Halcyon Floats is an incredible float tank facility! Whether you're looking for a true sensory deprivation tank experience or a simple place to sleep, meditate and relax, this is a great place to check out. The float tanks have different light and sound options for everything from a "sensory deprivation" experience to a starry night with relaxing music for meditation. Some more information below:
THE TEAM. I've talked to Keri, Chad, and Karl, and they are all lovely. They take such good care of you and make you feel at home. If every business was run by someone as giving and thoughtful as Keri, the world would be a better place. Ask Keri about some of the empirical data and science behind floating - she can tell you all about it!
THE ENVIRONMENT. Books, tea, yerba mate, snacks, dehumidifiers, cool artsy pieces, and silence... I tend to loiter and read after my floats, as I enjoy the environment quite a bit. It helps relax me before and after my float. I love the space, and it always seems to be getting better. They even have a curated shop in the front with different supplements and relaxants for sale that are worth a look.
THE FACILITY. The tanks are wonderful. The team keeps increasing their size, and it's easy to float without touching the sides. I like the open layout, as I am naturally somewhat claustrophobic, so it's easier to get into a bathtub that's open -- yet silent and dark, if desired -- than a traditional tank. I highly recommend it for beginners and pros alike!
What am I missing? I'm not sure there is anything else to say. A great float tank in Philly, a wonderfully attentive team, a relaxing environment, spacious/fully-equipped tanks, I'm not sure what else you could ask for. Whether you're looking for self-improvement, self-care, pain relief, meditation, magnesium therapy, or any other of the countless benefits of floating, I'd highly recommend Halcyon Floats! One float a day keeps the doctor away, right?
TLDR: I'd seriously recommend a float here, especially if you haven't had one before. You're in for relaxation and the best sleep of your life -- and, if you get hooked like I did, it really does help to give your body some rest and recovery from time to time.
Update: I also came in with a minor neck injury after the gym on my last visit. It made floating a tad more uncomfortable (I had to pose differently to relieve the pressure), but my neck healed 90% overnight and fully within 2 days. I believe there's literature about floating and pain relief, but I can definitely say that my neck healed lightning fast and the only treatment I really did aside from some stretching is floating...
Read moreHad a very bad experience personally. I went in and there was no one there. I wasn't sure if I was at the right spot because it's a sliver of a building. The layout is really weird in which the bathroom is across the hall (not ideal at all) and the shower is pitch black with this cheap kind of 2-in-1 body and hair wash that was gross.
What made it impossible to enjoy it was that my ears were waterlogged in the first 5 minutes. Additionally, they turn the lights out for you very quickly and I stood in a blacked out bath tub for 5 minutes clammoring around trying to find the light switch so I could crack the door a bit to let in some cool air since I was roasting. The door snaps back and doesn't crack unless you fling it wide open. Additionally they have an "intercom" in the tub but apparently it doesn't work because I tried using it several times... I gave some of this feedback to the clerk firsthand, but she was defensive. "The ear plugs are made for swimmers". Okay, I don't swim... "The instructions are right on the back". Okay then why would you put them in a pitch black part of the room (see shower comment above) if you expected people to use them.
I left after 5 minutes and was a salty mess with both ears waterlogged. Not going back there...
I'm not saying you can't have a good experience here, but my experience firsthand was really bad. It's definitely not a "spa" in any sense of the word but might be fine if you bring your own earplugs and do a deep discount package. I would strongly recommend FLOAT in Marlton, New Jersey. My problems with this float center were not problems at FLOAT in New Jersey. It's an extra 15 minutes from Philly, but totally worth it if you're going down through with these types...
Read moreI'm a former professional baseball player and current gym owner who has been using Halcyon Floats for the last 6.5 years. The reason why I've been floating for this long has been because of my experience I keep receiving at Halcyon Floats.
I have been to other float centers in the area but none have met the standards at Halyceon Floats.
At their new location in Fishtown, there is a lot more space to accommodate more guests comfortably and when you walk in, the tone is set for relaxation. They make the floating process simple, convenient and enjoyable.
Before the floating takes place they installed brand new showers right next to the float tanks. This makes showering before and after seamless and convenient.
During the float you have the option to listen to music, keep the light on, or just float in silence. The water temperature is always on point and your skin is always left feeling smooth.
After the float is over you get to come back upstairs and enjoy the relaxed environment as you reintegrate.
Keri and the staff at Halcyon are super knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating as well. If you're new to floating they will make sure that you are comfortable throughout the process, answering any questions you may have. They are always working on improving the customer experience and it shows. Keri the owner, really seems to care about her members because she's always asking me how the experience has been and ways to improve. What's cool is she actually listens and puts it in the place.
If it's your first time to floating or your 40th time to floating this is a great float center to find tune your practice and get the deep relaxation you're...
