If I could give this review NO-STARS, I would have. When I booked this trip, I believed the photos I saw on their website. I was duped. I originally reserved a Non-Smoking room with two double beds for me and my elderly mother to attend a funeral. When we arrived late in the evening, it was not as presented. They gave us a SMOKING room with a single king bed. The moment you open the door, you could smell the stale cigarettes and tell the room had not been cleaned. There was debris on the carpet, dust on the furniture, dirty towels on the carpet floor, and visible debris on the bathroom floor. I even tried turning on the hairdryer and it burned out in my hand, sparks and all. The bedding looked like it hadn't been washed. It had dirt/oil stains and what appeared to be blood stains. The closet rack was hanging half off the wall and the iron was missing. There were exposed wires from the missing smoke alarm and thermostat, peeling wallpaper and even loose outlets. I immediately went to speak with the front desk who said they didn’t have a double bed, non-smoking room on the first floor available, but would switch us to another room as soon as it became available. In the meantime, they would have housekeeping go immediately to clean the room. Needless to say, they never had another room to move us too the entire 5 days we were there.
Housekeeping arrives and begins cleaning. As she's there working as fast and as hard as she can, she mentions she is only allotted 10 minutes in each room to clean per management. During normal circumstances 10 minutes isn't enough to clean a bedroom, let alone during COVID times to clean and sanitize both the room and bathroom. As she began to replace the bed linens, she apologizes for the stained covers and explains that they have asked the higher ups to replace them for months but have yet to received anything. We couldn't even get a clean top cover, she had to bring us a double bed cover.
I spoke with the General Manager, Latasha, the next morning, who assured me we would have better service and experience moving forward. Well it didn't last long. We asked for clean towels and it took over 4 hours to get. As I was walking back to the room, I noticed the guest ice machine looking filthy. When I looked in, there was mold growing inside the crate. GROSS!!! Oh, I forgot to mention, there were cockroaches spotted in the bathroom.
Mind you they had just had a snowstorm and according to them and my family in the area, it didn't do as much harm other than limit toilet paper, slowed the water pressure, and closed some roads in the area. I went to the store-bought cleaning supplies and cleaned the room myself. Housekeeping never showed up again in the remaining 4 days we were there. Even when I called and asked for it. The trash piled up in the room because there was no where to dispose of it. So I bought kitchen bags to compartmentalize it. They said because of COVID, housekeeping wasn't allowed to clean the room. You would think, that's the one time you want to make sure each room is sanitized and extra clean for guest. Not at this La Quinta. I paid good money for my room. I feel like it was the old bait and switch pulled.
I contacted the corporate office who took my report and photos for my complaint. They said the GM would contact me within 10 days. Well, that never happened. On the 11th day, I received an email from the corporate office offering me reward points. Do you honestly think I want points to stay with them again? I never even received a call from the GM. When I tried calling her, I got the run around. Now corporate wants a copy of my banking statement to see what other consolation prize they want to offer me. They could easily pull the bill from their system to see what was paid, but instead want me to do their work. It RIDICULOUS!!!
If I were you, I wouldn't stay at the La Quinta Inn San...
Read moreI have traversed these wide and winding roads of a 300 year old country, and never have I had account to test my spirit in such a dwelling as this locale. On this eve in January of 2021, I felt my joints ache from the cramped space of my motor vehicle and upon reflecting on the few and low digits detailing my bank account balance, I was very happy to find such an affordable price for one night stay. I obtained a writ from a website which allowed me to check in to my abode for the night.
Upon arriving, I witnessed countless other humble travelers hovering over the darkness, lights from their cigarettes (i assume such an innocent vice) dimpled the canvas of the night sky as an omen I should have recognized. Alas, I continued through the stickiness of the grounds, received my room, and promptly returned to the office to obtain a new key because it did not work.
This shirt walk gave me the opportunity to notice that two fire extinguishers were missing from the property. The man in the office at least acted surprised by this information. Upon finally entering my room, i was greater by the odor of a must, smoke, old wet rug, and a hint of stale urine. This is my interpretation of the smell, though it was not intense enough to kill my desire to not sleep in such a fine establishment as my car in a rest area, though now I believe it would have been more worth the money than this room.
