is two floors and it also is about four-five flights up in the building with no elevator & (2) there is no parking lot/handicap parking/convenient parking in front of the building (from what I gathered). So, idling out front and bringing up your things (if you have a lot) may...
