When we sought out assistance from the woman at the front desk in regards to the issues with our stay, she persisted to act as if we were being a nuisance. It would also be a big help and would have made all the difference if at least ONE of the staff members spoke fluent English considering this is a field of hospitality, communication, and customer service. This has to be one of the dirtiest hotels I've ever stayed at with the most unprofessional, rude, careless staff I have ever encountered in all my travels. Let me further explain why. Let me start by saying my fiance & I stayed here through 211 being as we suddenly became homeless. What we thought would be a blessing turned into a nightmare experience. The room we stayed in, 123 was BEYOND tiny. The blanket/comforter they provided was a joke and could have been comparable to a giant tissue it was SO thin and worn. There was concrete & dirt all over the floor, especially gathered in the corners of the room & behind the bed. The top of the toilet bowl was completely missing leaving the inside of the back of the toilet totally open and exposed. There are also these strange metal bars that stick out of the sides of the bed between the mattress & box spring in which my fiance cut his knees on multiple times. I can't imagine this being safe especially for people staying with children. (This also ties into the "Safety" section.) Also during our stay the room began to flood on the floor near the air conditioner which I will go into further detail in the "Safety" section. As I mentioned below the room began to flood near the air conditioner unit. Not only is this a fire hazard but also a health hazard being as the water reached under the bed leaving a musky mold type smell and damp feeling throughout the room. (Mind you, I'm asthmatic, so this made it especially hard for me to breathe & near impossible for me to be comfortable.) All our clothes and bags that were near the unit on the floor had become soaked by the time we noticed the water. Figuring it would be the professional thing to do on their part at this point, I had asked my fiance to seek out help from the front desk. An Indian man comes into the room to mop up and after mopping runs his hand over the floor and says, "look no water" I then replied "well obviously there's no water because you just mopped it up." He also walked into the room smoking a cigarette without asking if that was okay, constantly coughing the entire time, meanwhile I'm 8 months pregnant, due August 8th. At that point I told him all our clothes are soaked and he proceeded to gather up our clothes and say no no it's not wet. I grabbed the clothes that were wet and made him feel how wet they were, pleading that these are the only clothes we have on us and that they are now dirty. At that point he says put the wet clothes in a bag and walks my fiance to the dryers. On the walk over he goes "tip tip?" to my fiance. He proceeds to say to my fiance, "there's an ATM inside" at that point my fiance said there's no way you are getting a tip." How this guy thought in ANYWAY he was entitled to a tip is total insanity. He half-assed cleaned up the water after accusing us of lying about the water, offered up no apology, compensation or solution for the inconvenience of our belongings getting damaged/wet, deliberately and carelessly blew cigarette smoke in my face exposing my unborn baby to the toxins. I mean seriously how much more unprofessional, inconsiderate and disrespectful could you possibly be!!!! & here I thought 211 placed us here for safe shelter,...

Hotel/Motel in question (Travelodge in South Hackensack) had a lot of mixed reviews. I booked once to try it out & had no issues in a certain room. I re-booked another two nights and requested same room and received it. I spoke to front desk and they said there would be no problem requested the same room. Was the area noisy due to planes? Yes, but that is not on the hotel/motel. It was a very no frills room, but clean.
I went to book my third stay (single night) & requested same room. I was told by phone I could have it. Then hours before my reservation check-in I called & they said that the room was booked, but they can give me a room just like it next to it. I said OK.
Before I left my office, I noticed I was already charged on my card even though I did not check-in yet, so I made the effort to print it out to show the front desk person. I get to TRAVELODGE with the printed receipt from online & when I gave my credit card, I explained I was already charged. The front desk person told me, I would only be charged once & that they need the credit card info anyway. I am fine with that in case of room damages (there was none) etc.
I get my key & my room number is completely different than I was told. I was willing to give it a shot, but now the fun begins
My room key does not open the door. On my way back to front desk (outside in rain) I got a notice that my card was billed a second time. I went to desk & was told "the key should work" & that the double charge was the way they have to do it (huh?) & that one charge will drop off in a day (It did, but I should never have been debited twice). I stayed at many hotels & never had to be debited twice to book one stay. I booked three nights at same TRAVELODGE online & was never double debited.
I was given a second key that worked & entered a room that reeked of cigarette smoke, had cigarette burns in the blanket & the room was much more rundown than the room I was used to. I knew the TRAVELODGE was booked solid so I just wanted to try to see how I can make the stay work. I kept the door open to air out the room (I am asthmatic) & that helped. After 2.5 hrs of airing out the room, I found I had a roommate - a big old ROACH in the shower (see pic). After dealing with the front desk (English is hard to understand) & being told complete lies (double debit is the norm) I took care of the roach myself.
Now that I spend close to three hours making a room somewhat livable, I tried to get some rest & outside my door there was a guy in his truck playing music with his engine running. More quality of life issues.
After waiting NINE days for a response, the manager contacted me & never had an offer of an apology for...

First and foremost, this location is approximately 500 feet or so from the tarmac of a private airport so from 6:30am until 11:00pm you will hear jet engines so loud that the room shakes slightly. If you're planning on being out and about for a good period of time this may not bother you, but I stayed here for five nights, two of which I spent the entire day in the hotel, and the noise is not to be believed. You may be able to tolerate it if you're a heavy sleeper but you may also not want to take that chance if you plan on spending a great deal of time in the room. Speaking of, as for the room itself, it was more than fine, especially for the price. The bed was comfy enough just a little bit creaky, large dorm fridge and microwave, my room had a desk and office chair in it as well, ample drawer space, no closet but there are hangars on a bar behind the front door, large flat screen wall-mounted television with a decent channel selection (roughly two dozen channels if I recall correctly). One thing I was bothered by was a lack of carpet, the floors in my room were laminated tile, and my room came right off of the parking lot so I'd end up tracking in a lot of grit and grime from the street on my way in. The shower was nice, however the hot water goes out pretty quick once other guests start firing up their showers so you may have to quickly get in and out if you want a hot one. My other major concern with this location was that most of my towels had a good amount of hair still entangled in the fibers and it isn't very fun to be dripping wet, standing outside of the shower picking hair off the towels before I can use them, so check your towels before you need them. Other than all of that the room is well priced and maintained for a short or mid-sized stay, it offers access to both sides of Rt. 46 and I-80 is right down the street, dining is close by as well as convenience stores. The only real problem I anticipate you having is the noise from the planes overhead if you end up having a room like mine, otherwise you should be okay here for a few nights. Staff is very courteous and quick with anything you need, within reason. I stayed in Room 103...