On the full body mirror, I was able to see myself through the eyes of another, wearing their make-up which had been left in smudges. The carpet, just as tinged with stains as with dye, was enough to make one feel the need to be clean one's self. Upon reaching the sink, I realized there was no soap. Not hands soap, face soap, body soap, all in one soap, shampoo, nor conditioner. Of course, who uses those latter two without needing 5 bottles each. I immediately looked for the phone and found it was not plugged in, which of course was of no issue for the simple fact that the buttons did not work. Imagine standing in a room on a disconnected phone, recreating the scene from the waterboy.
I walked down to the front office and was kindly informed that they had no soap. This was of course the final straw, or should have been. I saw the Denny's next door and bought a chocolate lava cake and iced cream to soothe my nerves and returned to my room. I lay gently atop the sheets of my bed to sleep, with all of the lights turned on. Though I was provided a wooden stick in my room placed next to the television for ease of access, i was still discomforted by the risk of a fire breaking out and me with a smoke detector removed from the wall and placed in the closet. The exposed wires under the curtains were also a thing worth nervousness, so I thought I ought stay safe and sleep unencumbered by darkness or the two layers of sheets. I awoke 8 hours later, rested and cold.
I would say this place gives credence to the old adage "you get what you pay for", but not two nights before I found a place before which at least provided soap and blankets for the same price. This iteration of La Quinta seems the slumlord version of motels in this price range. I will never again be able to touch my shoes with wreckless abandon without the memory of where they have been through at La Quinta Inn by Wyndham San...
Read morePlease avoid going to this motel if you can. My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights here, and it was not the most pleasant experience.
On our first day here, the lady at the front desk informed us that the room we paid for was unavailable and that we had to choose between a 2 double bed room with a roll-in shower or a king bed room with no roll-in shower. This wasn't such a big deal for us, so we chose the former, believing that everything beyond this point would be smooth sailing. We were wrong. Our shower did not have any hot water, a basic necessity that every motel room should provide. My boyfriend went to the front desk to get the situation fixed, and we were provided a card to a different room that did have hot water. At one point that day, my boyfriend asked if we could migrate from room 104, the room without hot water, to room 259, the room with hot water, so that we could sleep in a room that had a shower with hot water. The lady said that we would have to pay to move to that room. Yikes.
The next day, we wanted to take a shower, but when we used our card to open room 259, it did not work. A weird and annoying quirk about this motel is that when your room card is in close proximity to any smartphones, it will deactivate, and you will have to get it fixed at the front desk for the card to function again. We went to the front desk to have our card fixed, and the blonde lady at the desk told us that she would open the door, but we would not be able to have the card freely, that we would have to go to the front desk to use it. In the afternoon, we asked again if we could migrate from room 104 to room 259. The man beside the lady said that the room would not be cleaned if we wanted to migrate to that room and that it was "... our call..." to move to that room. The room was already clean, so we chose to move to the room, and the lady made an obtuse face that screamed, "Sure thing, idiots." Unfortunately, we found out that our new room's electricity was not working in several places. My boyfriend and I were deeply upset at this point. He went outside and spoke to the lady who was passing by, and explained that our room's electricity was not working. She spoke with a grotesque attitude and said it was "our fault" for moving rooms and walked away. After talking to the man at the front desk, we were able to get the motel's electrician to fix the power in our room; however, the fridge was not working. We asked the electrician to switch our fridge for a new one, and he did, but that one didn't work either. At this point, my boyfriend was at his limit, and he wanted to go home. He spoke to the electrician again, and the electrician brought us the fridge from our original room which worked.
The following day, we woke up to the delightful gift of cockroaches on our desk and a man begin arrested by police officers just a bit away from our room. Additionally, the blankets had lovely cigarette holes about it that we both adored. Yikes.
By the grace of the universe, if you're planning to get a motel in San Antonio, please do not pay to stay at this one. There are...
