I stayed at Hampton Inn Ashtabula the last week of March 2023 for a business trip. It was wonderful before I even arrived. A great hotel with wonderful staff!
As I was boarding my flight to arrive to Ohio, the manager called to tell me there was no electricity due to a storm and that I had the option to switch hotels because they were unsure of when the power would be restored. Since it was work related, I opted to keep the reservation until I spoke to my travel manager to make changes or not. At my connecting flight I called the hotel and she stated the power was on but she honestly could not tell me if it would stay on. I greatly appreciated her truthfulness and honesty. Since Hilton is my brand of choice, I opted to still keep my reservation and if I needed to changed once I got there then I would.
Even though the computer system wasn’t up to speed due to the power outage, Hampton was still ready for us. We inquired about a colleague who was to join us. She stated “I cannot give you that information but I can tell you he is near.” I like that she was cognizant of not revealing information.
Breakfast was the typical Hampton Inn breakfast that I enjoy. I know I will be full and it will taste decent. On the first morning I asked one of the breakfast attendants when will the biscuits and gravy be served (my favorite meal at the Hampton). She kindly looked it up and told me “Wednesday.” Wednesday morning I say her in the hallway and she greeted me with a big smile “We have the biscuits and gravy this morning!” Every morning, all of the attendants were friendly, helpful, and clean.
My room was comfortable and clean. Bathroom was clean and stocked with plenty. Only downside/side eye was the locked storage closet (I think that’s what it was) in my room. I know it wasn’t a door to the stairwell, as there was not a door in the stairwell on the opposite side of the wall.
The gym area is very lackluster. Few kettlebell weights and a Peloton Bike were the best things going. The other equipment was rather old, worn and barely worked. I stuck to the weights and turned on the TV. Plenty of wipes, water, and towels. Didn’t experience the indoor pool like I wished. Every time I planned to go I saw kiddos swimming. I didn’t want to interrupt their splash time fun. But it looked nice and pretty cool to swim next to the window looking at snow.
Room service was by request and/or on the 5th day stay, which was fine for me.
Oh yeah, there is only one elevator. But that’s all it really needs. Few times in the evening the elevator smelled like weed. No judgement- it just hit you when the door opens and I wasn’t ready for that. Some folks staying there must’ve had a real good time.
I did not see washer/dryer and did not inquire if there were any for customer use. I decided to explore the town and get to know locals instead of washing clothes before I returned home.
Walking distance to a dollar store, gas station, and few fast food places. Down the street in both directions are some cool local eateries.
I feel safe while staying there and felt safe leaving my car out front. No issues.
Give everyone that works there a raise. They deserve it.
Overall, amazing stay. Ashtabula County was so very friendly to my colleagues and me. We enjoyed the...
Read moreJust stayed 1 night at this hotel. I booked a room with 2 queen beds. In the description of the room on the Hampton Inn website it says the room "sleeps 5". Considering there are only 2 queen beds, that tells me that the 5th person would have a roll away bed or a pullout sofa. After checking in and discovering there is no pullout sofa in the room, we called the front desk and told them we needed a roll away bed for our room that "sleeps 5". We were told the rollout bed was not available. As in ONE singular rollout bed for the entire hotel. I explained that I booked and paid for a room that "sleeps 5." We asked her if there was another room that sleeps 5 since that is what was booked. She said no. We asked her what we were supposed to do and she had no solution. We just had to accept the fact that we were screwed. When checking out I was asked how our stay was. I pulled up the Hampton Inn website on my phone, showed her the room that I booked with the "sleeps 5" description and asked her how they sleep 5 people in that room. She said "a rollaway bed." I then explained to her that THE rollaway bed was not available and I was offered no other solution. She proceeded to tell me about fire code, fire marshal etc etc. I was not interested in fire code and fire marshals. What I was interested in was why they advertised a room that "sleeps 5" only to find out on arrival that it actually doesn't sleep 5 if the rollaway bed is not available. I said, "so people just find out when they get here that they are screwed?" She just starred at me. So again, not helpful. No apology for the inconvenience or the falsely advertised room. Literally not a care in the world. We have stayed at numerous Hampton Inns all over the country and this by far has been the worst experience. Book with caution. Below is a copy/paste from the website with the description.

Read moreWorst experience I have ever had. Trying to gather my thoughts on how to explain my experience. I booked three nights and only stayed one. I was in town to visit my aunt who is dying and doesn't have much time left. I booked and paid for the stay through an agency. Due to my flight being delayed 7 hours, I called the hotel to let them know I would not make it the first night. The person I spoke to said that was fine and they would have a room for me the next day. When I arrived the next day, they said the reservation was canceled (even though I had already paid for the 3 nights) and brushed me off. There was no attempt to help me with the situation. I ended up calling the agency to get things straightened out. The hotel person stated they would honor the reservation but I would still have to pay for the night I missed to which I replied that was okay. The front desk clerk proceeded to tell me in front of my son that "THEY DO NOT HAVE STAFF TO CLEAN AFTER PEOPLE LIKE US".
I get there might have been a misunderstanding. However I was never asked about booking a room or making an attempt to resolve them cancelling my room. I was told the hotel was full and had no room available thats why I jump on the phone with my travel agency since there should have been a room for my son and I to stay...
