Looking for the best way to drive across the country? Look up at one of three epic road trips from Chicago to Los Angeles! Feb 2021 Chez Jay was chosen as one of the best places to visit on a road trip by The Wall Streat Journal! 🥜🐘🇺🇸 This American restaurant, the historic landmark (from 2012) that was established in 1959 in Santa Monica on 1657 Ocean Ave. Its Owners did a good job on The Backyard (opened August 2019) where now we all can enjoy brunches on weekends and live music from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesdays. The New brunch menu is fantastic! Chez Jay is one of those special places where beside good drinks and amazing meals especially if you are into seafood and steaks you can get the best of its atmosphere, meet new interesting people and to make new friends. Great service and every person who works there is a good person. You will always feel people care about you and make sure you are happy at Chez Jay!

I had the best time at Chez Jay. It was worth making a reservation and we were seated right on time. It felt like home from the owners warm welcome to the amazing staff it began great and got even better. The bloody Mary was a perfect way to begin. The Calamari steak was just as tender and delicious as I heard. The butter steak was perfectly medium rare and the herb sauce will have you craving it the next morning. The scalloped potatoes made for an excellent side choice with a nice Al dente piece of fresh broccoli. The steak was so delicious I can't stop thinking about it. Good thing there was so much food and fun I brought some home. The parking lot is a nice treat in crazy busy Santa Monica. In a sea of watered down boring spots the food and history of Chez is a welcome classic.

This Santa Monica landmark first attracted my eye while watching Goliath at home in San Diego. On a 3-day trip to Los Angeles I decided to come by and check it out. I loved it! My friend and I hung out for a couple hours, had 3 drinks each, and ordered the honey glazed brussel sprouts with bacon and sautéed button mushrooms. The drinks have a heavy pour. The food is really good. Here’s a secret: dip the brussel sprouts in the mushroom sauce, it’s incredibly good! The space is dark and a bit divey, but their kitchen also pumps out some really tasty-looking steaks and sides, food fit for more “upscale” spots with “surface” and “curb” appeal. It’s absolutely a good time to hang out here after an evening walk along the Venice and Santa Monica waterfront.

People claim this is a dive bar, but it has only mid to top tier booze options. So while the interior shoes signs of the times (it's historic), this still is a relatively higher end place. I do love the history. The fish in the wall apparently was caught by General Patton off Catalina Island prior to World War 2. I really enjoyed my time here. Bartender was attentive and poured a generous mixed drink. They do offer steak, but this is definitely more of a bar vibe than a restaurant.

I really enjoyed my time in the backyard patio with my girlfriends! There was really good live music and they were super accommodating to us when the place was sort of full. Friendly and helpful staff and I had an amazing plate of nachos. The nachos were supposed to have steak on them but they ran out and we subbed it for chicken and it was SO much better than the steak would have been. I would absolutely go back and get it again.

My friend made a reservation because my birthday was coming up. Great service, delicious steak. The last dinner at the destination became a wonderful memory.
