Omar’s Gyro — Restaurant in Portland

2024: still has authentic spices, but portions are smaller, prices higher, and service was surlier. The gyro has no discernible feta and very little veg. I’ll try somewhere new next time I’m in town.

2022: The food is really generous and the service friendly. Spices are generous and authentic - I rarely see sumac outside my kitchen. The hummus has plenty of tahini and the tzatziki is almost too rich.

Despite all that we debated between a 3 and 4 over some easily fixed issues. My mother got the charmingly baton-shaped falafel wrap, but it needed more evenly applied (or even simply more) sauce and veg. The genuinely huge "Big" falafal gyro is top loaded, which makes the last bites mostly bread if you don't rebalance it. The three meat plate is generous but the chicken is basically minced so there's no succulence.

I'd definitely eat here again, for the spices. A few modest tweaks and this could be...

I got the lamb Arabi, and my boyfriend got the triple meat gyro (we asked to add french fries to it). They were both outstanding- authentic flavors and excellent quality that reminded us of our trip to Greece a few years ago (even though this is Middle Eastern, close enough!). They should consider renaming this food truck to "Omar's Heavenly Gyro," because they really are incredible! We will be back, for sure! Thanks for the welcoming and friendly service as well. The Young Man helping us was polite and had good customer service, and we appreciated the gentleman cooking being so flexible with our order requests. Omar's is located in a really quaint food truck court with lots of excellent choices- something for everyone! Just be careful with parking. There's a tiny lot, so side-street might be worth...

It was over 100° Jordan. you can imagine it was a lot hotter inside of a food truck. Those poor dudes made your order and then held onto it for a while but, when you didn't show to pick it up for a long time they closed to get the hell out of the heat in that hot hot food truck.

I'm giving them five stars just for even being open in over 100° heat in the first place.

you know what, I've lived in this neighborhood for a couple decades and Omar's is the one food truck that's consistently open whike all the rest of them are closed at random hours
