I really enjoyed my stay at the Black Swan Inn when I was in town for a wedding in Sanbornton at Longlook Farm. I called a few times in advance and left voicemails asking for early checkin so we could get ready for the wedding, but never received a call back, so I called a secondary number on the day of that's in the voicemail message and then received a call back shortly thereafter and was accommodated, which we greatly appreciated. I struggled to decide between choosing the Belle Peabody Brown Suite or the Arthur Brown Suite, but chose Belle and it was very nice! I loved the stained glass windows and the bed was comfortable. I do think the bedspread and wallpaper could use a refresh as they're showing age. When plugging our phones in by the bed, it was clear that the floors hadn't been cleaned in some time. The AC unit in the room did a great job of cooling us down despite the incredibly hot and humid temperature outside in July, which was great! Breakfast the next morning was delicious: a yogurt parfait, slice of mushroom and green pepper quiche with bacon, coffee, and a slice of apple coffee cake! I was a bit surprised that we had almost no contact with inn keepers, other than a brief word or two at breakfast. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but at other bed and breakfasts we've spent time chatting with the inn keepers and learned a lot about the property and area. We walked the grounds and had coffee on their porch, which was absolutely lovely. I'm sure it would also be gorgeous in the fall and winter! All in all, we enjoyed our stay. In case it doesn't go without saying...only book here if you enjoy staying in an 1800s built home with a quaint bed and breakfast aesthetic! I think the owners could make a huge difference by stripping the chipped/peeling paint and replacing with a fresh new coat, reupholstering the antique couches throughout the house, replacing some bedspreads and carpet to ensure the space is nice clean, but still maintain its...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place. I love NH, previously lived here, and relish the people and feel of the area. So it seemed like a slam dunk when I found this B&B for a recent visit to the area; highly rated, beautiful pictures, great price, and ideally situated in Tilton. But between a poor check in experience where no one showed up until after I texted and called them trying to get in the front door (even though they asked me for my arrival time earlier that day), being abruptly shown around by someone that didn't work there and didn't know much more than I did with no followup interactions/check ins from staff later that day, the stranger hairs that were found in the bedding (no more than 2, but still not what you want to see in a clean bed), and a breakfast made by a sick staff member the next morning that was missing for the first 20 minutes of entering the dining room (no, they weren't in the kitchen because I checked after 5 minutes, and again at 10 and 15 minutes), a lot was left to be desired. The breakfast was very ho-hum: seemingly store-bought croissants as french toast served with high-fructose maple syrup (which stings more when considering the abundance of quality maple syrup the state has), some yogurt and berries in a dish, tiny sausage links that had all the earmarks of a poor frozen quality, coffee, the sharpest/sourest OJ I've had in a long time, and some homemade breakfast pastries that surpassed the french toast's quality by a smidge. B&B's need passion and attention from their owners if they want to be remembered for the right reasons. They help bring warmth and care to customer's visits. There is no denying the house itself and grounds are incredible, hence my score. But the inattentiveness and half-hearted meals I experienced left me agreeing more with the 1 star reviews than the 5. I really hope my experience was an off-day for the inn and that they can deliver a better guest interaction...
Read moreThis review is from Snetkov family. This was our second stay at the Black Swan Inn and both stays were during the Christmas season. We absolutely loved this amazing place last year and decided to come again this Christmas. Long story short, as we were driving from Virginia, a wheel fell off out truck, just 30 min short of getting to Black Swan. When we finally made it, the owners and all the staff were just so amazing, it was Christmas, everything was closed, we did not have a car and everyone made us feel like at home. Trisha, her husband and her son gave us a ride to a car rental, they helped us find a car rental place, they were able to extend our stay for two more days. Just overall, the greatest place and people we have ever met. Their hospitality is above and beyond impressive and we are very grateful. Black Swan Inn is a true gem and so are the people that own it. If ever in Trenton or around, without a doubt, Black Swan...
