TLDR: DON’T STAY HERE Edit: It’s laughable getting so many notifications of how many people view/agree with our review. 😂 Our experience of King George was terrible. I specifically booked a superior suite because we are traveling with the toddler. We knew this was an antique hotel and we needed a room that was large enough to set up her travel bed. The room we received was not at all the rooms pictured on King George’s website or Expedia or Priceline, so please beware of booking the superior suites because they are not at all the room pictured. Immediately upon seeing the room, I went downstairs to try and resolve the issue with the front desk that we were not getting the room that we paid for booked and the room that was pictured. The manager on duty, Indy, immediately became combative and basically held us hostage in the lobby for two hours, as we tried to explain that we wanted to check out and get a different hotel because the room that they put us in was not acceptable because it was not the type of room that we booked. He was belligerent, argumentative, and untrustworthy throughout the whole process. We had to speak to Expedia five different times to try again to get this resolved. Basically, even though he acknowledged that the room they tried to put us in was not the one pictured, he refused to refund us the full amount. He spite charged us for a night, so we were forced to stay the night and try and look for a hotel for the remaining five days of our trip. The entire two hours he spent arguing with us, our three year-old was patiently waiting after a. long day of driving. Watching and waiting were also twenty guests who he neglected to help check in or give them assistance as he was arguing with us. He raised his voice at us several times, refused to give us the name of the general manager so that we could speak with them about our experience. The room was filthy, the carpets were stained and looks like they hadn’t been vacuumed or cleaned in some time. There were food stains B running down the wallpaper in the restroom, and the wallpaper was peeling from the wall. The bedspread had brown stains all over it Worse of all, after the whole travel day and hours arguing with Indy, we realized that our hotel room had no hot water. We let the water run for 10 minutes and at best it was a cold lukewarm and there was not enough pressure to take a shower. I’ve stayed at the King George hotel before, many years ago, and got great service there. That’s why I wanted to book this hotel room again and I was very very disturbed and disappointed at how far it’s fallen in terms of customer service. I really really caution anyone who is considering staying here to reconsider, especially if you’re interested in booking a larger room. You will not get what’s pictured or what you paid for, and the hotel policy is to charge you no matter what.

The desk receptionist is quite welcoming to arrange the room for me and take note on my preference to have hotel room away from the lift. I was given a room at the end of the corridor near the exit staircase. When I first arrived there is some maintenance work going at around 4pm but after I call in to the desk staff they quickly finish the work at around 4.30pm as I was trying to catch some sleep from my long haul flight. The shower toiletries is in bottle attached to the wall. Toothpaste and toothbrush is given. There is no fridge and kettle. Water fountain to top up your water bottle is available on the ground floor where receptionist is. There is free pastry breakfast, tea and coffee available in the morning from 7-10am. This is when u can top your water bottle with hot water as well. Toothpaste is not easy to tear to use and in the end I use my own toothpaste I brought alone. The usb port near bedside table is not working but the socket is working. They have a few usb ports and socket to be used. Although it is not air condition but the ceiling fan is sufficient. There is only one small elevator to the hotel room and hence has to wait awhile. Housekeeping service keep my room tidy and clean. On my last night, perhaps they miss out my room to clean, I called the front desk and they arrange it immediate to come by to take my full bin of thrash away. The water heater in the shower keep having issues and I have to keep asking the front desk to have maintenance guy to have it fix. I have to shower cold water twice during my stay in the morning and at night. Tv is alright. View from my room is another hotel maintenance roof but is alright as I don’t stay in the room often. This hotel is one of the pick up area for my tour to Yosemite. It is accessible to the a nice diner near me and a few cafe and restaurants. There isn’t as much homeless people which was being shared with me to avoid as is few streets away from it. Would recommend to come back to the hotel by 7.30pm when it is dark for solo traveller. I took a train from sf airport to powel station which is quite a short walking distance to the hotel. It is about 1 hour. But I took a cab to airport on my way out to Vegas. There is traffic. So cater for like 1.5 hours for it.

Response to the hotel response

I am very surprised that you made up some many lies to rob me. If you think that describing me as a "crazy and rude" person makes you feel better to rob me, I am fine with it because it is the last chance you can rob me. I am also fine with that lie that you gave customers two receipts when checking out. I right now think you are so funny. You know what, Stephanie. When I asked you that I wanted to meet your manager, you said "she" was not here. Look at your signature, It turned out that you are the "she". Disgraced people made disgraced lies. SO SAD.

Disgrace, scam & financial fraud Unacceptable room condition The room is super small and shady. You even cannot fully open the bathroom door due to the small areas. The closet was full of vaping smell. The elevator is also super narrow and slow. You always have to wait for the elevator up & down twice before you can enter it since the elevator is always crowded. The carpet was very dirty. Living there gives you a unique prison experience because you can only see a 10-floor wall from your room window. Full of lies at the front desk I asked one of your associates in the morning of the day before the checkout that whether I can check out the next day because the room condition was not tolerable. The guy said yes and the early checkout would not result in any penalty. On August 14th, when I checked out, the associate at front desk said all set and gave me the receipt only stating two nights residence.

However, several days later, the disgrace hotel posted an additional charge without any notice.

On August 18th, I went to the front desk to figure out their wrong doing. A associate, whose name was Stephanie, first unreasonably asked me the name of the associate who made that no-penalty commitment and then yelled at me saying "stop talking to me" when I asked their manager out.

In summary, the highlights of this hotel are: dirty, small, unpleasant, crazy and rude associates, financial fraud, full of lies, disgrace, a San Francisco...
