This would have been a fine visit; however, everything went downhill the second day of our stay when we woke up to someone knocking on our door at 6:30 a.m. Thinking surely no one was knocking on our door that early especially with a do not disturb sign, we ignored it. Then another knock confirmed that yes, there was someone knocking on our door that early on our vacation. Our first thought was maybe it was an emergency. My husband answered the door to a man demanding to know who he was. The man didn't identify himself or give any explanation as to who he was, he wanted to know who we were and why we were in the room we were in. My husband closed the door and at this point, it was clear we weren't going back to sleep. after a few minutes we knew we weren't going back to sleep so my husband went to get coffee from downstairs and the man was still standing in the hallway. At that point, he stated it was his hotel and he wanted to know who we were because the room we were in was not the room we were supposed to be in?! He later identified himself as the hotel manager, but he was not wearing a name badge or anything else that would identify him as an employee of the hotel.
We were scheduled to stay another night, but ultimately we decided this was unacceptable and we did not want to stay there so we packed and headed downstairs to check out. When we got to the desk, the same man who knocked on our door was behind the counter (this time wearing his name badge) - Francisco S. I told him we wanted to check out early because being woke up at 6:30 in the morning by a stranger with no explanation - other than demanding to know who we were because we weren't supposed to be in the room that we were assigned and had keys for - is unacceptable. At this point he became defensive and belligerent, and refused to provide an explanation other than we weren't in the room we were supposed to be in, even though that was the room we were given, had a keys for, paid for and signed for. He didn't understand why we were upset. He refused to apologize, give any further explanation or do anything to make it right. When we asked for his manager, he said she told him to wake us up. What?! We subsequently found out that another guest was also woke up around the same time because apparently he wasn't in the room he was supposed to be in either. That is an employee problem - not a guest problem and certainly not something to address at 6:30 in the morning with guests who may still be resting!! In all of my years of travel and hotel stays, I have NEVER experienced anything like this - especially for something that was in no way our fault or something that we caused to happen. The hotel is clean and the room was as nice as any other Hampton and the location is convenient to both sides of the Bay. However, we will never stay at this hotel again based on this atrocious experience, and unless you want to chance being awakened to an interrogation first thing in the morning, you should...
Read moreAwful. Toilet did not properly flush, had to seek out the "one plunger" for this establishment. Uncomfortable, awkward bed. They allow people to bring in numerous pets under the pretense that they're "service animals". The smell of cigarette smoke lingers in the halls. They allow people to roam their halls to push flyers under the doors to hawk disgusting take-out restaurants. And that's not really the worst of it. The worst of it was the treatment that my fiancee and I endured the morning of 9/14/17:
While most of the staff was friendly and helpful my fiancee and I were harassed by the clerk on duty the morning of 9/14/17 (an elderly, blonde woman, once I can confirm her name I will edit this review). We returned from my fiancee picking me up from work (I work nights) and upon arrival I noticed a sketchy couple skulking in the parking lot. I informed the aforementioned clerk about these folks. She could not have cared less. She looked puzzled that I was even speaking to her. Shortly after this we returned to our room. I was preparing to shower and my fiancee was downstairs getting breakfast for us. After my fiancee returned we heard a knock on the door. My fiancee opened it and it was the clerk carrying on about the noise coming from our room and "complaints" she received. She said "she heard us arguing". Didn't even ask a question, just jumped to accusations and insults. Keep in mind we hadn't be back for ten minutes and weren't even together in the room (the TV was even muted). She wouldn't let my fiancee respond and even put her hands in her face as to "shush her". I immediately called 1-800-HAMPTON and reached their complaints department (spoke to "Carrie"). I was told an e-mail would be sent to the general manager and I would be contacted. I have NOT been contacted and I have to assume Hampton Inn does not care about its customer service. I also spoke to the evening clerk and she advised that wasn't protocol for noise complaints, that they are instead supposed to call the room. This isn't about wanting a refund or money. This is about basic human respect and proper customer service. Still waiting to be contacted so we get our...
Read moreThe stay here was fine; not superb and not terrible. This is a must read review if you use the Hilton app and do not use a web page typically.
The shuttle only runs 5am - 10pm because it is a third party company. This is NOT advertised anywhere other than the website AFTER clicking on the full amenities. It is not on the landing page for the hotel website. If you are coming from the airport during these hours, you can call and they will come get you. At check-in there was NO disclosure that there are specific instructions at check-out on how to access the shuttle. You have to request the shuttle by notifying the front desk. They are not on-call and you can only leave on the hour dots. This can be fairly inconvenient if your flight is at a strange time and you do not want to get there extremely early.
The walls are extremely thin, I don’t think I have ever stayed at a hotel where I could hear everything in a room across the hall from me. The doors slam shut, and I would not recommend staying in a room near the elevator as you will hear everything, even folks walking around.
The last thing is for folks who are traveling with someone that they are sharing a room with. The bathroom doors are not a true door, it is a slider that covers the closet when slid back. I’ve attached a picture for reference, there is a gap in the door that does not close. At first I thought that it was broken, but this is by design as there was no track left for the door to slide on. You can’t see into the bathroom from the room, but if someone walks into the room from the outside, you definitely can see all the way in.
There were other hotels that were priced the same, but I picked this one due to the good reviews, I am surprised more folks have not written about these encounters. The staff was pleasant and welcoming and I appreciated their efforts to check me in earlier than anticipated. The breakfast options were expansive, more than I was expecting, but I will not be staying here again when...
