We booked a ladies spa day to celebrate someone in the group beating cancer and decided to make the 90 minute drive there. We had heard lovely things but I’m inclined to believe they were talking about somewhere else; after having just spent the day there and spending almost $2,000. Should have been $1,250 but we’ll get there…. First of all staff is nowhere to be found, it’s like a really un-fun game of hide and seek. Finally find people and they’re cold and curt. Not quite rude just made it known they didn’t want to be there, contemptuous. Services in general were meh. Manicure? Rough, and rushed, no hand massage or anything as listed in the service. Didn’t use cuticle softener/oil just tore away at mine. Massage? Despite asking for more pressure several times it was like she was afraid to touch me, very very delicate. Could hear the other staff gossiping loudly about having gotten drunk over the weekend, people stomping around upstairs. 50 minute massage was around 35 minutes. Facial? I have no basis for comparison on this to comment one way or the other. I felt slimy and gross after though, not refreshed and cleansed. It was odd, one in our party who had one before said it was merely ok compared to the ones she’s had in the past that were substantially cheaper. Up next was lunch. Now this was absolutely laughable. Our package included champagne (actually the whole day included that and/or soft drinks, tea, water but good luck getting any; I went directly to the kitchen several times to serve our group-- on one such visit I witnessed them marrying bottles of champagne which is not only gross but illegal in PA) the champagne in question? $4.99 bottle at the local wines and spirits and not just lukewarm- bordering on hot…so not only was it garbage it was hot garbage. So we asked for a diet soda once we got the servers attention. One sip and I gagged. It was disgusting, I checked the bottom of the can it had expired 7 months ago. My friend didn’t even sip hers yet, checked her can same thing. So we politely just asked for water to pour over our measly 4 ice cubes we were given with our diet soda. She brings out some sort of cracker thing and we ask what it is and she said horseradish. Who serves horseradish with naan crackers? Anyways, main course was a grilled chicken salad. I asked for no onions. I get it full of onions, she brings it back again after merely picking out the onions, the cold dry pre cooked chicken literally had onions stuck to the back of it. Salad was littered with rotten blueberries, and just a whole lot of spring mix and soggy borderline spoiled tomatos. Then comes dessert, SYSCO cheesecake, oooo wow. Again for the price of the package I expected something a little nicer than Dennys, but at this point I shouldn’t have been surprised. Next up was our pedicures. The first two people that got them were content with them but said what they get at the local nail salon was just as nice if not better for much cheaper. While they did that we used their spa. The monsoon showers are great and all except they blast you with ice cold water for a solid 20 seconds when you turn them on. PART ONE
UPDATE: Manager never followed up as posted in their response. and quite frankly their response was garbage. Inflation isn't causing poor behavior on behalf of your employees. Why would I convey my displeasure to your miserable and and very vocal about them being hungover employees? They were the problem, so further interaction would have been moot. Additionally we were THREE minutes late due to some bad weather. Literally...
Read moreFrom beginning to end the experience here was REMARKABLE. My husband and I stayed from 5/14/16 to 5/16/16 and it was definitely a new experience for the both of us. We had dinner at Ashley's and they shuttled us from the mansion to dinner and back. I highly recommend that dinner, it was wonderful. The spa services are SPECTACULAR. They really know how to pamper you; it has been almost a week since our spa day at the mansion and my legs, body, and face are still SOFTER THAN EVER, and my nails and toes still look perfect, which NEVER happens. My husband and I got a side by side romance spa and it was everything we hoped it would be and more. It seems like there is always champagne available, and the customer service there is on point whenever we needed anything else to drink. We adored the ENTIRE staff. We had our small wedding on that Sunday, the 15th, and it was a hectic day, but the entire staff made sure everything was perfect for us and didn't rush us on anything. They even dealt with my crazy self, and I am a lot to handle sometimes. Sarah did our pictures, and she was so sweet, she took her time to make sure we got A LOT of amazing pictures, and it was even her birthday!!! Constance was a doll, she makes the best drinks and is just so awesome. Hannah coordinated our wedding day and she was just amazing. Anthony was always making sure he was helping us with EVERYTHING. Met the assistant manager, Marci, on the day we were leaving and she is a SWEETHEART!! We loved that we could go anywhere around the mansion at any time we pleased, and it was nice because it felt like we were the only 2 people there most of the time because we walked around at night and went down to the spa area. Kim, the lady who works the night shift, made sure the sauna was heated up for us, and was very quick to make sure we had what we needed LATE AT NIGHT, and PROMPTLY at that. It is nice because it feels like when we needed something, someone was always there, and if we didn't need anything NO ONE was there, so we had our space. GREAT PEOPLE!!! GREAT SERVICE!!! CAN'T SAY IT ENOUGH. We stayed in the Grand Turret and the Grand Gables, and BOTH rooms were SO BEAUTIFUL!!! I could go on and on, it is worth EVERY penny. I recommend this place to literally ANYONE. Thank you for making our experience something to...
Read moreFor our 44th Wedding Anniversary my husband surprised me with a getaway to Buhl Guesthouse. What a great choice! This mansion property was the epitome of Romanesque style. Filled with statuary and paintings, period furnishings, it was a stunning bed and breakfast! The home includes gorgeous white sitting rooms, a stunning period dining room with a closed showcase of the opulence of the era. For your use is a well-appointed library with books and games, a breakfast room which faces the well-manicured grounds. There are many guest rooms, all of which are named after a person or idea. Ours was the Grand Turret Room and was set in the largest turret of the mansion. It was furnished complete with an oversized jetted tub and with a bed you needed stairs to get into it. The bed was very comfortable. There was also a walk-in shower and a fireplace. Buhl offers a choice of time slots for your morning breakfast and the menu was varied. Breakfast was delicious. I cannot say enough about the interior and the grounds of this property. It was meticulously maintained inside and out with the interior decor absolutely gorgeous. Buhl's staff shines! All were friendly with spot-on in service and helpfulness. A young bell man assisted by carrying our bags to our third-floor guestroom. A complimentary glass of champagne was offered at check-in, plus our room had a lovely cheese and fruit platter with a bottle of champagne waiting for us upon arrival. Within close proximity are quite a few restaurants to drive too. Although the Spa was tempting, I was unable to fit it into our stay. Maybe next time! My husband and I made it a point also to visit their sister property, Tara - A Country Inn, about 15 minutes away. The decor of Tara is completely different than Buhl and follows a "Gone with the Wind" theme. We stopped by in the afternoon and they welcome visitors from Buhl to explore their grounds and accommodations as well. Visiting both locations really tokes you back to bygone eras. We highly recommend Buhl Guesthouse and Spa if you want a truly memorable getaway. It's worth every penny for romance...
