Pleasantly surprised, for a last minute budget deal we had a great experience and would stay here again! Older hotel with a retro vibe that is nostalgic, the staff said the other property in town was recently renovated and this location will be renovated next year. Great location and views, was surprised at the spaciousness of our suite. We booked a last-minute deal for two adults and weren’t exactly sure what room we would be given (it was the accessible suite; it had lower countertops in the kitchen and bathroom, lower bed, table and dresser height). Two separate bathrooms, one through the bedroom and another by the living/kitchen area. Has decent size fridge and freezer and basic dishes, cooking utensils, pots and pans, etc. Bed wasn’t the most comfortable, but I’ve had way worse—it was clean (and as someone with back issues), slept just fine for me and had a couple different thickness of pillows to choose from. Would be perfect for a couple with two kids needing a comfortable space, especially if on a budget.
Furniture and overall facilities was dated but everything was very clean; room had extra blankets, sheets and pillows. Bathrooms were well stocked with toiletries, towels, pool towels, and hair dryers. Activity room downstairs was dated but had billiards, foosball, and plenty of room for some good old fashioned card & board games. The advertised movie night on Tuesdays.
Two hot tubs and one good sized indoor pool, everything was on and working, again a little 80’s vibes but seemed to be kept clean and no overwhelmingly chlorine smell. Pool furniture seemed fairly new and good condition. I think there are outdoor games such as cornhole, horseshoes & soccer maybe? (We weren’t there long enough to check this out, but nice to know they have it available). Fitness center that was clean and well-stocked with fresh towels, cold water, and a decent array of equipment. Fire pit was not in use but looked very cozy for wintertime. We enjoyed looking through the old books on the bookcase wondering how many people have done the same. Nice view from the third floor to watch the sunset or have your morning coffee. We stayed on a quiet summer night, but they do have ski/snowboard lockers upstairs. Free laundry room downstairs but bring your own detergent (we didn’t use these but they had about 4 or 5 available). Soda/snack vending machines were well stocked and working. We could have used our Roku stick from home with the tv’s, but forgot our remote and couldn’t get it to connect to wireless with the app on our phone; they do have basic cable, dvd player and think they have dvds at the front desk. Pet friendly, saw other people with dogs (we left ours at home for this trip). They advertise a shuttle service but we drove ourselves. The paved road to the hotel is a little rough, but the winters we have in the area are harsh on the roadways in some areas so just a given when driving in the mountains. The gravel road to Strawberry Springs is way worse!
I think for anyone who made some great memories staying here over years who would like to reminisce one last time as it probably looked before it gets renovated, do it. For any couples looking for a low-key getaway or families it’s just right. Hot springs and good food aren’t too far away. With the retro vibe it would be perfect for some time to just unplug and focus on good wholesome family &...

Spent one week here on vacation in April of 2018. Very clean facility. Friendly and helpful staff. Our choosing Legacy Vacation Resort was just what was available when we were, somewhere we hadn't visited before, and less than a 10 hour drive from home. We are not skiers, so we spent most our time just relaxing at the resort. There plenty of things to do besides skiing in Steamboat Springs. Loved the shops in town, the free bus service, and most of all, the hot springs right in town.
We had adjoining units. "A" side has 2 full size beds, full bath, mini fridge, microwave, and Cable TV +DVD player. "B" side is twice the size of "A". First half of "B" is the Master Bedroom and Bathroom with large walk-in closet, Queen bed, Cable TV +DVD player. Second half of "B" (middle) is a common area with Cable TV, kitchen, hide-a-bed couch and a 3rd full bath. Full size fridge/freezer, oven/glass top range, toaster, microwave and plenty of cabinets for groceries. Basic dishes, utensils and cookware. Oven had trouble staying closed tight and keeping heat in, we only used it twice, stuck with range and microwave after that. Plenty of closest space throughout the units.
Ski lockers in the hallway. Vending machines with drinks and snacks located near the stairs. Informal sitting area with Cable TV located near the front desk. Books and DVD's available for checkout/borrow.
Pool and hot tubs. Yes, 2 hot tubs in the pool area! Didn't use the sauna, but it was there. Our daughters were as wrinkled as prunes when we left, believe one of them spent more time in the water than in her bed. 😉
Exercise room: Free weights, weight machine, treadmill, exercise bike and a recumbent exercise bike. This was quite possible my wife's favorite part of our stay. I belive that this was a very light winter, as I expected to see more snow still on the ground. We pretty much had the place to ourselves. Nice to be able to all exercise at the same time.
Game room: Nintendo Wii and Ping Pong table use were free. Foosball, Billiards, and Air Hockey $1 per game. My son and I spent many hours in there.
I would love to come back in 2019, but I've been over-ruled (4 to 1), Disneyland. Maybe in 2020. 😁
This is an updated version: It's 10 months since our visit and the kids are still talking about what a great...
Read moreFirst, I recognize this is a 3-star rated hotel. I am not expecting a 5-star hotel for 3-star money. We were really disappointed for some very specific reasons. First, the photos are amazing while the actual room finishes are worn, carpet old, partially operating window blinds, felt cheap.
Second, the staff, every one of the staff including the front desk spoke broken English, or no English at all. We've rented from Legacy in Orlando (great spot) and when the phone doesn't answer at the Hilltop, the phone gets picked up in the Orlando Central Office. However, the Orlando folks really don't know the specifics of the Hilltop property, they are 2,000 miles away. Hospitable, but not that helpful.
Third, there is an access road from the highway up to the "hill top." It was covered in ice and snow (yes, this IS Colorado). We managed our way up to the hotel in our FWD rented Ford. Not too difficult. When we went out to dinner however, the same ice and snow was unforgiving going down the hill. We LOST CONTROL of the car at 5 mph! I'm from up North, so I know how to attempt to correct in this type of condition. I was barely able to steer the spinning car into a snow bank and stop. No damage, no injuries. We WERE going really slow when the car went out of control. So, we dug the car out, parked and asked to take the shuttle into town. HERE IS THE FRUSTRATING PART.....the shuttle turned out of the parking lot and made an immediate right into a residential neighborhood with clean, dry streets. The driver avoided the hotel's front access road and went about 2-miles out of his way to avoid it. WOULDN'T THAT BE A GOOD TIP FOR GUESTS WITH CARS?
Other than these issues that detracted from the enjoyment of Steamboat Springs, the staff were courteous, the shuttles were accessible and we made the best of the...
