Luxurious and Delightful I have not only stayed at Hummingbird House to test the amenities, but also enjoyed decorating this beautiful bed and breakfast. The owner gave me free reign to individually style all the rooms and he spared nothing in making them lovely. I was excited to choose a different color for every room and add high end accessories from Global Views, one of my all-time favorite vendors. In paying tribute to the history of the house, we mixed the old with new by blending antiques with traditional and contemporary furnishings. “Form” is easy because pretty abounds, but function was super important as well – who wants to sleep in a lumpy bed! The rooms are exceptionally quiet and have lots of creature comforts which were great fun to gather for guests. My specialty is floral design, so of course there are lots of plants and flowers. Fall and Christmas are my favorite indoor seasons, which means there will be lots of decorations to celebrate. (Spoiler alert – a Santa collection and Katherine’s Collection décor will abound.) I can’t say which room is my favorite because I am attached to them all, but Ida’s Drawing Room definitely calls to me. It is a wonderful place to relax, with books, puzzles, history, gorgeous decor, and comfort – a great place for tea or wine and conversation. And being a bit (ok... a lot) of a sweets person, the hospitality counter which serves Reiter’s delicious French pastries is the icing on the cake (pun intended :). I hope you will book a stay in this old Victorian which has been brought back to life and share your experience, while enjoying our quaint downtown and...
Read moreFive stars does not do Hummingbird house justice. This down to the bare wood, no-expese-spared restoration shows true dedication to maintaining the highest standards of building preservation. We stayed in the Black-Chinned En Suite which is upstairs with direct access to the balcony which provides views of Mt Lassen and the Sacramento River. Everything about our room was perfection from the plush towels in the bathroom to the comfy bed with soft linens. The decor was beautiful and furnishings first class with wood, glass and ceramic; no cheap plastic anywhere. The bathroom was compact but had a spacious shower with top quality fixtures and a lovely pebble floor. Attention to detail was evident in the vanity which appeared to be custom made to fit the space. Plenty of light and a wall mounted makeup mirror made morning "beautification :-)" pleasant. The Drawing Room common area was again beautifully decorated and exquisitely furnished. Comfy seating allowed us to sit and enjoy some interesting reading about hummingbirds and local history. I mentioned the balcony. This became a favorite place to relax when the weather cooled off in the evening. We sat out there well past dark and then again in the morning where we enjoyed house-provided coffee and lovely fresh pastries from the upscale pastry shop in town. With a location just off Main Street, finding a place for dinner became a choice of cuisine. We decide to go to Kaloca's Mexican Grill where we enjoyed an incredible meal. Everything was freshly made. If you go, be sure to save room for the flan! Altogether a...
Read moreThis is a beautiful old Victorian house that has been completely renovated to be the best of the past and the most elegant of the present. Many times when I have gone to a place after seeing beautiful pictures online, I am disappointed in the "in-person" experience. Well, the pictures of the Hummingbird House cannot capture the luxurious and elegant atmosphere.|Each room is decorated differently and has its own charm.|My sister came for a short visit (I am here for a longer stay) and we really enjoyed visiting in the parlor, and on the balcony. Every morning you will be able to sample the amazing pastries from Reiter's bakery which is just around the corner. The bakery makes small deliveries each morning and afternoon. |The Humminbird House is more like a small 5 star hotel, with nice cotton robes in the rooms, and fluffy white towels. The kitchenette is beautiful with a coffee maker, microwave and nice refrige. A bonus is that they also stock each room with silverware, plates and cups. |Every detail has been considered and this is really the nicest place I have...
