After 39 stays (or 40?) in the past year alone, I feel more than qualified to continue giving Hotel Indigo Oakland a well-deserved 5-star review. I must name names, starting with the front of the house. Jacque, Rayana, Lauren, Clarie, and Max -- thank you all for always extending such a genuine warm welcome, and for reuniting hotel guests with their valuables! You all put the hospitality in hospitality! A special grand thank you again, Jacque, for calling me about my wallet found in the parking lot, which had fallen out of my bag as returned in a slumber after a long night at work. Also to the anonymous Indigo guest who found it and turned it in! Thank you Max for making sure I had a roof over my head when I needed it-- a very nice rooftop indeed, complete with bar and live music!
You won't find a harder working shuttle valet than Chris. He'll get you where you need to go and back, pointing out all the sights along the way. He knows it all, a true Pittsburgh native. He'll point you to the best cheesecake too!
The hotel lobby, common areas, and rooms are pristine, thanks to the efforts of the tireless housekeeping staff. After long days of travel every week, I can't tell you how much it means to come "home" to an immaculate room and comfortable bed. I'm sorry I don't know names to name, but you deserve so much recognition!
Jim and the other folks on the maintenance crew not only keep things in working order, but work with the design team to assemble the most amazing hotel holiday display! This year's roll-out is worth a stay even if just for fun! ... complete with the new pop-up bar.
Speaking of pop-up bar! Or tango anyone?! Jeremy, Andrea, Gerald -- the most perfect trifecta of bartenders and Eliza staff. Crafty pours and artisanal drinks, best old-fashioneds in the city, and best of besties all around. You are the faces and smiles I love seeing after long shifts. It's not what you pour but who you are that makes that my day (though the pour helps for sure)! You are so loved and appreciated. Kitchen staff is always serving up the best of dishes in taste and presentation -- yes, I still love the salmon! Sure wish we still had the guy that did the amazing Guinness stew, among other talents. And for those who have a hand in the day to day details of running a hotel and whose names I am unaware, thank you all so kindly. Well, I could go on and on. But I think you get the point if you've made it this in reading the review. I know you'll share the same affection for Hotel Indigo and its people whether you stay a night or a year. As they...
Read moreI know I used the suggested title for this review but it's also simply true. We were 15 minutes at most from everywhere we were looking to go while in Pittsburgh for the weekend. It was easy to pick up the highway or local roads or get into the city from this location. The hotel itself is very nice and I thought it reflected the area well with its decoration (although I'm only a visitor, so maybe others who grew up here or live here could say better).
Our room was right by the elevators but we rarely heard anyone in the hallway. Our bathroom was spotless, the shower was great, and water was quick to heat up. The bathroom door is one of those barn doors, but it was easy to open and close, and even had a soft close so it wouldn't slam shut. The area rug by the bed and dresser was a bit dirty (saw an old toenail clipping in it and hair, which is gross, but everything else was really clean, so we just avoided that spot and didn't walk barefoot). The bed was comfortable, sheets clean. I brought an extra blanket from home because I always freeze with hotel sheets/blankets. The second night we were there, there was some sort of DJ and event going on in the restaurant and we could hear them pretty clearly, but they were done before we went to sleep. The hotel also provided foam earplugs automatically, which I thought was a nice touch and not something I've seen before.
We had breakfast at the restaurant each day, and that was always good. They make a good breakfast sandwich on whatever kind of bread you want (toast, English muffin, croissant, bagel). (Otherwise we ate at the music festival we were at from whatever food trucks were there.) I forgot my purse at the restaurant the day we were leaving, but thankfully the server noticed and brought it to the front desk, along with my name and room number (she knew since we'd charged breakfast to the room). They kept it safe and returned it to me when I realized and asked about it. Every employee we interacted with was very kind, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Overall, it was a great experience, and we'll likely stay here again next time we're...
Read moreReview: Horrible Bedbug Infestation and Terrible Customer Service
We stayed at Hotel Indigo for a wedding in June, and it turned out to be an absolute nightmare. Initially, the staff seemed friendly, and the room was nicely decorated. However, the first morning we woke up itching. We thought there might be mosquitoes in the room and went about our day. By the second day, the itching was severe, far worse than typical mosquito bites. It wasn’t until we got home and showed the bite marks to a physician friend that we realized we had been bitten by bedbugs. The clustered bite patterns and sheer number of bites were indicative of a severe infestation.
We immediately put our bags into the bathtub and called the hotel for instructions. The hotel promised to call us back within 48 hours. They never did. I called them back three times over six days without any response. Finally, I spoke with Max Glazer, who spent more time trying to disprove our claims than offering any help or apologies. I sent him pictures of the bites, complete with date metadata, but he brushed us off and had me communicate with Patrick Wozniak, the General Manager. The communication with Patrick was even worse.
Patrick denied everything and sent us an inspection report stating that no evidence of bedbugs was found after a 15-minute inspection. There is no way a thorough inspection could be conducted in such a short time, especially not to determine if bedbugs were present the day before. Yet, he used this flimsy report to dismiss our complaint entirely.
Now, we are dealing with the fallout of this bedbug infestation in both our house and apartment. The experience has been a living hell, and we paid $700 for it. Hotel Indigo has not taken any responsibility for the infestation. They haven’t even offered to comp our room, help with the extermination costs, or provide a proper apology. This has been one of the worst customer service experiences of my life.
If you value your sanity and health, avoid this hotel at all costs.
PS: The ladies at the front desk were awesome though :-) Gotta give...
