My stay at extended-stay America, West Broad||i’ve been staying at the Extended Stay America 10961 W. Broad Street for the past three months, and I can confidently say this location has exceeded my expectation for temporary housing compared to previous days and other hotels,. Initially, I only plan to stay for a weekend, but the convenient amenities and prime location, I decided to make this my homebase until the weather breaks. Here’s my detailed experience:||The location:||This hotel is in the heart of short pump, surrounded by fine restaurants, a shopping mall, gas stations, a movie theater, and grocery stores. Everything you could need is within walking or short, driving distance. CVS and Wawa, two of my favorite essentials, are right across the street, which makes it super convenient for prescriptions and quick snacks. Plus, the parking lot is clean, well lit, and has plenty of spaces.||The room:|When I arrive, the manager greeted me warmly with a big smile, which set the tone for my stay. I booked a queen size room, and here’s what I found.:||Furnishings; |the room includes a queen size bed, a dresser with deep drawers, a compact bathroom, storage, and a midsize refrigerator. There’s also a two burner stove, built in microwave, and a counter height table with barstools, which I thought was a nice touch.||Cleanliness:| as someone with the background in housekeeping, and running my own cleaning service, I naturally inspected every corner of the room. I stripped the bed, check for pest, and sanitize all surfaces, including the fridge, cabinets, bathroom, and floors. While the room was clean upon arrival, I went above and beyond because that’s just in my nature.||Improvements:|| I did find two strands of hair in the fridge and noticed the curtains had a faint smoke order from my previous tenant. I steamed the drapes and did a deep clean to my satisfaction.||Amenities and quietness:||This hotel is ideal for temporary housing. Utilities, cable, and Internet are included in the rental rate, which is a steel compared to the Luxury apartments next-door, charging nearly 2000 for one bedroom, plus utilities. The property is very quiet, even with the children living here; you only notice them when they’re getting on and off the school bus. Once I spotted a bug that blended with the the wall. The staff properly offered me another room or a treatment service, which I appreciate appreciated. ||Overall experience: I’ve stayed in numerous hotels as a travel, nurse, and this one stands out for great management, location, and affordability. It’s not luxury, but for what it offers, cleanliness, quiet, and all included amenities. It’s a fantastic option for temporary housing. ||Tips for the future guest:||If you’re considering this location, I recommend reading reviews and understanding what you’re getting. This isn’t a luxury hotel, but it is a clean and well managed space that works for those who value affordability and convenience,. If you go in expecting perfection, you might feel dissatisfied, but for me, this day has been nothing but comfortable...
Read moreThe room was infested, and I mean INFESTED, with cockroaches. They were running around at all times of day, despite being nocturnal. I brought this to the staff's attention four times over the course of a month before they took any action. They offered a $150 (one and a half nights!) refund after a MONTH of dealing with a severe infestation, and when I called customer service to complain, the hotel manager called to angrily confront me. They raised the refund to 25% of the cost, but only because I insisted on it being the bare minimum that was acceptable. I literally woke up with a cockroach in my hair one morning, they would run out of the drains when I turned on the shower or sink, the only thing they left alone was my food (which was packaged and sealed properly). During my stay I had to have a surgical procedure, and I was so worried the whole time, because cockroaches carry contagious germs and diseases like E Coli and salmonella, and the staff absolutely did not care. Thank god they didn't cause me to get severely ill, but my asthma was noticeably worsened during my stay, and I had constant headaches.
There were also other customers who kept parking in the handicap parking illegally, which often blocked the medical vans from being able to pick me up for my infusions, they would have to park in the street and wheel me into the street to pick me up. This is dangerous, as in my wheelchair I am the height of a young child and not visible from taller vehicles. There is also a car that drives at high speeds in the area, and would not have time to stop if the van was loading me in the road. The hotel did not take this safety issue seriously. I had to get law enforcement involved for that to stop. One of the cars also would rev their engine directly outside my room at 8am, scaring me (a person with a cardiac condition) awake.
The staff finally sprayed for the roaches, promising to spray again in a week. They did not, and when I reminded them, a pest control employee (who wasn't in the hotel uniform) attempted to walk into my room unannounced, without knocking or anything, and was mad that the door was locked. He refused to identify himself until I opened the door. Keep in mind the staff were aware that I was staying here after experiencing domestic violence and a sexual assault, and allowed a random man to try to enter my room unannounced, out of uniform, and alone, while they were aware I was alone in the room.
Other issues involved finding a random dirty fingernail clipping on my bed on a day no one should've been in the room (it wasn't cleaned or anything), being given dirty dishes and utensils, a broken toilet roll holder, and a chair that felt like it could break at any moment due to loose fasteners.
This room was a massive health hazard, and should be closed off until all the infestation is fully dealt with. As it is the only queen sized accessible room at this hotel, I...
Read moreIt TRULY pains me to have to write this review on Christmas day, but we had THE WORST hotel experience of our lives staying here. Checked in on 12/21 and were given Room 317. That night there was a humongous stinkbug on a bed pillow, but we didn't complain we just threw it outside. This should've been our clue to leave then. We stayed and ended up having to move to another room (376) as the toilet pipes in 317 were defective and continued to spew water all over the bathroom floor when used. Sooo we were moved to 376, and immediately had to deal with a refrigerator which was placed in such a way that it couldn't open fully and a toilet which consistently made the sound which toilets make when filling with water after being flushed. We contacted the front desk that night (12/23 ) about those issues and the fact that certain tv channels which worked on the tv in 317 were not viewable in 376, and was told by the attendant that he would leave a note for the manager..whatever that meant. These were our immediate concerns yet more was to come. After returning from visiting with family on Christmas Eve (12/24), we went back to the room and tried to heat up food which we brought to the room in the microwave..which we then found out was inoperable. We called the front desk, and unfortunately NO ONE would pick up the phone. We called corporate and the attendant couldn't locate anyone at the hotel either. Today, CHRISTMAS MORNING- we are awakened to a maintenance man opening the door after we said that we were not decent. At this point, it was time to go. So we pack our things and right when we go to pull the curtain in front of the closet area, we see a TRIBE of stinkbugs chilling on the fabric. I've attached pics and videos of these things. This hotel only came into our purview due to a flight/hotel package deal with Expedia. So here it is CHRISTMAS day and we are SEARCHING for a suitable place to stay. I will be contacting the Henrico Board of Health as there is some sort of insect infestation issue, AND I also will be contacting the zoning commission or whoever else oversees that buildings are structually compliant as even the fact that the placement of the refridgerator in the room tells me that besides the deplorable management which oversees this place, it's very foundation...
