I had a reservation set up in Redwood Falls, MN, for a Chris Daughtry concert. Had scheduled room reservation through Priceline. Ratings for most of the hotels/ motels were about the same, so I went with the OYO hotel. Upon arrival, we pulled up to a hotel that looked like it was post-apocalyptic. Back door entrance hanging on hinges. Paint peeling and falling off the entire exterior and upon entering the lobby was greeted by a pleasant elderly lady with one tooth. Lobby is dark, and there are portable room dividers to keep you from getting around the lobby. Buckets in hallways catching water from the ceiling in several places and ceiling tiles falling out from water. Pictures on Priceline were quite adorable, newly remodeled, bright colors and modern furniture. Only two other cars parked outside on Saturday evening. Was registered by elderly lady who could not do anything at the desk. She had to contact her manager on the phone, and that person checked me in remotely. Was given a room in the back corner of the hotel next to the laundry/ housekeeping room. Stepped into the room after much difficulty with credit care like lock. Opened door and was struck with extremely foul odor of old cigarette smoke, body odor, and mold/mildew. Beds were made, but pillows covered in stains, so we checked the sheets closer and found dead bugs in the sheets, stuck on pubic hairs in the sheets and literal dirt chunks in sheets when sheets pulled back. Attempted to open the fridge, and it was stuck closed with dried food and debris. Drawers on TV stand full of trash and items from previous visitors. Dust was so thick on top of everything that no telling how long it hadn't been cleaned. TOE NAIL CLIPPINGSall over the floor. My son turned on TV and was immediately overwhelmed by multiple offers for corn movies with elicit pictures to view. The rooms were set up with old, stinky wall to wall carpet, air conditioner so loud that my son and i had to turn it off to be able to hear each other speak. Walls had some unidentifiable substance that was sticky all around the head of the bed. Window in room, on first floor did not lock. The bathroom was the cleanest part, but there were several hairs in the sink. We were there for approximately 5 minutes, and I went back to the front desk and explained to elderly lady what we were upset with. She just stood there dumb founded until she called the lady manager back on the phone that had checked us in. She offered to have elderly lady go clean room again or just change the sheets. They stated that since we had booked with a third party , there was nothing that they could do. Then the lady on the phone said that she would have the other manager call us back. Packed our things back in the car and waited at least 30 minutes for that gentleman to call us back. The manager told us that there was nothing they could do. Offered to move us to a different room. If they can't clean the one next to the housekeeping room, how would they have any of the other rooms clean either. Then the manager started to gaslight me by telling me no one else has any complaints and making it my fault that they gave me the wrong room. He proceeded to raise his voice, and I did likewise. He attempted to talk down to me and accuse me of calling him ridiculous when I told him his rooms were ridiculous. The manager then threatened me, "as I have your debit card number," and I lost it and started screaming at him, and I told him I was going to report him to better business bureau. Staff continued to refuse me any type of partial or total refund. I then ended the call with the manager. I later went to check his comments on this site, and you can blatantly see that he is adding his own 10 out of 10 scores to up his approval numbers. Most of them, the dumb ass put the same name under it. "Campbell" Manager was completely rude and unprofessional and was yelling that I am unprofessional for complaining that someone else's PUBIC hair was...
Read more0 stars; they should not be open to the public. First, we called to make a reservation several months ago; confirmation email never came through so we had to call a second time, got the email thought we were good. Got to the hotel and had to wait in line more than 20 minutes just to get to the desk. They couldn't find the reservation. Apparently, the system we got the confirmation email from was linked to the prior ownership; ownership that changed hands more than 6 months before we made the reservation and they weren't going to honor it (ownership that is still showing online as active) They finally found a room after we had been there about 2 hours; we would have left except the next nearest hotel was more than 30 minutes away and we didn't think we should be on the roads that late at night. While we were waiting, almost everyone that had gone through the process of checking in (had to go through both people at the desk) came back: key cards didn't work, rooms weren't ready/made up; room under construction you name it. So the people at the desk left to do housekeeping or figure out key cards. Plus the woman's pre-teen son was interrupting as she's trying to listen to guests. Finally, somebody sort of figured out the system, we were charged a rate $40 more than the confirmation email (would have booked elsewhere months ago if knew that was the case) and we were led to a room... 'employee only' area...debris on the floor, next to the laundry, and the key card system in pieces but it only took 5 minutes and a couple different keys tries to get in. Supposedly it was the only/last room and he made it sound like he was doing us a favor since we didn't have the current ownership confirmation. Dropped our stuff off and went to our show. Came back and couldn't get in the room. After three different key tries, the same front desk woman tried for 5-10 minutes to break in to the room. Then she called the maintenance guy...he tried for quite awhile, even checked to see if the window had been left unlocked. After about 20 minutes he said he had a room we could wait in, get some sleep; some people had never checked in. The room we went to was clean enough, but there were weird stains on the tub, cigarette burn in the comforter, etc. Finally, at about 2:15 in the morning he knocked on the door to say we could get our stuff (so over an hour) and he had to drill into the door to get in. To top it off, we went to check out in the morning; the same woman was at the desk, her kid was still trying to get her attention, and she said she had never put us in the system the night before. Would not recommend to anyone; hope I never have reason to stay...
Read moreI checked in on August 6th and out on August 9th, it was absolutely the worst hotel experience of my life, and I say that as a former travel agent who now spends about 50% of my time on the road staying in hotels. There was literally a hole in my wall exposed to the outside.
Here are all my issues in point form The air conditioner worked, but had a big gaping hole on either side that is fully exposed to the outside. They claimed to resolve this by stuffing a tiny bit of insulation in the hole. All this did was block out about 50% of the light that came through, none of the smell and noise. The room smelled like a sewer. There were heavy rains that had caused the town to smell bad and, since I had a hole in my wall, so did my room. For some of my stay my room was unbearably loud as people partied in the parking lot and a tractor pull was held across the street and… I had a hole in my wall! Halfway through my stay the air conditioner starts leaking all over the floor and carpet. Never resolved. The lights didn’t work other than the washroom, this took about 24 hours to resolve There were no toiletries, not even hand soap. This took over 24 hours to resolve. The halls were filthy, covered in straw and leaves from outside, this was not cleaned during my stay The parking lot was filthy, garbage strewn everywhere, this was not cleaned during my stay Various hotel employees pounded on my door even when the do not disturb sign was up
Through all of this I never got one apology, in fact I was laughed at at one point when I complained. I checked out a day early (gave them more than 24 hours notice) and they gave me a receipt for the shorter stay. They then charged my card for the full stay. After receiving my statement and seeing what was done I call the hotel repeatedly and got no response from them. After trying for five days I finally speak to the only helpful person I encountered there. He managed to find all my documentation and confirmed I had been overcharged but he was unable to resolve it as he was new, hadn’t been fully trained, and hadn’t had proper assistance from other staff in days and didn’t know when he next would.
The only positive part of the experience is that I called Choice Hotels (the parent company) and they quickly resolved this and promised to mail me a cheque and follow up...
