I booked 1 night at this property through Hotels a month ago. The Portland Inn, it was a weekend so most hotels were sold out plus the pictures on Google, Hotels, ETC. looked decent for a cheap place to stay… Located far outskirts of NE Portland, at Columbia Blvd and MLK. Near I-5, I-205 and PDX. Room 109… The door handle was broke leaving the door just wedged tight in its frame, only lockable with a flimsy deadbolt inside. The carpet (brown) turned black with dirt and at least 10+ years or repulsive stains. The walls were covered in dirt, blood, stains, holes and mold as well as crawling with little bugs. (The whole room had bugs) The A/C was completely stripped for it metal leaving the room exposed to the outside. The switch/light fixtures were all dangling or missing. One grim flickering light by the door with no lights for the room. Furniture came from a dumpster. The beds had stains and bugs. (I didn’t get close enough to see what else). Outside… Parking lot is tight, crowded, Covered in broken car window glass, not monitored by camera or management and crawling with sketchy people openly using needles and other drugs… At night 3 cars pulled up with 5 men who started smoking in the lot as 4 rough looking women went room to room and were even picked up by cars not staying at the motel. I checked in at 8:30 pm and asked for a refund at 8:35 pm. The guy working said to come back in the Morning to get a refund from the manager. I sat there in my car looking for other rooms till it got dark and the sketchiest-er people rolled through. Please see my picture’s and video of the room. DON’T STAY HERE!

If I could give it zero stars I would. It is filthy, in poor condition. When I arrived and opened the door the stink was so bad that I went across the street to get as many of the pine tree air fresheners that they had. I bought all 4 vanilla scented ones and that still didn't cover the smell. There was brown stuff that had dripped down all the walls and dried. I also bought a big container of Clorox disinfecting wipes and cleaned everything I would touch. NO smoke detector but there were wires hanging down where there was one. fixtures were broken and the tile in the bathroom had no grout which made it hard to walk on because you would stub your toe/foot on the uneven tile with no grout. I placed the bath mats and towels on the floor so I could walk on it. They couldn't even put a fitted sheet on the bed. It had a plastic sleeve on it (I was grateful for that) but then just a flat sheet tucked in. Good luck keeping that in place when your trying to sleep. The padded vinyl chair pushed up to the table had a HUGE hole in the seat where all the stuffing had been pulled out. ( I didn't get a pic ) . No drawer pull on the night stand. Broken faucet and light fixture. At one point when I was going to step outside to go to MacDonald's across the street, I opened the door and there was a car backed into the spot right in front of my door and there was a drug deal happening. They didn't even try to hide it. I just quietly closed the door and stayed inside. It was nothing short of scary .....

I would stay here again. Staff were great. Room was totally sufficient. Everything worked (ok, toilet seat was broken - but usable. Everything else worked fine, including wi-fi, which is really all I need, lol). Room itself was clean. Love the big trees in the parking lot. Lobby sells cup of noodles for a dollar. Convenience store & fast food across the street. Reasonably close to airport. Def not for everybody. Balconies are just a liiiittle bit wobbly. Exterior needs some work, including better trash management. Better to get two meals if you go across the street because you might run into somebody who really needs one on your way back. But everyone was nice, friendly and warm, from the really helpful manager who let me check the room before I booked it, to the fixit guy who had to do some magic on my lock to get it to work, to the Korean shopkeeper across the street, to the guys fixing cars in the parking lot late at night (they were quiet, also), to the mix of interesting guests. Even the ice machine worked. I got lots of work done. I feel I got a good deal & would def return. Mahalo.

The comforter was completely loaded with cigarette burn holes. The mattress was exposed- there was no mattress protector or fitted sheet, and the mattress itself was covered in yellow stains. There was no way I was going to sleep on that bed and risk the sheet getting pulled down too low, so my head was exposed to that filthy mattress.

The burn-hole filled comforter had a brown, fuzzy blanket underneath, which also had a burn hole, which makes me wonder if they washed the sheets, or if all of the blankets are ridden with cigarette burn holes. Even though we were in a non-smoking room, it reeked of cigarettes and urine, and even the walls had stains all over them of some sort.

My lamp wouldn't turn on, and the lamp on my husband's side continuously flickered. When I turned on the TV, it went out completely.

My husband began reading reviews here on Google, and when we saw complaints of bed bugs, he quickly began examining the mattress and sheets for them. He pulled out his pillow from the pillow case, and upon doing so, discovered a brownish-red liquid splattered all over it. Blood??? When red wine spills, it dries up a purple color. If there was a problem with bed bugs, that might explain the floor renovation, why the carpet was replaced with vinyl wood floors. Or, simply, if the previous carpet looked anything like the carpet in the hallways- completely stained and covered in goo, with only the edges showing what the original carpet looked like- that might be why it was replaced.

To the people who rated this hotel anything above 3 stars- you are TRULY doing a disservice to people who come onto this page to see what the motel is like. Rate it for what it actually is. Just because the staff was nice, doesn't mean this is a good place to stay. It's completely unsanitary, and according to others, dangerous.

My husband and I decided to flee the motel after being there for about 45 minutes. The smell was overwhelming, and the burn holes and multiple , unknown stains were unbearable. And the hotel staff wasn't THAT great. The man was there to do his job and he did it without an attitude. Also, even though the hotel is named after the Portland Expo Center, he didn't know what the parking was like there, or if it even...
