Turnpike Motel — Hotel in Princeton

Checked in. Was assigned room #101. As soon as I entered the room I was overwhelmed with the smell of cigarette smoke. I returned to the office and reported it and asked for another room. The lady at the desk copped a defensive, argumentative attitude and said that it is a nonsmoking room and hasn’t been rented for five days. I told her it stinks of cigarette smoke. She was not happy that I wanted another room. She changed my room reluctantly. The problem is the room next to it is a smoking room. It permeates the paper thin walls. When a customer reserves a non smoking room they should not be subjected to a carcinogen polluted environment. Room 101 stinks. Her attitude is on par with the room. This woman is apparently referenced in more than one negative revue. If I were the owner I would look into it. You have my contact info if you care to discuss further. I have about had it with this property.

I have stayed a few nights at this property over the last three years. I am not as impressed as I initially was. Room 116

Pros; clean

Cons; Sink and tub take forever to drain.

Floor lamp beside the bed, no bulb.

One outlet in the bedroom to charge devices. This is the 21st century. They make lamps and other devices with AC outlets and USB charging ports. People travel, hence stay in motel rooms, with phones, iPads, computers, etc. Two people per room and one outlet doesn’t cut it.

AC unit does not have a fan constant on mode. Therefore you get to listen to the unit cycle on and off all night.

Road noise can be an issue.

Price has slowly creeped up to be equal to, or higher in some cases, than the big name chain hotels.

I think I will do some research before staying here again.

When you are booking the least expensive motel you can find that will accept pets, you cannot expect much. You hope it is clean inside. This place was spotless and did not smell of cigarettes, so 5 stars. The housekeepers are the best. Two double beds, night stand in between, flat screen on wall, small desk with lamp. Microwave and fridge. Everything worked. Bathtub not dingy but bright white. Free coffee, if you like that kind of thing-- I mean, c'mon, motel room coffee? This is the kind of place where cars are parked 6 feet from the rooms, but I didn't find it any noisier than any other hotel.

You can see that the owners have done some repairing or rebuilding. You can actually see the lumber they put in around the window frame and under the sink counter. But even the lumber is clean! And who cares? You can't see unless you pick up the curtains and look. The manager was a great guy, cheerful and helpful to the nth degree, and he sure puts in long hours to make this place work. I hope it does.

One wrinkle: I asked over the phone about pets but I was not given complete information. They do not want a pet over 20 lbs. When I showed up I wasn't charged but when he realized I had a 50 lb dog anyway the mgr. waived the $20 deposit and $10...

Even with a storm moving through prior to our arrival that shut down their booking system, they had my reservation and checked me in using paper system smoothly and efficiently with an added discount over online. The owners knew their community well with restaurant recommendations and even pointed us to a community track to get a run in. The rooms were very clean. Shower was hot with great water pressure. It is an older motel which to me is part of the charm. Newly remodeled room with modern bedspreads and pillow top mattress. I personally could have used one more blanket but I feel if I had asked that it would have been provided. I really liked that the air system was independent and on the back wall, plenty of cold ac without pulling any neighboring smoke and had a continuous fan option so sleep not disturbed by unfamiliar noise. I have allergies and did not have a trace of the cigarette if others smoked outside. Did not hear outside noise. Owners very reaponsive. Perfect spot to stop...
