I Met the Devil at Mitchie House
The African American female roommate is like a loose 'shemon' from the pits of hell. She watches everything I do and emulates me. Well, emulating something good is a great thing. I set good Christian values with decency and a great mannerism that can uplift any life. Anyway, one day, this female character started trash-talking me in the room we shared. She was loud as usual. According to her issues with me, I was acting like I was better than joining the free food line when she saw healthcare workers in the line receiving food. I am traveling to this state for work, and God has blessed me immensely, so I give and not take. Then she started bouncing me with her shoulder whenever we passed by each other in the kitchen and in the passageway. She then accused me of being the aggressor because that's who the police is going to detain, and according to her, the police captainis wants a... with her, so he'll listen to her. I had to ask the security to intervene and talk to her do ad to stop her aggression towards me from escalating. Next, in the bedroom we share, she constantly shouts when she's talking on her cellphone and turns her music volume up loudly. In the mornings, she would open up the 2 sides of the light blocking draperies so the sunlight shines directly into my face. Then she goes in and out of the room and slams the door when I'm reading or sleeping, but not when I'm changing my clothes. At that time, she opens up the door wide enough to expose me, then leaves it to slowly close. If that wasn't bad, on one occasion while her back was turned to me, her cellphone appeared to be recording me on my bed and every move I made. I was changing my clothes when I saw all my movements on her phone that was sitting on the shelf above her bed. I took a picture and made a small video as proof. Also, just so you know, my head is immediately beside the room door 🚪 so just imagine sleeping, and someone slams the door at your head. It's been a horrible experience sharing space with her. There have been lovely decent, peaceful, respectful women and decent university students who we have shared the same space in the past, and it was total respect and incident free. This is my first encounter sharing space with a subject of this kind. She has also made it clear that she hates Haitians, all immigrants, and LGBTQ, yet she's a security guard serving the public through Allied Security Services. This is just some of my many encounters with this subject. I will never knock down a recovering drug addict, but if this is what some of them are like, then that's the demon in itself rather than having the demons. The devil is real people, I've...
Read moreI recently stayed at Michie Hostel in Providence and had a mixed experience that, unfortunately, leaned more negative than positive. On arrival, the first thing I noticed was the extremely loud music coming from outside—it could be heard several blocks away. Thankfully, once inside the hostel, the soundproofing was surprisingly effective, and most outside noise was well mitigated.||Although the booking instructions stated there would be no host on-site, I was greeted by someone who introduced herself as the host. To her credit, she was warm and welcoming, gave me a quick tour of the space, and generously helped me connect my CPAP machine to the upper bunk—something I genuinely appreciated. It was also a nice touch that she made previously left-behind towels and bath products available for guests who might have forgotten essentials.||There were a few other things I appreciated about the hostel: it's a non-smoking property, it offers same-sex dorms which can be more comfortable for some travelers, and it accommodates late check-ins, which made my arrival smooth despite the hour. Email customer service was also extremely responsive, which helped with a few pre-arrival questions.||That said, there were several key issues. First, the listing did not mention that the sleeping arrangements included bunk beds—something that may matter to travelers with mobility or health considerations. The entry system relies entirely on a phone app, which I found glitchy and difficult to use at first. While I did eventually gain access, it was not a smooth start.||Most frustratingly, the host—despite identifying as an experienced hosteler—came into the room at 1:30 AM and played movies out loud as a way to fall asleep. While I understand using media as a sleep aid (I do the same), it felt extremely inconsiderate in a shared dorm setting to do so without headphones. My multiple polite requests to lower the volume were ignored, and the movies played on until my alarms went off at 6:30 AM, making for a nearly sleepless night.||In short, while the hostel has potential and some thoughtful features, the experience was ultimately disappointing due to poor communication, a lack of transparency in the listing, and inconsiderate behavior that significantly affected my ability to rest. I hope improvements are made for...

I booked Michie Hostel in Providence, RI for a week via Priceline at $30/night, looking for a budget stay. While I knew it was a mixed dorm, I didn’t expect to be the only man in a 6-bed room with 4 women (5 beds filled). When I arrived, there was a bra hanging on my assigned bed. After raising the issue, I was moved to another bed in the same room.
The bathrooms were a major concern — both were mixed-gender, lacked proper locks, and had blurred glass shower doors. It felt unsafe and uncomfortable to use them, and cleanliness was poor. Even one of the female guests questioned why a man was placed in the room.
The listing claimed “free parking,” but it’s an unsecured lot equivalent to street parking, with many homeless individuals walking around during the day. This area is known for car break-ins, and with no storage space in the room, I was worried about my belongings and vehicle.
Despite feeling unsafe and uncomfortable, the management refused to offer even a partial refund for the unused nights, insisting on sticking to their policy. Customer service was unhelpful, and the booking process was confusing — even when booking through Priceline or Booking.com, they redirect payments to the hostel directly.
I checked out within an hour of arriving and lost the full amount paid. In my opinion, this place is not safe, poorly maintained, and misleading in its “mixed dorm” description. If you value safety, privacy, and decent facilities, look elsewhere — even a slightly higher price will be worth avoiding this experience.
Suggestion to management - Please value customers concerns, if they are really feeling...
