We had a quick one-night stay with two young kids on a family vacation trip before Christmas. Overall, this is a mediocre property with some subpar things we didn’t expect that I will explain, set up expectations before you book here.||||Location and Parking||The hotel is right off the SLC airport with many different hotels in the same a couple of blocks, so there are many choices if you just need a quick stay. The hotel does provide free airport shuttle service, which would be convenient although we didn’t have the need of it. The parking lot in front of the building has plenty of spaces.||||Facility and Room||According to some sources, this property was built in 2009 and there has not been any major renovation since then. We normally choose newer properties for obvious reasons, but since this is just one night stay, not a big deal. The common areas seemed to be maintained in good condition.||||The room is larger than a standard hotel room (since it is considered and called “suite”) with separate sitting area and sofa, it is good for our kids so they don’t have to sit in the bed all the time like in the normal hotel rooms. The weird part for the room (not sure if all rooms in this property are like that) is it has smaller than normal toilet and bath tub. The toilet is more like the kids toilet in preschool or kindergarten (if you have kids in that age you would know), small and low. The bath tub is about half of the size of a normal bath tub (both length and width), we are normal height and weight adults and we just could not turn around without touching the shower curtain or the wall, even my 11 years old son couldn’t turn around. The toilet and shower are in separate tiny rooms and all these are definitely designed that way. Not a huge deal for us for one night stay, but if you need to stay longer or have special needs make sure to set up your expectation before booking here.||||Hot Breakfast||Hot breakfast is definitely a plus when you have young kids, so you don’t need to look for breakfast every morning. This hotel is supposed to have the very simple “hot breakfast” that Mariott properties normally offer at this hotel’s tier level, however this is another subpar area comparing with other same tier level Marriott properties. ||||The morning we were there before Christmas it pretty much ran out of most of the things or say it simply didn’t plan/want to refill most of the things. For the 3 hot items (regardless of what they were supposed to be) were mostly empty, other items were either empty shelf or only very few items left. Coffee and hot water were at the last cup or empty. The service lady didn’t show up most of the time we were there. We didn’t both to ask the front desk, again not a big deal for one night stay.||||Also Springhill properties do not provide coffee/water in the lobby other than during the breakfast time, which was a surprise from the last Springhill property we stayed, so we kind expected that at this property. That might be how Marriott wants you to remember and distinguish between each product, other Marriott products seem all provide hot coffee and water in the lobby throughout the day. ||||Staff||We only encountered front desk staffs for the quick one night stay and they would greet you when you pass by, and there would be just one staff there. For the breakfast service staff, she didn’t show up most of the time, and it might not be her fault, and it might just be how the hotel scheduled/planned. ||||Overall||For a one-night stay off the airport, we didn’t need much of the services, but with the subpar areas such as the toilet/shower tub and breakfast, we will choose somewhere else next time in the area. There are many choices within a...
Read moreI had planned on giving this hotel 5 stars, but a seriously horrible experience with one front desk clerk makes me want to give it one star! My husband and I are here for work and have been here for 5 nights and still have a couple more to go. So far, we’ve been getting coffee at the desk every morning. This first three clerks we’ve interacted with were fantastic! Super sweet, friendly, and always helpful. The forth, DENISE, is a nightmare! I met her when I got something to drink when I woke up in the middle of the night thirsty, and again when I went to the front desk for coffee. It was an hour before they start serving complimentary coffee, so I asked for everything to make it in the room for myself and my husband. I specially asked for 10 sugar packs, as I’ve done every time I got coffee for our room (every day), and this woman downright refused to give them to me, informing me that I’m only allowed two sugar packs per cup. I was confused! I told her I had no problem getting what I asked for any other time. She got very angry with me about this. She finally and reluctantly, after rolling her eyes several times and stopping herself halfway through what was starting to sound like a threat about what she would do if she got in trouble, gave me 4 packs per cup, but said that was all she could give. Keep in mind, this is complimentary coffee and condiments! About an hour later, we waited in the lobby with about 30 other people for our shuttle. Most were wearing mask but not all. I pulled mine down to sip my coffee but mostly kept it up. She went out of her way, twice to tell me to put my mask on, actually coming from behind the counter and walking over to me the second time and making some extremely rude and obnoxious comments to me in the process. Not once did we witness her treating anyone else the way she was treating me the entire time we were waiting. The people we were chatting with witnessed all of this as well. I spoke with Whitney (who is one of the super sweet employees we had interacted with previously) about all of it and she seemed as surprised as the other people that witnessed it or that we told about it. Several others also told us that they got coffee while waiting and she had no problem handing out 7 and 8 packs of sugar to them. Whitney explained that they were running short on sugar, which is fine, but Denise never mentioned it. And she rolled her eyes, huffed and puffed, because I asked for the cups with lids, not the smaller cups that the lids don’t fit on. I don’t know why this woman singled me out the way she did, but it’s not okay! She turned what had been a perfectly blissful hotel stay in a WTH just...
Read moreHotel staff notified me at check in that housekeeping is currently not servicing rooms regularly. It was also prominently posted in several areas of the hotel. They stated that if you would like housekeeping, you must request it the day before. This was perfect for me because I never utilize housekeeping services and I always post the Do Not Disturb door hanger. It’s just my personal preference and I’ve always done this. The first 2 days however, housekeeping entered my room and serviced it while I was out. I most definitely did not request it. While I was very frustrated b/c this was specifically mentioned and posted, it was still not that big of a deal. I asked hotel staff for a Do Not Disturb door hanger and was told not only do they not have/use them, but confidently told that I “will not be disturbed anyway, unless requested”. I explained that despite what I was being told and what was posted, it had already happened twice without my request and against my wishes. Rather than just apologizing and correcting the behavior, the clerk tried to spin it as a favor to me. It was not a favor to me. I don’t want other people in my hotel room unless it’s absolutely necessary (repairs, maintenance, emergency, etc.). Again, this has always been my personal preference. By now, I was growing annoyed and more frustrated but was assured that it wouldn’t happen again unless requested. Then, on the 4th day, it happened AGAIN. It only seemed to happen while I was out too. At that point, I no longer trusted hotel staff, and definitely didn’t want to stay there any longer. This might seem like a small issue but for me it was a deal breaker. This was the hotel’s policy, that they went out of their way to make sure I understood and yet, continued to violate it. I’ll never stay at a Springhill Suites again. Unrelated to this issue, there was still food in the refrigerator from the previous guest. I had no intention of using the refrigerator but still gross and potentially dangerous in these...
