Breezeway Motel — Hotel in Topsail Beach

I called to see if by chance they had a room available for Sunday night because I assumed they would be booked up for sat night. The front desk person told me they required at least two nights so I then asked if they had sat night as well... She DID!!! My parents and I were just looking for a relaxing weekend, not to have to deal with the crowds on Memorial Day weekend. We checked in sat afternoon and the person at the front desk was very nice, she even makes jewelry that they sell there (its very cute!!!) we have a Large Dog and he was welcome to. The room was Clean, it was not immaculate but for a beach hotel it was better than a lot I have seen. We had the room right next to the front office and expected a little more foot traffic past our room due to this but did not have much of a problem. The hotel was on the sound so you had to walk across to the beach, not far at all and dogs again are allowed on this beach. The water is clear and has sand bars so you can wade out fairly far before being up to your neck in water. We also ate at their Restaurant; the food was decent, a little expensive for what you get... I am on a diet so I asked for a salad at $7 and a 1/2 of peel and eat shrimp. The shrimp was good but the salad was basically lettuce, that they could work on and the service was Special that night, but the waitress was new you could tell so I think later in the season that will be fixed. For the price, on a Labor Day weekend, with easy beach access, and dog friendly, this hotel would be hard to beat. Located on the bayside (intercoastal waterway) it had a lovely pier where you can watch spectacular sunsets and several nearby restaurants to walk to and enjoy. I want to rate this hotel higher but because of the very old condition of the furnishings I can't. Most everything worked but it could really use a makeover. It is clean and functional with a flat screen TV and comfortable mattresses. There is plenty of parking, even for those folks with boats. The building is solid so the nights were quiet even with a lot of people on the balconies. I can say that the location and staff was great. Staff was super accommodating with an early check-in and allowed a late check-out for a small fee so that we could enjoy the beach for an extra day. Stayed here last year as part of a family group. Had a blast and wasn't met With any hostility anywhere. Most stress free relaxing time I've had in ages. Jackie and his wife were very comforting. This year the family had set plans for a fun filled 4 day weekend, bringing in lots of people to the motel for our annual family and friends cornhole get together. Was told that under the new management, that would not be allowed and had a few harsh words with a family member. Most reservations for that weekend weren't specified they were there for that reason, but I'm sure with the surge of cancelations u can tell otherwise. Lack of communication and poor management was the deciding factor here, so maybe start working on that and things will be better. The motel and location AND the restaurant are all amazing..... but I would consider pulling a resume' and figuring out why a simple family get together cost your motel thousands in a...
