Holiday Inn Express Winfield - Teays Valley by IHG — Hotel in Teays Valley

Highly recommend this hotel! There were many Pros outweighing the cons.

Pros... Great customer service... Lisa at the front desk was very kind, helpful and provided exemplary service! Very clean. Hand sanitizer available everywhere. Covid procedures best I have seen. Pool and fitness center are open for use on a scheduled basis. We booked a half hour in the am and an hour in the afternoon. Only our party had access during that time and they were sanitizing between guests while we waited briefly for our afternoon time. Rooms been clearly renovated and the bed/bedding incredibly comfortable. Very close to a five star hotel comfort level when it came to nights sleep. Bathroom was fully stocked and shower had large size quality soap, shampoo, conditioner provided. Coffee supplied in room via a Keurig, microwave, and a larger than mini fridge in room. Complimentary breakfast was ready at 6 am and the coffee was great and while everything is packaged I was surprised at the variety of options (muffins, danishes, sausage biscuits, cereal, yogurts, oatmeals all in various flavor options. Fruit cups, milk, juices, coffee, variety of teas..) Pool is heated and saltwater. Very clean.

Cons... Pool towels were barely larger than a hand towel. Could not use for more than a hair wrap. The bathroom in our room had a terrible musty smell. Sink and tub in our bathroom, while new, both did not plug closed. Sink super slow to drain.Toilet seat very loose.

Overall this is one hotel we will absolutely recommend and look forward to...

I stayed in your hotel on 4/18 and was pleased to see you were trying to maintain the standards of IHG with your new construction. The first room I was assigned to had a door that barely latched and every time someone opened and closed a door in the hall the door would bounce and make alot of noise. I went to the front desk and explained the issue to your employee and she graciously moved me to another room, which I greatly appreciated. Hopefully this will be repaired before another guests has the same issue

The most disappointing point of the trip was the amount of mud that other customers carried into your hotel. Keep in mind that it was a nice day. You had customers that must of been on a pipeline or road project that took no effort in to cleaning offf the mud and debris from their boots. I also work in an industrial environment, but if any of my employees ever treated a hotel in this manner I would expect your management to inform me so that I can address this issue. To me this is unacceptable and even though your remodeling these workers left a trail of mud from the lobby to the elevator and all the way to their rooms. I said something to the front clerk and she stated she was trying to have them use the boot cleaner in front of the entrance, but in my opinion it was not working. I would suggest have them pa for the cleaning and you wont have this...

The property is not in very good shape, glad to see some improvements bring made. Room was very clean. Most of the staff was friendly and very helpful, with the exception of the older woman that was running the kitchen on August 7th. I spend a lot of time in several different Holiday Inn Express hotels due to work. On this particular occasion, my wife had come down early to grab a cup of coffee. When she came back up to the room she told me that she had looked in the cupboards for hot chocolate, thinking maybe they had just run out. The lady in the breakfast area had asked what she was looking for. My wife responded hot chocolate. My wife said that she continued to get her bagel and heard the woman call someone on the phone and ask if they were required to put out hot chocolate? That there was a women in the eatery going through the cabinets and proceeded to give the person on the other end of the phone her description. I was appalled. Most of the Holiday Inns I have stayed in were always so accommodating and helpful, and this woman made my wife feel like she was stealing. I think if we ever NEED to stay in this Holiday Inn Express again, we will bring our own...
