-Here is everything that you need to know-||||PROS:||(1) Perfect for people going to Air Force BMT graduation who are on a tight budget. We spent less than $275 for Wed-to-Sat (3 nights). We missed the Wednesday morning ceremonies, but I'm sure the price for Tues-to-Fri is not much different.||(2) This hotel is about 1/3 mile from the base's main entrance (Luke Gate). It's actually walking distance if you're fit and used to walking, but not for most of us. We didn't walk. But it is definitely walkable (we saw people doing it). The close proximity was a major draw for us since we didn't want to have to drive 25 minutes to get to base from one of the downtown hotels (and spend an extra $65/night for the privilege of doing it).||(3) Ice cold air conditioning unit. And I mean ICE COLD! It was in the 90s during our 3 days there in early April.||(4) If you decide to do what we did and do Wed-Sat you'll want to rent a vehicle because you'll get Friday to yourself (your Airman will be leaving for tech school on Friday and you won't see him/her). We used Friday to go to the FREE Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio. An incredible adventure! We also did the Alamo and the Riverwalk with our Airman on Thursday after his graduation.||(5) Typical continental breakfast is available, and one of the waffle makers makes waffles in the shape of the state of Texas (cute).||||CONS: You get what you pay for!||(1) The room was clean enough with typical two-use soaps & shampoo, but the room smelled slightly of previous smokers (I got used to the stale smell, but my wife did not and insisted on having the AC on for ventilation).||(2) Remember what I said about the AC unit...well, it's also a CON because they only provide a sheet and a light blanket (understandably because it's Texas and it gets HOT). But during the night I was always cold whenever the AC was turned on.||(3) While the room is clean enough, the hotel's exterior is grimy. There are no working ice machines. The parking lot is full of potholes and strewn with loose trash (including a pair of dirty black underwear that sat next to a parking block right next to the check-in office all three days we were there). There are homeless people living in the culvert between the two La Quinta buildings, but you likely won't even notice them unless you walk around the hotel's compound looking for a working ice machine (like I did).||(4) There are, what appears to be, some permanent residents living in the hotel. Some appear to be older prior military men as well as local workers and their families. They utilize the pool in the late evenings after work. If you are prejudiced against Mexicans and Spanish-speaking people, you might find this place unsuitable for you (please note: this CON is more about YOU than the facility if this is an issue for you).||(5) Oh...one more thing. You will hear Reveille being played from the base at 5:30am to wake you up (that's how close you are). But you're going to want to get up anyway because you need to get on base for your Airman's ceremonies early anyway. You'll also hear a bugle call at 5:30pm along with the national anthem to signal the end of the work day.||||In conclusion, our stay at this particular La Quinta served its purpose as expected (inexpensive and close to base). We weren't chilling in the room most of the time anyway so it was only an inexpensive place to lay our heads at night. Most of our time was spent out and about on the base for the ceremonies and in San Antonio experiencing the city. If that is your aim, then this place will...
Read moreI stayed at the San Antonio La Quinta Lackland on 7/18/25 and 7/19/25. Upon checking in, I was assigned room 105. Upon entering the room, it was very obvious that the room was unacceptable. The ceiling molding was coming off the wall with a large gap in the filler between the molding and the ceiling. In the bathroom, there were two wall tiles coming off the wall. Also, there were mold stains in the grout. There was a large paint bubble (2”x3”) on the door of the closet. The floor was in need of sweeping due to a lot of small particles over the surface of the floor. The door was missing a seal at the bottom as there was a 12” to 18” gap between the floor and the bottom of the door. When I tried to exit the room to go to the office to complain I was unable to open the door. After a couple of minutes of trying, I was finally able to open the door by using a great deal of downward pressure on the door handle. I then was unable to close the door behind me because the deadbolt was extended and would not retract. I spoke with the desk clerk, who apologized and assigned me the room next door (Rm 104). This room was cleaner and in better condition. However, the springs in the bed creaked loudly when sitting or lying down on the bed. That night, we discovered the blind was tearing along its edges and had numerous small holes in it, including one which was about 3/4’ x 1”. ||Friday morning, we had put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. We left the room and removed the Do Not Disturb sign at about 10:30 AM. When we returned to the room around 3 o’clock (plus or minus 15 minutes) we saw the room had not been cleaned, beds were not made, and no clean towels were left for us. My wife spoke with the desk clerk and was informed that the room would be cleaned and made up right away. We left at 4:30 PM to attend our niece’s wedding. When we returned at 11:00 PM, the room had not been touched and was in the same state that we had left in 6.5 hours earlier. ||When I checked out the morning of the 19th, I requested a refund. The woman I spoke to told me that she could not do this, and you, the manager, were the only one who could and you would not be in until Monday morning. Furthermore, she told me that she would document all of these issues and inform the manager of my request. I called 3 times on Monday morning before somebody answered the phone. I was told the manager was not there, and this person gave the manager's email address. Lastly the parking had a lot of large and...
Read moreUpon arrival at your hotel, I was initially accommodated in a two-bed room, as per my request. However, the room reeked of cigar smoke to such an extent that I, an asthmatic, could barely tolerate it for two minutes without wheezing. I immediately returned to the front desk to request a room change. The same staff member who had initially assisted me came to the room, confirmed the strong odor, and subsequently moved me to another room.
Unfortunately, the second room was also unsatisfactory. While the cigarette smell was less intense, the room was in a state of disrepair: the door latch was missing, the paint was uneven, the bathtub drain was worn, and there was a purple stain on one of the blankets, along with brown stains on the wall and bathtub. Despite these issues, I decided to stay, as my reservation was only for two nights and I did not want to be overly demanding.
My stay was further disrupted by several alarming incidents. At 12:30 a.m., someone banged persistently on my door for approximately ten minutes. The peephole was clouded, making it impossible to see who was outside. After this disturbance, I finally fell asleep around 2:00 a.m., only to be awakened again by screams from downstairs, followed shortly by more screams. Concerned for my safety, I waited an hour and then spoke with a staff member who dismissed my concerns, assuring me the hotel was safe.
Feeling unsafe, I informed the staff member of my intention to leave and find alternative accommodation. I was told that because I had prepaid for two nights, I would need to wait until 9:00 a.m. to speak with the manager regarding a refund. After waiting several more hours, I spoke with the manager who informed me that, due to my booking through a third-party website, she could not directly issue a refund. I then had to contact the third-party company and facilitate a conversation between them and the manager.
While the staff members I interacted with were generally friendly and helpful, the condition of the rooms and the disturbances I experienced made my stay completely unacceptable. As a retired veteran, I had hoped that this hotel, located near a base, would provide a comfortable stay. However, this was not the case, and I will not be booking at this location again.
