We booked rooms months before for our nephewâs wedding. When we got there we were told our room wasnât ready and theyâd text us when it was. Half an hour later other wedding people started showing up and some were getting their rooms but many werenât, even though people that had no reservations were getting checked in and given rooms. The groom, bride and mother of groom didnât have their rooms ready. And after waiting an hour and a half finally got their rooms after dress rehearsal was supposed to start. We waited two and a half hours and were the last of our party to get our room even though we were the first to show up. When we went into our room it was quickly apparent that our room had not been cleaned. Floor wasnât vacuumed and had debris, counters not wiped down with crumbs and sticky rings, hairs in our sheets and when we pulled back the sheets there was no mattress protector and crumbs all over in the mattress depressions. We went downstairs and were given another room and the mgr stated he would comp us but wasnt specific on the compensation. Second room had clean but stained sheets. Our floor was sticky though and our shoes were making noise all across the floor while walking so I took two damp washcloths and walk/slid across floor, both were black as was the hand towel I used to dry the floor with. There is an overall lack of maintenance, tubs looks old and stained, plastic patio table dirty and cigarette burn marks. You can walk down the hallways and tell both current and past guests have smoked pot there. The hallways were stained and not vacuumed and there was a musty smell with the hint of skunk. The first room we had smelled of skunk but the second didnât. One person on front desk on Friday makes getting checked in a long wait and donât think about calling. They very rarely answer and after ten minutes on hold it disconnects. Did I mention there are notes on the ice machines on all floors stating to go to front desk to get ice, so you have to wait for them to check in a guest before theyâll give you ice. When we booked this hotel we were told we were getting a discount for wedding being booked there but people that didnât even have reservations were getting in a two hundred a night and when I was googling this hotel Expedia and other sites had this at $100 per night. The good thing I can say was mattresses were very comfy and I slept well. No free breakfast and there isnât any place close by so if you donât want to have to drive you have to buy sandwich in lobby cafe. I got a ham and cheese croissant for $9 and I got a croissant like bun with sandwich ham and cheddar slice which were cold even after they heated it. They put lettuce and tomato on it so it was more lunch than breakfast. Wish I had found a McDonaldâs instead. For $200 per night they should easily provide a hot and cold breakfast buffet since they have the restaurant facilities to be able to do it. When I checked out, I made it a point to go to front desk to confirm the manager had put some form of compensation on our bill. I was told that they had comped us a nights stay so our bill should have been $203 but it was still at $406. They doubled the room rate to $358 plus fees and tax it end up the same as our original reservation cost. So went back and stood behind 3 people and was told to leave my personal info for the mgr since she couldnât fix it because she had no override code although she agreed that the hotel price was not correct and should have been half. Hereâs where I went to mad. On our way home my husband logs into our bank to see how much weâd spent over the weekend, we see Godfrey charged us $912.66 on our card. More than double the original amount of $406. Took ten calls over an hour and a half to get a person and got the same girl from checkout. She said mgr would call me back between 3-4. Never recd a call but I called next day and told them hem Iâd reverse the charge if not corrected. My charge was corrected to original amount, nothing was comped...

Since its a resort, people tend to have fun.
Unfortunately that meant my next door neighbors were constantly screaming, yelling, singing, talking about Dre, slamming the door, knocking on my door several times instead of their actual door, running down the hallway to another room or perhaps the elevator for two nights up until 3am.
if i can hear some woman go on about Dre next door, either shes loud (which they all were) and\or the walls are thin enough that i could hear her wretched conversation about Dre and rap and whatever nonsense they were on about.
i had enough of it, tried to use the inroom telephone to call the front desk. the phone wasn't connected and powered.
one of the bed side lamps was hanging by its wires.
i didnt think about it until one day it was rainy and windy all day. but i could always hear the highway nearby from my room. turns out the balcony door had a gap that would allow outside air to blow into the room. only noticed it on the windy day because i thought the AC unit was blowing the curtains. the AC wasn't on. it was outside wind blowing into the room.
the balcony door could close, but not all the way to latch it if that matters. but it was the gap between the balcony doors that was allowing outside air to blow in.
last gripe, i'm sure it was on the fine print somewhere when i paid for the room online before arriving in Tampa, but upon arrival i had an extra "nightly resort fee" which is "Bike Rental, Free Parking, Internet Access, Gym Access and two bottles of water"
internet and parking i get. 2 water bottles from the front desk to go for your personal fridge in the room. ok.
bike rental, really? although if i looked into it maybe it wouldve been worth it? although its a tiny island with a highway thoroughfare running through it.
now the Gym Access! that was the saddest part for the nightly resort fee. it had 4 15lb dumbbells, 4 25lb dumbbells, 2 30s, 2 40s. a broken treadmill, 2 broken ellipticals, a pull up bar 'power tower' and a few adjustable benches, which some benches were not adjustable due to missing their adjustment bolts. the ellipticals would very briefly display power on if you were actively using the machine. but not long enough for you to do anything with it.
if it also matters, they only had 1 microwave on the ground floor near reception if you had any food to heat.
Staff. overnight front desk lady was nice and amenable to feedback. i saw her write notes for these above complaints.
i did tell a different front desk lady that the gym's bathroom had no paper towels. never went back to the gym to see if that was remedied though.
my entire 4 day, 3 night stay i never saw housekeeping on my floor. kept my room as tidy as could be. but my trashcans were full when i left.
This was all room 619 for...
Read moreWhat a great gals getaway to Tampa/Clearwater, which included excellent accommodations at The Godfrey. From the start service was outstanding. There did happen to be an issue with the first room we were assigned (toilet tank was leaking), BUT once notified, staff immediately reassigned us. We stayed city view side which was really just fine, we had a beautiful mature palm tree right off of our patio offering shade, and obviously a nice savings per night. Next time, who knows, maybe we'll spring for Ocean view. Though honestly we enjoyed the views quite a bit anyway since we spent plenty of time out back, at the pool and after getting food or coffee at the cafe from Christian, the barista/superstar of service.
This guy is really fantastic. He basically got the cafe in operation and keeps it stocked with a modest yet very satisfactory selection of breakfast/lunch options. The bagels, croissant club sandwiches, berry cheesecake, are all items we tried and really enjoyed. Christian makes excellent mochas and lattes. He has dairy alternatives too! He was part of what made this place feel like somewhere you want to come back with such great personal and personable service of quality products.
The pool is beautiful and as hotel pools go, it's the nicest I've had the pleasure of enjoying. The pool and deck area are kept very clean, the water is the perfect temperature and the view! They have towels for guest convenience and keep them stocked pretty well.
The front desk folks are super. They're helpful, and fast and accommodating. The other guests were all so nice. I suppose this could be happenstance but I have a feeling at least in part that everyone was in a good mood because their stay was so enjoyable. In fact the many people we talked to, it came up at least in brief and we were all enjoying our stays so much, a lot of us joking about never leaving!
There's Ben T Davis Beach within walking distance, right across the water out back. They rent chairs and umbrellas and it's a great spot to chill. Clearwater is just a quick drive and that's amazing too. So the Godfrey is in a perfect location!
Really...
