I’ll start this review with the positives. This B&B is in a very unique and charming antique home. It’s full of character, history, and memorabilia. It does seem like the owner put a lot of thought into the decor. The rooms themselves are very spacious and the views of the town and mountains are beautiful. It’s truly a fascinating place to stay and explore.
Now for the reasoning behind why I rated this 3 stars.
First, this place isn’t a bed and breakfast. It’s just a bed. Right after we arrived, the owner told us there would be no breakfast of any kind, because food prices have gone up. If you are counting on having any type of breakfast foods in the morning, even small pastries, this isn’t the place for you.
Second, the personality of the owner is bitter and offensive. Instead of being greeted with a “welcome” (or any kind of pleasantries) when we checked in, he started by saying he couldn’t wait to sell the place. He then took us on a tour of the building. We weren’t there even 5 minutes when he proceeded to make very rude and insulting remarks about professions, politics, and even previous guests.
Third, cleanliness is adequate. While our sheets were clean, our shower curtain was marked with many brown stains and our shower liner was growing black mildew. Those are simple fixes that should be part of the upkeep in a B&B.
The best thing for this establishment probably would be for the owner to sell to someone who would be better suited for the hospitality industry and could allow this place to reach its...
Read moreWe stayed for two nights and really loved it! It’s a 15-minute drive to knoebels from the B&B, which is why we were there, but Shamokin is also very picturesque and it looked like there were a lot of cute shops, bars and restaurants to explore on the Main Street where the B&B is located. We arrived late and had no problems with check in using the access codes and directions provided the day of our arrival. Parking is also very easy and free. There are lots of spaces on Main St right in front of the place to use while you unload. You can’t park overnight on Main St but all side streets seem to be fair game, and there is one about 25 feet past the inn that we turned into. The room was fully stocked with extra towels and everything you might need - we actually never even saw a host or other guests during our stay. We stayed in the Bittersweet Room on the second floor and it was a huge room with an extremely cozy bed and a pullout couch where my daughter was comfortable. Some street noise from trucks passing below but overall quiet nights, and everything was clean and well kept. It is also just a really cool old building, with narrow creaky stairs, high ceilings and some long spooky corridors. I’m a little disappointed there...
Read moreBooked months in advance....yet day before issue with overbooking but was properly handled with no issues upon arrival. Website states Continental breakfast...just coffee. Owner stated don't know how to update....large rooms fairly clean though notice extreme amount of dust bunnies behind and under bed. Air condition is small window unit responsible for cooling large area. Very reasonably priced for a place to stay when visiting area. Keypad entry to building key lock on individual room. Sketchy area but do to it being in an economically depressed town. Small parking area in back, street parking out front though advised to use back street parking.outside porch front and rear.lots of antique items about would keep kids wrangled. Has great potential for an outstanding b & b. Nice place for our needs for a place for a large group of out of town visitors to stay. Would stay again just not when temperatures outside are...
