I read about the staff before going in, and that still didn't do them justice. Whatever you do to keep your staff so amazing, keep it up! Every single person there was so alert to you, and made you feel like you were so welcomed. That alone was worth it.
I will say though, I'm not sure what a "deluxe room" is and thought "well I'll figure it out when I get there" and I still have no clue what it is. Our room was no different than the other ones we passed, but we paid extra for it. We didn't have a view (a tree covered our whole window) and there was nothing special in the room. So keep that in mind if you are tossing between the two like we did.
Also we had to pay 12 dollars a night for parking which wasn't that great. It's not in a garage or anything, and when we went back to our car it was covered in tree debris and bird poop. (all the parking near the building was taken) Also wasn't too fond of the idea that our parking spaces were next to the "golf course," one wrong swing and a golf ball would be sitting in my car.
That being said the hotel itself is obviously getting dated. There were cosmetic issues all over, and the hotel itself felt a lot like a, dare I say, retirement home. My major issue was the lack of sound proof in our room. We were by the pool and could hear people talking all weekend, anyone in the hall was heard clear as day, and the doors really like to slam shut very loudly. During our stay someone was letting their kid play in the hall and we could hear them the entire time, they were nice so we didn't mind it but I could see that aggravating someone else. I kept the AC Fan on just to have noise in the room, but you could still hear these people outside.
The shuttle was extremely nice and the reason we chose to stay here. You simply just need to plan ahead to get it scheduled. The only issue we had was that we couldn't schedule a RETURN trip. The first time to Sea World was fine, but the second time we got stuck at the Zoo and were told to take an Uber. Which was overall fine since we just ubered to downtown instead and stayed there all night. (Ubers are cheap from this hotel we only paid around 10 dollars to get anywhere) Traffic in the area also wasn't too bad all day, so you could easily drive. Ocean Beach is literally a 10 minute drive away and you don't even need to hit any highways to get there. They only have one shuttle that runs all the trips and obviously the airport is their priority. Most flights are coming mondays for example, so don't expect to come home on the shuttle that day. It was a little shocking to be at the zoo and being told "call an uber." Luckily our phones were not dead and we could.
We also decided to eat at the location at the hotel. Again staff was great, food was good, but we paid 50 dollars for two plates. That's why we didn't go back to it.
Overall the staff is friggin amazing, seriously cannot say that enough. However if I had to make one suggestion it would be to sound proof the rooms, if they fixed just that I think I'd for sure make it my go to hotel. All the cosmetic stuff can be ignored after that.
Pros : Staff, Pool (big), Jacuzzi, Bed was comfy, resort style hotel, bar, gift shop (best one we have seen) , shuttle if you can get it scheduled.
Cons: Loud Rooms, Parking fee, Need to travel to get places, a single elevator area, hotel itself feels dated, "deluxe room" really...
Read moreThis motel, because that is exactly what it is, a motel masquerading as a hotel. This place screams cutting corners in every way possible yet charge people top dollar to stay here. Where do I begin, let’s start with the terrible service. Apparently they only offer service for house keeping every other day. First time I’ve ever heard of this in a hotel, let alone a hotel people are paying $179 or more dollars a night. They do every other day which makes it very confusing to know what day is your next day, also they sometimes don’t show up on your day. Or they can show up anytime from 8am to 5pm a very wide window. Seems to me they are understaffed and trying to cut corners with hiring less people to work, and having clean less days. But this is at the cost of the customer. What are people paying for if they can’t at least get house keeping. Next, the food and drinks options at the front desk. The most extreme price gouging I’ve ever seen at a hotel. A bottle of Aquafina water for $4.50 is insane, you can buy a pack of 30 Aquafina waters for that price. Same goes for everything else on food and drink bar. Frozen meals for $10-$15 dollars. It’s ridiculous and I can’t imagine they sell very much with those prices. Also, the restaurant that’s apart of the hotel, is extremely overpriced and plain not good for the prices it charges. The first time I stayed here I got a 6 piece buffalo wing, I didn’t know it was just 6 pieces at the time, but it cost 15 dollars, and we’re not anything worth writing home to. Also the restaurant has weird hours, only open for a few hours for breakfast now, I recalled it was open longer then first time I stayed here. Another corner cut at the expensive of the customers. The location of this hotel isn’t the best, if you want something near by to eat and you only can walk you will be walking at least 15 minutes to find something. It would be nice if they had a restaurant that was reasonably price and a snack bar that was reasonably priced, for those that want something close by. Same with the cafe, I have literally never seen it open before. Also, the golf course, I don’t golf but I do find it odd that it’s closed and has always been close anything I come here. Next the rooms, very low lights, doesn’t have any lights on the ceiling and only rely on a few yellow light lambs around the room that barely lights the whole room. Refrigerators that are clearly cheap, I have had food spoil several times because of the refrigerator over icing and they just kept swapping them out. They did not reimburse me for the hundred plus dollars worth of food I lost. Lastly the thing that really made me upset and finally willing to write this review, I found a cockroach in my room. Never seen a cockroach in a hotel, but I have seen them in motels, like Super 8. But for this price people are paying to stay here it’s crazy.
