We stayed here for four nights while visiting family for a memorial service in Rocky Mount. This is an older property with 3 stories of rooms with exterior entry rooms. The exterior trim of the main building had recently been painted which gave the property a clean look. It is very reasonably priced and located right in the middle of Rocky Mount, across the street from the Golden East Crossing Mall and a few blocks from a large Walmart, so certainly convenient to stores/restaurants. We wanted a ground floor room, but they didn't have any with the king-size bed, so we accepted a 2nd floor room overlooking the pool.||The room/bed was fine and, since it was hot and humid, we ran the in-room A/C unit almost constantly - fortunately it was quiet. Besides the bed, there was only a single office-style rolling chair to sit on, but we requested a 2nd chair of any type (even a simple plastic chair would have sufficed) and they got Maintenance to deliver us a 2nd rolling chair. Overall, the room was a good size, clean, and quiet, with minimal noise from the pool (which looked clean and very inviting in the heat) - several families with kids used it during our visit. One quibble is that the room was sort of a pain to access with luggage. The hotel building is in a V-shape, with a single, older elevator in the middle and two exterior stairways at either end of the building. We generally parked near the main entrance, and relied on the elevator to go up/down, but it was a bit of a nuisance constantly waiting for a slow elevator to traverse one level. Rolling our luggage up and down was not easy as the exterior corridors were barely wide enough to pass the luggage cart they had.||The lobby was a good size and the front desk people were cheerful and helpful. After 10 PM they lock the front lobby and you have to deal with a younger fellow behind a security night-window. He seemed newer, less comfortable with English, and had to defer a couple of our questions to one of the day clerks he had on speed dial. Housekeeping was a little uneven because of the motel's layout and single elevator access. The presumption seemed to be that you would not get your room cleaned unless you specifically requested it. For our 4-night stay, we only had the room serviced one day and went down to the lobby on the other days to exchange towels, which worked out OK. The breakfast was average with cereal, oatmeal, waffles, yogurt, and microwaveable sausage biscuits and egg/cheese biscuits, plus beverages. It seemed, during our stay, there were a number of work crews staying there and they generally cleared out of the breakfast area after about 8 AM. Hence, it was not...
Read moreIF ONLY I WAS ALLOWED TO GIVE A LOWER RATING, I DEFINITELY WOULD GIVE THIS HOTEL A NEGATIVE 5!!
I contacted the hotel and was provided a reasonable price so I booked a room. A few days later, I decided to contact the hotel and schedule for an additional night. I spoke with HEATHER (Asst. Manager) and she stated the price was not accurate and informed me that she would not accept the price. I informed her that I had received a confirmation number and that was definitely not the way to conduct business. After I provided HEATHER (Asst. Manager) with my confirmation information, she stated that I was being hostile and she would be cancelling my reservation. WHAT!! Once again I informed HEATHER (Asst. Manager) that she was completely out of line and I wanted to speak with the manager. At this point, HEATHER (Asst. Manager) informed me that RUSTY (Manager) was not present and she had no idea of when he would be back in the office. I asked HEATHER (Asst. Manager) if there was someone else that I could speak with concerning the poor customer service that I was receiving. HEATHER (Asst. Manager) HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME!! I immediately called back to the hotel and asked HEATHER (Asst. Manager) why did she hang up on me? Once again, HEATHER (Asst. Manager) hung up the phone. I attempted three more times to contact the hotel but she refused to answer. I then contacted Choice Hotels and filed a report on the service that I received from the hotel. I was still very confused as to why I was being treated the way that I was so I contacted the hotel once again from a different number. I did speak with HEATHER (Asst. Manager) and she stated that she would not accept the price that was given to me because I was quoted the wrong price. She further stated that the hotel could get a lot more for that room because there was a baseball tournament in town for the weekend so she would be sending me a cancellation confirmation and giving the room to someone else. ONCE AGAIN HEATHER (Asst. Manager) HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME!! I have never been treated this way by a business and I will never stay in another CHOICE HOTEL because of this experience. I will continue to pursue this matter because bad customer service should not be tolerated. Especially by an individual in management. I kept the confirmation information for legal reasons because this will definitely not be the end of...
Read moreBooked a Disable room. Asked for the first floor disabled person room. Got there early.2:45.Asked to check in. All of a sudden they have no rooms for disabled on first floor. Or any first floor rooms.Fine, second floor was ok because there was an elevator. Then after 2 days, the elevator was not able to be used. My son has physical disabilities. He can not use stairs easily and has fallen on stairs several times which is why I asked for a first floor room. Left for the day and called at 11:30 to see if a first floor was available because he told me the elevator couldn't be used while we were out.My son has had 3 strokes,2 were major. The girl at the desk, named Ruby, very nice, said come at 12:30 and one should be ready and that maintenance could help us move him, since I am a Senior in my mid 70's. Got there, the "manager" came out and she said there were no rooms on the first floor and that we needed to check out since my son complained about the TV and WiFi. IOW she lied that there were no rooms on the first floor. PURE DISCRIMINATION against my disabled son, from booking to leaving. The staff was very nice, maids,Ruby at the desk, maintenance men as well. The "manager" lacked customer service skills and right out lied to us.No empathy at all for my sons condition. I had been in customer service management jobs for 30 yrs.She puts a huge stain on the hotel and the other staff.|We then went to a different hotel, were treated totally different, with dignity and respect and cheerful staff. Disabled people should not be treated this way. It is discrimination. I was told, by the "manager" that no matter what you " book" you get what you get when you check in and that there is no guarantee you get the room you book,so what is the point of booking a disabled person room,or any room needed? Had I known this,I would never have booked there. As a family who's husband/ father served in the military,we are appalled that this hotel not only brags about preference for military, but also how well they treat disabled people ...SHAME! Thank you to the rest of the staff who were great. Problem is/was...
