I travel a lot and rely on reviews to choose where to stay so after waiting a while to get some resolution I waited to take the time to share my experience.
Disappointing stay despite potential
We stayed here a couple of weeks ago, and while the property itself has potential, the experience was frustrating. I gave the hotel and Hyatt corporate multiple chances to make things right, but unfortunately, it was not handled well.
When I called the hotel, the “manager” Jay put me on hold saying she was going to her computer, but left me there for over 15 minutes and never came back. When I eventually hung up, no one called back. If you don’t want to deal with an issue, just say so—don’t leave someone hanging. During our stay, only one elevator was working for the whole hotel, and it was already very slow. When we checked in, I spilled a little water from a cooler and wiped it up with a towel—only to find the towel turned dark from the filthy floors. I politely brought it downstairs and asked if housekeeping could mop the room the next day. Jay was kind and apologetic at the time and said it would be handled. But no one came.
The next day, my mom followed up and asked them not to worry about it anymore since we were heading out and had the Do Not Disturb sign up. Despite that, someone still entered our room—removing trash, towels, and supposedly mopping. This was uncomfortable and felt like a violation of our privacy, especially with my work materials out. This really is what bothered me. So they ignored the sign to get the floors done since they forgot. Just to say it was done? I didn’t like that.
Later that night, the floors still felt sticky, so we walked around again with a towel and it turned black. That’s just ridiculous.
Other issues: •Breakfast was the same daily, cold eggs, and not appealing. •The couch in the room was stained and felt dirty. •While the hotel claims to be remodeled, it hasn’t been maintained well at all.
I brought all this up at checkout and asked if anything could be done. The response was $50 off. Hyatt corporate told me it was being escalated and to call the hotel again—but when I did, Jay avoided the call as I said in the beginning and just left me on hold. Disappointing. Honestly I was just frustrated so at this point I’m giving up in caring because clearly the customer service is minimal to them. I couldn’t get a copy of my receipt either, their printer was broken. Said it was emailed to me. I still have not gotten on. I stayed beginning of May.
The one positive was the gentleman working nights—he was consistently friendly and welcoming, so that was a nice change. Otherwise, this didn’t feel like the standard Hyatt experience we’re used to. We typically stay at Hyatt for the comfort, cleanliness, and safety. Sadly, this location missed the mark.
This could be a nice hotel just needs some work. Really a bummer but if you’re staying only a couple nights and don’t care about those things it’s a...

I was having a very good experience at the Hyatt Place in Topeka, Kansas during my business trip to the states capital. I even shared a photo on Google during my stay at this hotel, I highlighted the pleasant and comfortable environment. The room was clean, the bed was great, and I felt well taken care of—until I checked out. That’s when everything went drastically wrong. Therefore that review has been replaced with this one, but I’ve left a photo of the delicious breakfast I had yesterday.
I had informed hotel staff in advance that I’d be checking out around 4:00–4:30 a.m. to catch my train. But when I went down to the front desk, no one was there. I waited patiently, then tried calling the hotel while standing right in front of the desk. I could hear the phone ringing—but no one answered. No staff appeared. It’s all on camera. After waiting far too long, I had no choice but to leave my key cards on the counter and walk out to catch my Uber.
From there, the experience only got worse. Hyatt’s customer service phone system is a disaster. I tried multiple numbers—most were either disconnected or just dropped the call. At that point I decided that I wanted to close my account with them.
After many tries, I eventually got through to someone, but I was told I couldn’t even cancel my Hyatt account unless a manager contacted me directly. I wasn’t allowed to speak to one, and when I demanded that I be given a direct number to someone to close my account immediately, I was given an incorrect number 🤯 When I had asked the representative for her name, she refused to give it, went silent, and then disconnected the call.
This entire situation is outrageous!
Hyatt: How is this even possible from a national hotel chain? The lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic support—both at the hotel and corporate levels—is unacceptable. Hyatt has lost my trust, and they’ve lost my business ✌️.
I honestly have no idea what’s happening to customer service these days. Everywhere I turn, it just keeps getting worse, and accountability has completely gone out the window. I don’t like to complain—but at this point, I have to. Speaking up is the only way to even try to get things to change. I’m sorry, but it’s alarming 🚨.
It seems like there’s no middle ground anymore: it’s either horrible service or great service—nothing in between. And sadly, the bigger the company, the worse the service tends to be. The smaller the business, the better the care. It’s a pattern that’s hard to ignore and even harder to accept.
Google Reviews gives customers an outlet to voice these frustrations. Without it, no one would know about the unfortunate and unacceptable behavior—and the ongoing disrespect shown to people who pay for a service and are routinely disregarded and failed. Sharing these experiences is not about complaining for the sake of it—it’s about trying to hold businesses accountable and push for better treatment.
It’s an absolute disgrace that this kind of behavior is tolerated by...
Read moreI have traveled extensively for years, staying at some of the most luxurious hotels in the world—such as The Peninsula in Hong Kong, The Westin in Manila, and the Shangri-La in China—yet I was genuinely surprised to find such an exceptional hotel in the heart of Topeka, Kansas, at such an unbelievable rate. For this gem, I only paid $116, which makes the experience even more remarkable.||Let’s start with the check-in: I was welcomed by a lovely lady named Rica, whose warm smile and efficiency instantly brightened my day. The process was quick and seamless.||Upon entering the room, I was impressed by the elegant yet comfortable décor. The layout was perfect, with a bar area completely separate from a cozy living room featuring a very comfortable sofa and a well-equipped nightstand. The bathroom was fully stocked with more towels than I could count—something I truly loved. There was also a closet with an iron, ironing board, and extra pillows. The vanity area had an ample supply of hotel soaps and lotions, and the shower featured shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. (I would love to know the brand because my hair and skin felt hydrated and smelled amazing afterwards!)||Now, the most important part: the bed. I had not slept in such a comfortable bed in years. I even took photos of the mattress and pillow brands, only to discover that each pillow costs over $200. I told my husband, “I don’t care, we’re buying them!” and he completely agreed. The room smelled wonderfully clean, which to me is a sign of true care in housekeeping. Everything was spotless, and there was a peaceful, harmonious atmosphere throughout.||Breakfast was delicious, and I would easily rate this hotel a 9.8 out of 10. The only small reason I don’t give it a perfect score is because of the lady managing breakfast that morning. She seemed to be having a bad day and spoke to guests in a less-than-friendly tone, which felt out of place in such a magical hotel.||Finally, during checkout, I wish I could remember the name of the very kind gentleman who assisted me. I don’t know your name, but I do remember your rainbow earring—thank you for your patience, time, and professionalism.||I truly hope all Hyatt hotels offer the same outstanding service as this one in Topeka, Kansas. This was an exceptional stay, and I will...
