I had a very frustrating experience with this red roof location. I booked from the 29th thru the 31st to stay, starting the night before, so I could check in early in the morning on the 30th, because i was on a roadtrip. When I arrived around 5 AM, there was no one in the lobby and there was a sign to ring a doorbell once for assistance, so i did, this guy with a braid and a beard came out from a hotel room half asleep asking what he could help us with and i told him i was checking in and he said “check in is from 3-4 so if you want me to check you in now there will be a 40 dollar charge” which i thought was weird because i’ve been to quite a lot of hotels and no matter what time im checking in if i already booked the night prior to me arriving they will check me in so the 40 dollar charge was unnecessary but we aren’t from here so we said whatever we will pay, and then he proceeds to say well i was just doing the nightly audit so i can only check you in at 6 am because the computers are down which was very obviously not the case because he was half asleep. Because of this, I had no choice but to leave and book another hotel. We were stranded out in the dark waiting till 6 am so we were absolutely not paying to stay there. Despite not staying, I was still charged $95.
This shows very poor customer service and a lack of professionalism. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and I am disputing the charge with my...
Read moreMy experience was a lot like what others are saying. It's not the best thing ever–it's a motel–but nothing about it is bad. The biggest thing is everything is clean, clean, CLEAN. Even though the blankets and towels might have the occasional small hole (smaller than a dime), they are all 100% clean so it's not a worry. The beds are nice and clean. The bathroom was gorgeous, that was a 10/10, it wouldn't be out of place at a fancy hotel. Hot water was always available, we were given fresh towels constantly, it has built in shampoo and lotion. It's a bit of a commute (20 minutes) if you're actually wanting to go to Portsmouth, that was probably the biggest draw back. The man at the front desk was nice and pretty easily accessible by phone. We also got a late checkout for $20. It's pretty clear the people that work here care about maximizing and maintaining the resources they have. The pool was out of service but personally I wasn't worried about that. The "breakfast" was pretty underwhelming, just bananas and yogurt and it also closes at 9am. The A/C worked but it had odd cycling patterns. Be prepared to have to deal with dogs barking (this was barely an issue for me but I did encounter it and I've read that it has been worse for others). This place is the king of 'good not great', but if there's one area where it's great, it's...
Read moreEven though I was skeptical with the ratings and stars, we had a pleasant stay here. The location was close to where we needed to be and even though it was an older building, you can't always judge a book by it's cover. They have been doing some updating which shows. I loved the fact that my pet could stay free of charge, and in case they made a "accident," it was easy to clean due to not having carpet like some older places. The only issue we had was that our initial key did not work to open the door, the desk clerk went to change the battery and didn't have the correct key to. Coming back to the room late after the manager got there to change it, it still didn't open. I asked for a new key and he did so and came to make sure it was working. If you have this issue, simply ask for a new key bc it was probably just not programmed correctly. Also housekeeping did not knock before opening our door. Thankfully I was sitting close and stopped it before she came in while my husband was dressing. I think she learned her lesson because the next few doors I heard her at, she made sure they knew she was there. :) I am still giving them 5 stars because overall it was not a lot of the reviews stated...
