Super 8 Richmond — Hotel in Richmond

This place needs to no longer exist as a lodging option as it is unsafe and not viable. I grew up staying in Super 8s as we would travel across the country from Colorado to Michigan, but this location was unlike anything I had ever seen. High (actually low) lights:

Doors to the outside unlocked A thick, concerning smell of mildew throughout the building Visible mildew spots on the wallpaper at various heights Buckled wall-paper from water damage Mildew in shower grout / caulking Flickering flourescent bathroom light Dilapidated pool And for the kicker: BEDBUGS! (in one of two rooms)

One pair of our four person group was able to move to another room, only to find bedbugs there as well (possibly rode on their clothes, but who knows). The staff said that they were aware of the problem and had been trying to get rid of them (a monumental task) and in response, gave us half off the affected room and didn't charge us for the second night despite the non-refundable booking.

The staff were helpful, but this place is not safe, let along comfortable. Please do not stay here and Super 8, please do not keep this location...

Can I give this zero stars? This is hands down the worst experience I've ever had in any hotel/motel. I wish I had read the reviews ahead of time but I've stayed in many Super 8's before and never had an issue. The rooms smelled like smoke even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room. The beds were not comfortable, very cheap mattresses. The towels had HOLES in them! There were bugs in the bedroom. And the hot water took 15 minutes to get from the other end of the building down to our room (we were for-warned of this by the desk clerk). The entire building is in serious need of upgrade and upkeep. The grass wasn't even mowed. Painting, carpeting, doors, locks, etc. etc. etc. I honestly don't know how the state or county inspectors allow this place to stay open. I've never felt compelled to write a hotel review before, but this place is just horrible. I wouldn't stay here...

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Booked room here last year based on the pictures on the super8 website. These pictures must have been from when it was remodeled in the 80s. I pulled in and the place was deserted, I actually thought it was closed! Walked into the room and it reeked of mold and must! The bed was definitely old and uncomfortable. There was no way I would've been able to stay 3 days here. And the worst part of the entire stay: bed bugs! Yes, I started getting very itchy all along my side a couple of days later, and about a week after, I had about 30-40 small bug bites all along the side I sleep on, legs, arms, etc. Never again! They need to bulldoze this place to the ground. The only reason for the 1 star is the lady at the front counter was sweet and helpful....
