Read moremy husband and I planned on staying two nights and stayed six looking at property in St Mary's. the experience was absolutely wonderful. Mardja is the most wonderful innkeeper that I have ever met. There was wine in the parlor in the evening. Coffee or tea in the afternoon with brownies or cookies awaiting us. A Large porch and veranda for talking, reading or just relaxing. Restaurants within walking distance. We especially liked walking down to the Seagram's (sp?) hotel 2 blocks away for great live music and an adult beverage. at 8 pm, then,. we'd take a walk down by the river park after 10: pm and sit on the swings.
Victoria was an excellent host from breakfast () to impeccable rooms ().She'd even make sure my British husband's water was at a rolling boil so he could brew his tea to his taste. Every morning.
We stayed in the Guinevere and Lancelot suite and the Gable and Lombard as our stay extended. Mardja even brought up epsom salts for my bath. The Inn provided a golf cart as downtown is cart friendly. Perfect for touring neighborhoods.. Carole was also an excellent host and a brilliant morning conversationalist.
The guests were interesting, well traveled and good company. Some had come on sail boats, a couple for a 30th anniversary, some to visit Cumberland Island, a family group for Mother's Day celebrations. A retired doctor up at 6 am to photograph the area accompanied by his King Charles Spaniel. It's a dog friendly place.
All was delightful. Enough room to visit over breakfast, and then everyone had full days ahead. We were the guests who wouldn't leave, and I know we'll be back and bringing family and their dog. I have three sisters and we plan 3 plus sister trips a year. They won't want to...
Read moreMy husband and I shared our first Bed and Breakfast experience here at the Goodbread House. I have to say the bar is set pretty high now. Mardja is one of the sweetest and most hospitable women I've ever met. She made us feel so comfortable and at home and she made sure all of our needs were met. We arrived in the evening, got dressed and decided to explore the town. We went down to the local bar (Seagels lounge) where they were having Karioke night. We were welcomed there by Carol. He even gave us a personal shout out from the microphone. It was so welcoming, we were instantly comfortable and had a great evening! Our first morning Mardja made the most delicious griddle cakes with fresh fruit with a side of turkey sausage (which was a special request, as my husband cannot eat pork) which was also served by Carol. It was so good and definitly enough to help us fuel our day! We spent our first day at Cumberland Island. Mardja gave us a ride in the golf cart down to the ferry terminal and even took care of ordering and picking up our lunches for the trip. When we came back from the island, we were pretty exhausted and were greeted by Tammy, the housekeeper. She was very nice and so friendly. We decided to just get cleaned up and have a relaxing evening and watched movies and got some much needed rest! We awoke to yet another delicious breakfast, an omlet with fresh fruit and a nice warm slice of cinnamon cake. We met a lot of very nice people who were staying there as well. Meal conversations were nice and flowing and never felt forced or uncomfortable. We definitly feel like this is our new home away from home in St. Marys! Thank you all for memories that will last...
