Embassy Suites by Hilton Plainfield Indianapolis Airport — Hotel in Plainfield

The hotel itself is top of the line and extremely comfortable, however, the only staff available when we arrived checked my family in and was also our bartender. They told our family that it was complimentary drinks on beer and wine from 5:30-7:30. The bartender explained to us that we could NOT have liquor because he was not a bartender and did not know how to mix drinks. I told him that I am a current bartender and I could assist him on ingredients but he was firm on the beer and wine policy. My cousin and I sat at the bar and ordered 2 beers each and then tipped the staff member $27 and change after we were charged for a full drink because we did not have cash to tip him. $35 total was charged to my credit card for that transaction. He showed extreme gratitude and we left to go to the liquor store for alcohol and came back about an hour later and sat at the bar where there were now other patrons sitting there as well. My cousin and I ordered 2 more beers and sat there and began drinking them at the bar. The other patrons ordered rounds of vodka tonic next to us which made me realize that we were the only guest limited to beer and wine. At that time I requested for another drink ring up so that I could tip him again and be done with him. I couldn’t understand why he did not allow my family the same services that the other guest received and we were very nice to him and respectful. When I gave him the second tip he said “are you all done?? I really thought u all we’re gonna be drinking a lot more.” About 2-3 hours later I seen the bartender mopping the lobby and I stopped him and ask him why he did that and we were so nice to him. His response was I’m sorry I didn’t mean to. It made me feel like we were prejudged upon arrival. I continued my stay which was relaxing and I woke up a little late. I called the front desk to request a few minutes for a later checkout. The lady at the front desk said that I was not a Hilton honors member so she cannot grant my request. I then told her that I was and gave her my member number and she said, “oh well is 12 gonna be good enough?” I don’t feel like the staff was very nice but the hotel was. My family had 2 rooms there for 1 night and we left with no complaints and no damages so I can’t understand why we didn’t feel welcomed. Not sure if I’ll stay there again or not. Having tried others Embassy Suites in the Midwest (Indiana/Ohio/Illinois), I can easily affirm this is one truthfully the best of its kind. It is a well-appointed and conveniently located 4-starts hotel for business travelers. It deserves 4.5 stars review. More so, it could be higher.

PROS:

• The building is recently built with quality materials, including isolated rooms (walls and windows). Hence, you will NOT hear your neighbor's TV, conversations, traffic, etc.
• It offers a solid 4-starts breakfast with all you need to start your day actively (including omelettes of your choice or ready to go scramble eggs with bacon and potatoes).
• I've been there a few times and, for the most part, the front-desk staff is kind, competent, and welcoming.
• Both check-in and check-out processes are quick and smooth. All done by email (with automatic invoice/email the morning you check out). I've never had an issue about it.
• There is plenty of free/safe parking spaces.
• Prime location. That is, 10 minutes from Indy International Airport, 20 minutes drive to Indy downtown, and roughly 35/40 minutes drive to Carmel Arts District.
• Rooms are well appointed with 9 foot ceilings, quiet AC, modern kitchens, and large TVs both in the room and the living room areas.
• Reliable internet service for Zoom meetings. Just get the best available for a small fee upon check-in.

CONS:

• Costumer service at the restaurant is not truly the best. For instance, if you say good morning to the lady that prepare your omelettes, either she reply with a simple, "I am not ready yet," or you get just a cold shoulder. Not a big deal, though.
• Unusually, the toilet has no cover, which raises (among others) some cleaning concerns. Do they clean the bathroom's walls after every costumer?
• Some furniture inside the room (e.g., sofas) looks old and somehow reminds you that this is not a five stars hotel.
• It is, unfortunately, a COVID friendly environment. No one wears mask (Dec. 2021).

CONCLUSION: Considering price (Hilton Honors Program), location, rooms quality, amenities, and breakfast quality, I will certainly recommend this hotel - particularly for business travelers. The inconveniences you may encounter do not interfere with your ability to enjoy neither the room nor the hotel. Best place to stay for business in Indy.