Edit: They also have messed up fire system that constantly goes off with false alarms. I also got a random automatic wake up call that I didn’t ask for and was told it was a system error.
The only reason I stay here is because my company has a contract with them, but I will be requesting to go to the downtown locations for now on. I couldn’t imagine spending money to stay...
Read moreI stayed here for 2 weeks recently and just wasn’t that pleased with my stay.
Room was fairly large and clean. Some items I noticed in the room - light in hall was broken, another light bulb was broken in the larger lamp behind the chair. The tub also would not hold water for a bath when I attempted.
Housekeeping was actually better on the weekend than during the week. You only get housekeeping every 2 days and in addition they don’t come until late in the day, I’m talking after 3PM. So I’d get back and my room wasn’t clean and I had to put my DND sign on because I was staying in. The housekeeper during the weekend came at around 11:30-12 and took only a short time to give me towels and take my trash.
The TV in the room was great as it offered Netflix, Prime Video and other streaming services - however it stopped working by the weekend and gave an error. I reached out to the front desk multiple times only to be told that they needed to wait for the IT company to get back to them. So I wouldn’t depend on the streaming working on those TV’s. Internet was a highlight as it was faster than some hotels I’ve stayed in.
The hotel is fairly large and did have a lot of seating and tables which was nice. I did notice staining on the ceiling and some popcorn ceiling fell down at one point that I had noticed. They also had plastic wrap over the sun windows on the ceiling as well.
The entire time I was there, portions of the front were being renovated and they also had one elevator broken the entirety of my stay.
The restaurant/bar was a highlight as they offered decent food at decent prices. A little higher than a chain but still somewhat reasonable. They also offered happy hour for alcoholic beverages which was nice.
The breakfast in the morning was overpriced and not worth it. I went down to check it out and they had 2 tiers. $12 for “continental” breakfast which was bagels, oatmeal and yogurt… but $20 for hot food such as eggs, bacon and potatoes. I can’t imagine someone paying $20 per person every day during a stay. The value to cost ratio doesn’t make sense.. it should be cheaper or included.
I also had issue with the coffee.. they have a cafe downstairs with smaller breakfast items.. again.. overpriced. You could also only get 1 cup of coffee free per room.. and on top of that they never had creamer the entire time. Only milk and honey. Once they started to renovate that area.. they put coffee by the front desk… which is where it should stay. If you want to offer specialty coffee - offer that at the cafe, but leave the regular coffee outside of the cafe like other hotels.
My last issue was with billing. I completed a tax exempt form and gave it to them about halfway through my stay. Instead of applying to my whole stay they only applied to part of my stay so I now have to wait for the accounting folks to fix it. I’ve never had an issue like this before where front desk couldn’t go back and remove taxes from prior days in a stay.
I don’t typically stay for this long in hotels but there are definitely some things this location should work on. Other Four Points locations in San Diego have been better experiences for me...
